Will we be hearing whalesong while exploring Rapture?
Is there whalesong on the soundtrack?

There was a (giant) squid in the video, so who knows ? Maybe we'll get to enjoy a whale vs squid match at some point, hehe. And a captain Nemo cameo would be sweet too :P

Anything - the more resources they throw at the environment, the better. We don't know where Rapture is, correct? We can guess at the depth because there are still schooling fish and sea plants, so we're probably less than 600 feet deep. A fishing line with bait? A freediver? Mr. Limpet?

In the middle of the north Atlantic, a lighthouse juts out of the water. Inside waits a rusted bathysphere, which takes you deep under the ocean to Rapture, a city sprawling along the sea floor.
that's all we know i guess...
there are just a few things I care less about
but it would be a nifty gimmick :D

North Atlantic, thanks! Depending on the depth, a foraging walrus would be awesome.

I read somewhere about "musique concrete" being used as a composition technique in the game. That means music made of organizing natural sounds to make a "tapestry" of ambient noise. Considering the game takes place underwater, Whale noise (along with other natural undersea environmental noise) seems very likely to me.

Seriously? If Rapture isn't too deep, you may expect to find a walrus rooting through the sediment for whatever bivalves/invertebrates it could find. Look up the feeding habits of the Atlantic Walrus.

Hopefully we'll get to combat/flee from various sea life.
One of the scariest/creepiest parts in HL1 was when you first got the crossbow.
Loud bass heavy whale rumbles along with the rest of the ambient noise would really increase the "What was that? Oh god, I just want to go home!" feel...
(...and maybe a hidden easter egg area with a Big Daddy and a whale talking or trying to)

I wonder if we'll discover some kind of populated reef
And what's really inside those Big Daddy suits? ;)

...but would you really have anything left to fear in Rapture aftering seeing Dagon right outside the window?
What about WW2 or luxury liner wreckage? Possibly with signs of salvaging by Rapturians?

I was thinking a team of rabbits operating a system of leavers and cranks.

Now that would be ironic, seeing Great Cthulhu in Rapture's waters, but never catching even a glimpse of him in the GAME WITH HIS NAME ON IT! :p

Whalesone in Rapture would sound awesome, definitely add to the creepiness and ambience. But it would be completely unrealistic since whales breath oxygen and stay near the surface. It would be impossible for a whale to go anywhere near Rapture which is deep under the ocean.

According to Wikiepedia anyway the Sperm Whale is the "Deepest diving mammal (found at depths of 2,200 meters (7,200 feet) and can hold its breath for up to 2 hours."
I have no clue if they sing like Humpbacks (and couldn't find out deep Humpbacks can dive). I think Orcas can/do sing too but aren't they mainly in the Pacific? (And Orcas rock.)
The oceans' have all sorts of neat critters in them in all levels it seems. Maybe we could see some bio-luminescent deep sea rarities from the domes of Rapture? (I don't know if they'd sing/make nose though)

I have two minds of thought on the sea life that can be seen outside the city of Rapture windows.
First mind of thought- The human activity drove away many of the big deep sea creatures (Giant Squids and Sperm Whales among others) and kept them away for years. Despite the fact that several months have passed since the war that tore Rapture, and ended most human activity, the big deep sea creatures remain wary of Rapture and its surrounding location. That being said schools of fish are attracted to Rapture because the artificial lighting provides an outlet where plankton and plants can thrive (which explains why so many fish are seen outside Raptures windows)
Second mind of thought- The human activity drove away many of the big deep sea creatures, and kept them away for years. However once the majority of human activity ceased after the war the big deep sea creatures became less wary of Rapture and the surrounding location. The big sea creatures were further drawn to the location by the schools of fish that were drawn to Rapture, which feed on the plankton and plants that thrive around the artificial lighting of the city (meaning what had once been a dead zone for big deep sea creatures, became a zone of high concentration for them).
Either way I love the idea of being able hear a whales haunting cry echo through the halls of Rapture, Look up through a glass ceiling and see a Sperm Whale gently past by, or turn a corner and come face to face with the plate sized green eye of a Giant Squid before it jets off into misty of the deep ocean. These touches would add stunning moments to BioShock and further add to the intoxicating atmosphere of Rapture.
