Hi,
is there someone who know if BioShock 2 will use the same game engine of the first episode?

Is there a remote possibility that Bioshock 2 will run on the same Bioshock hardware?

I don't think anyone knows anything at this point it is pretty early on, of course if 2k wants to share some information I wouldn't mind :D

Hardware? 360, PS3, PC. Duh it will.
Too bad you gotta type here to answer something within a quote.

Ya, I know how to do that, but on the previous forum I used, I could type inside the quote and put it, without typing after it. And I don't like ripping apart a perfectly good quote unless required.

I, as well as others, speculate that the updated version of Unreal Engine 3 will be used. You can see it if you look for a video showing it off at GDC 08. It looks awsome, my favorite part is the jiggly meat cube. Looks delicious!

Dude, I've played 15 year old games with graphics of their time, but with sequences where it goes into mega high def that pwns. Just because a trailer shows something, doesn't suggest it's the graphics of the whole game.

It doesn't suggest anything of the engine.

And also, examples are in the early Final Fantasy's, Chrono Cross, the list goes on forever.

I don't get it. The video I'm talking about is neither a trailer or any other type of CG video. It's a demo of what can be done with the U3 engine... in game.

"It" what? Sounded like you actually meant the teaser, as it makes the most sense.

ah yes! the meat cube thats been used for gears of war 2.
they upgraded the unreal engine 3 already, but i hope they
upgrade the engine for something useful like more splicer skins?
or realistic water flow?

The water is one of the biggest updates that they did to UE3. Gears of War 2 as a whole looks awsome and the water effects are the best I've ever seen. The big bonus for BioShock fans is that the update to the water effects will play a much larger role in BioShock 2 than it did in GoW2 becuase of the games setting. I'm so stoked just talking about it! :D

I have a Core2Duo T7200 2ghz with a GeForce 8600M GT 256Mb, 4GB ram...

I played Bioshock with all detail on at 1280x800...
I want to play Bioshock2 but I don't want to rebay a new computer only for playing bioshock... :( I hope that Bioshock2 can run decently on my hardware :(

Its 100% the unreal engine (be it an updated version) because 2K Marin are advertising for people who have unreal engineer experience

Bioshock 2 will run on your machine, no company would make the game so advanced its impossible to run on all but the highest machine's

oh hang on - i forgot about crysis

most likely Bioshock 2 will use the latest version of the Unreal Engine: UE3.
The Unreal Engine 4 is still currently under production at Epic games.

what about the physX real time physics? will they be incorporating that to? I know that they will be using it in the game Bordelands, and they are both to be released about the same time. Borderlands is going to rock too.

bioshock II would definitly benefit hugely from using the modified UE3 from gears 2.

the water and "soft body" effects are amazing

* BioShock 1 and 2 not based on Unreal Engine 3. those are uses the Vengeance engine 2. which is the heavily modified Unreal Engine 2.5
o originally, based on Tribes Vengeance engine(enhanced version of UE2.5) and reworking it to be next-gen capable.
o Unreal Engine 3 license
o some tech steal from Unreal Engine 3. but it's a reference. expect to write everything themselves(BioShock programming team).
o 2K Marin team. conversion to PlayStation 3 and BioShock 1 engine uses and some enhancedments to BioShock 2.
* BioShock 3 uses UE3.
o 2K Boston/Australia working on the BioShock 3 engine powered by Unreal Engine 3.

I think Bioshock looked great and we don't really need more polygons and pixels to slow things up. Time we got over our fetish with high graphics and concentrated on gameplay.

Definitely gonna get for 360, as I have horrible, horrible luck with computers, even if I view them as superior for FPS's. In terms of graphics, there doesn't have to be too much done to it, just some minor updating that would be expected.

Why do you think it will slow anything down?
Just look at Gears of War 1 & 2, the latter has 200% of content of the first on screen at pretty much all the time, without compromising geometry of anything, with better textures, lightning, softbodies and gigantic levels.
ofc it doesn't nessesarily mean that 2k Marin will be as good at optimising the engine as guys from EPIC, but if they only achieve half of that - it will be AMAZING.

But the feature I'm looking forward most to is dynamic water surface, a feature of UE3,5 [as they call it]. I would love to see some fully or half underwater levels.

I'd love to see some of that delicious Ambient Occlusion, too. It's always been a fascination of mine.
Of course, they'd either have to get their guys to add that stuff in, or pay Epic some more money for the latest version.
