First of all i would like to introduce my self i'm morteg15 and i came to this site to hopefully get some help on creating this Big Daddy doll
First I have to figure out whats what i got mostly everything but im still puzzled to what some parts are. like 1, 2 and 3
Part 1? looks like a tube of chap stick
Part 2? the torso i cant figure out what it is but i do see that the torso is covered in rubber bands that holds part 1?
Part 3? is the hand which i dont know what it is probably just a cork
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/michael20065/BigDaddyDoll.jpg
That's what i got so far can you guys help me on figuring out what some of these parts are so i can start making it?
-Thanks

Well in about a week I am going to buy stuff to start making the Little Daddy from the Teaser.
http://www.ryansrapture.com/Bioscreens/lidad.jpg
I was wondering if anyone has thoughts as to what would be good materials to use.
My thoughts:
The fabric-pretty easy one
Is that a Softball or Baseball?
Bolts
Wire, I was thinking like bailing wire.
Insides I was thinking stuffing from a bean bag chair.
A Thimble
A Corkscrew
Some Rope
and what is is backpack made of?

Backpack looks like a soda can or a tennisball can with a nail driven into a bunny rabbit bottle-cap. The legs look like the legs of a Raggedy-Ann doll.

Ya, wow, I'm checking the site it's hosting on and can't even find a link to that...unless I missed it somewhere, but that's some high-def stuff there :D
Anyway, there's a bunny bottlecap on top of the tankpiece, which you could assume is a can of some kind, probably soda. I don't know what's holding the cap on, though :/ I'd say a Baseball for head, the eyes look sorta like those things you put in turkeys that pop up when done, but I don't think it'd be that.

Okay. This sounds fun!
So you're going to need:
Rubber bands (It it completely held together by them, check the pic)
Thumbtacks*
Nails (Cut short)*
Red sharpie (for on the top of the nails)
Film Canister (from disposable cameras, etc. For the backpack)
Baseball (Softball is too big and neon yellow)
Tassels (For the arms, I'm thinking like on those curtain-tyer-backers)
Thimble (For the base of the drill)**
Wire (thick enough to not break, but able to be curled. For the drill)**
Raggidy Ann Doll Legs (from earlier post, this is exactly what you need)
Bottle cap (For on top of canister)
Black String (To make a fake sling for the canister/backpack)
More wire (for face; needs to be a little thinner)
Here's where I'm stuck. The body looks like a pear. Good luck fashioning somthing that shape. Oh, and whatever to decide to make it out of, make sure to put holes for the legs to go into :)
*Looks like these are going to need to be Krazy Glued together :)
**Have no idea how you are going to attach these together. (Welding??)

Too bad it's rigged from normal things, or selling real ones as a BioShock 2 ad campaign would work. I don't think people would buy a doll made from spare things, especially with a dangerous cork screw...

2. A different doll's body. It matches the legs.
Edit: It's also taped to the film at 1.
3. It's probably the arm & hand from the same doll.

I would make one myself but I would never be able to find the materials to make him in the country I'm in. So I'm here to help!
It’s a BASEBALL.
You don’t need bolts for anything I can see in it.
As suggested before, a FILM CANISTER should work well as a backpack. A soda can or tennis ball can is way too big for this doll.
There is a NAIL going through the bunny bottle cap into the film canister.
The ROPE looks like a soft cotton. Not tweed, nylon or whatever else. It’s a decorative rope like you might find on old furniture or curtains.
The eyes are made of THUMBTACK/PUSHPIN things. Just the regular size, not the oversized ones. Use a cheapo paint set form a craft store to paint the eyes red. If you try to cut nails and color them with a red sharpie it will not look like the BD doll.
RUBBERBANDS, looks like red ones. Also you can see a black or blue band of some sort going over the BD’s shoulders.
THIMBLE for base of drill.
CORKSCREW should be easy enough to punch through the bottom of the thimble. Just make sure you leave enough of the dismantled corkscrew to hold it from falling out of the thimble.
RAGGEDY ANN DOLL LEGS are a must. I think you will also use RA dolls torso.
You can PM me if you get stuck or can't figure something out. I'm very happy to help. Let's see some pics when you are done!

hmmm...now that I got the trailer on my PC in HD, I can check it out...
Looking closely at the body, my guess is that its stuffed fabric (I'm starting to wonder how everything is attached, especially the baseball). The other hand is kind of a mystery since the person holding it is covering it up. My guess is that the hand is either a bead of some sort or the rope it just knotted off. Now then, about the mysterious cylinder on its back. Looking closely at it, I don't think its a film canister, because the top doesn't really look like that of a film canister...though I can't really say for now.
Anyway, good luck with making the doll!

Well, they have acid, but only fire really can set them off. I'm giving a size, it may be chap-stick, or something like that. Unfortunately, the sunset makes it black, so we may never know.
Edit. I should've thought! It's on the beach, duh! The body seems to be a rock! I think it's cut in half and hollow, maybe stuffed w/ cotton. You can see a line on the body, in the middle, between the arm & head. Check the pic.
Still can't figure out the tube, but it is made of metal. There is also a strip running across half of the top.
Here's a pic you can get a close up on. The rock is obvious from there.

Well it has the same texture, color, and size of an average beach rock found a few inches under the sand. If you had a wet-sew, or that cork opener maybe, you could cut into it, and attach the arms by glueing or knotting.
I've roughly painted a few important spots.
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc228/Hypa_01/BigDaddyDoll.jpg
At A, there is a safety pin, if you want to put it it in.
At B, There is some sort of black strap, maybe to hold the arms in? Because it' knotted there.
At C, the normal arm is sort of shown,ad appears circular at the top. It may be one of those hanging things from graduation hats.
I've also outlined some lines on the black tube, and circled a divet on the body, which makes me conclude it's a rock.

The picture certainly makes it look more like silver thumbtacks than nails, the back pack looks like it has a bottle cap on the top with a face, just I am not a 100% sure what the pack is Argghhh..
I also now see the paperclip in the front which I never noticed.

Can anyone tell what it's body is made out of? Is it a rock? or is it some type of vegetable? idk, for some reason it looks like some type of vegetable to me :P
Also for the backback I would say a film container with a bunny rabbit bottlecap nailed ontop but if it was a film container I don't know why it would have a silver ring arround the top...?

The body appears (to me anyway) to be the torso of the Raggedy Ann. On most old rag dolls, the torso was just a "pillow" of plain material (no patterns or colors). So if you have one, just rip the arms off (morbid, I know), and thread your tasseled rope through the body. It'll save yourself the hassle of either sewing/glueing them on.

It also looks like the type of nails that have a two staged head. Also, if you used nails I bet they would stay in the baseball a lot more. The trouble is that I have been unable to find a pic of these types of nails online.

To me it is VERY creepy. Think about it, a doll (Raggedy Ann) that is supposed to bring comfort and joy to a child, was torn apart and assembled back together to create something that is evil. The Little Sister created something she THOUGHT was her comfort and joy.

How could you call a BD evil? They are just as cute and cudly as a whale and a powerdrill put together! :D
Those are the feet of the BD doll. Not sure if the body is the right shape, but with a needle, thread, scissors and a little imagination, it can be molded into the right shape. :)

but i do agree that it might be strange for a young girl to be comforted by something so grotesque. creepys a good word to describe it.

I can definitely see it as being an actual plastic doll body, what with the Raggedy Ann reference. It's just really worn, dirty, etc.
Hey all, I too am looking to make one of these fine dollies.
I think Relight has the answer for the body- a plastic baby doll body.
The shape is right, the indentations near the legs, it looks like the cord arms are emerging from holes, and there's even a plastic seam up on the shoulder. Yep, plastic baby doll body, definitely.
Now to figure out what that back-pack is made of. Hmmmm:confused:

Does anyone recognize the rabbit logo on the bottle cap (The one nailed to the "tank on BD's back)? Did this appear somewhere in the game?
Asherah
10-28-2008, 07:36 PM
Nah, it's nothing from the game. It's probably just a random design or it could be from some drink from that time period (60s-70s I suppose).
How will the head stay attached to the body?
But I think I agree, definatly a plastic body with the stuff pulled through. Just makes more sense I guess. It would make it more sturdy.
How will the head stay attached to the body?
I haven't figured that out yet. There's no real indication in the screen cap, so I think I'm gonna go with whatever works structurally. Maybe a fabric tab or a bit of rope screwed into the baseball, and attached somehow to the plastic body.

I just had to quote this...because who would have considered looking up Raggedy Ann dolls for the legs. It could have been anything, but those fit perfectly. Wow, just had to say.
The doll seems so unsafe, the more we add to the material list.
yeah, a little dangerous. Not a dolly you cuddle with, especially with the corkscrew hanging out there. I suppose you could file down the corkscrew point or put a round nodule of epoxy on the end, and secure the mask wires real good. Then Little Daddy is not so dangerous! :)

Another idea for the head...
Take a small picture frame hook (one with a threaded end ((like a screw))opposite the hook, itself). Screw it into the baseball. Then, take a rubber band (preferably a small diameter but wider than a normal one), slip it over the hook, stretch the rubber band through one leg of the body, then back through the other, and slip the other end of the rubber band on the hook, as well. The tension should keep the "head" in place.
That's a great suggestion Dirge! I may just do that. Thank you

It's an image from the PS3 theme fankit. Interestingly while it is called "coffee" in game it is clearly some kind of soda.

I never saw that ingame, any exact info?

I think I found it in a rubbish can in Hephaestus. It was definitely somewhere in Hephaestus. I actually saw it just a couple days ago since I am in the middle of a survivor mode run so I am sure about the Hephaestus part.

Hmm, I hope I still have a save there, I haven't gotten to play in a long time, but I hope to check it. I just hope I don't get surprised by a splicer. I hate when I'm busy and they come out of nowhere.

Hahaha, yeah they're known for that. Be careful.
I think I may go explore Rapture later myself
Well, the person who designed the doll (Shaun Absher @ Blur) has confirmed some parts on devianart-
"Baseball (head), Pushpins (eyes/portholes), Paperclips (wire guard), Rubber band (ropie parts?), Paperclip(on the chest), Nail (some kinda pipe), Pop cap (valve thingie), Film Canister (tank on back), Rope (arms) Bead-thimble-corkscrew ('right' hand)."
And added-
"There is blue string around the neck that the girl is holding. The torso is indeed a plastic baby doll body. The non-drill hand is a kind of burlap stuffed with cotton.
The tank in the back has a nail pushed into it with a bottle cap on the back. No valves.
Oh and don't forget that the red on the thumbtacks is nail polish."
Ok then, now to get all this stuff ;-)

Good show, thanks Beal! This would be a fun project, i think the only tough thing is getting an appropriate baby doll.

Yeah... try your local thrift store?

Thanks Kyburz. It should be a fun build-up, and amassing the stuff will be a challenge (to get the right look and feel)

Yeah Relight, that's the plan- also for the thimble, raggedy ann parts and rusty ol' paper clips and corkscrew.
Come to think of it, I should probably pick up a tetanus shot too while I'm at it ;-)

Haha. That's a cute little thing. I've never seen it before though. I still haven't finished my BD doll. Haven't had time to work on it. I'm also missing a few components.

I could be wrong but i beg to differ, i think it's a doll cos it's too small for a Little Sister...

I've watched the doll for a while and I was wrong. If you look close to the head of the doll you see small dots. It's the places where the hair was connected to the head when it was a babydoll. Sorry for my bad English

No problem... ;) yes, i hadn't noticed the "Hair-Holes" in the dolls head, i couldn't see past the very small fish bowl covering the head... not seen one that small before, obviously for very small fish.

I'm still trying to get certain components I need for it. I have most, though. As soon as I get some money I'm gonna buy the rest of the things I need. I'll post it when I'm done. :)

I made an exact replica of the big daddy doll. I used a baseball for the head, put thumbtacks in it for the eyes, used wire from a spiral notebook to make teh mask wiring. for the body, i used a perfect sized tube, and put corks in each hole to cover the inside. but before i seale the bottom of the tube, I put a nail through the bottom of teh cork into the baseball so it will stay on. then, I sealed the bottom. for the arms, I used doll arms, and for the drill i cut of the hand and put a cork on the hole, which I sealed. Then I put the rest of the spiral notebook wiring curved for the actual drill. then, i used doll legs which I nailed onto the cork for legs. The legs were raggady Ann style. All in all, it looks pretty similar. Oh yeah, for teh container on the back, I used a lego container that looks accuratly sized.

-Thanks
Awesome!
My friend and I started working on a figure about a week or two after the trailer came out. It's taking a while but we have all the parts.
We just took an old stuffed dog doll from a good will store (looked almost exactly like the one in the trialer), got a small basebal glove averaged out to about the size the hand would be on the figure, cut out the extra piece of fabric between the thumb and forefinger, got tiny dr. pepper fake soda can, spray painted it brown, took a nail, stuck in through a bottle cap and the fake soda can...
We then took a corckscrew that my friend's mom said was too rusted over to use properly so we used that to get gorilla glued and stiched to the other arm of the doll, took the baseball, but some fake red jewlery pieces from my sister's "Jewlery box" and glued them to the face, took some copper wiring from my grandfather's jewlery bench and wrapped it around the baseball. That patch on the stomach we didn't focus much on, we thought it was un needed.
We're still trying to get the corkscrew to stay but it won't cooperate and the baseball is making us mad too because that won't stay on either. As for the arms, I didn't even notice there was rope there until about saturday when I watched the trailer again so we'll be cutting the arms off and trying some new things with the arms.
But yeah, hope you have better luck with yours than we did with ours. Just don't use so much tape and glue, we got a little carried away with that lol.

Hi, I posted my finished doll on another thread but I wanted to let you know I had similar problems glueing the corkscrew to the thimble and ended up using JB Weld to keep it together. As for keeping the head on, I had to run a thread from the head thru the body to keep in in place and that ended up being way easier than glue (I tried epoxy 3 times and gave up). Good Luck! I had a lot of fun making mine and I hope to see a bunch more up soon :)

It's great and i used it for reference in making my own dolly. It was really hard sanding the bulsa wood down into oval shape, and i wouldn't call what i end up with an oval :p
Using a block of wood for the body is difficult in working it into a shape, but better in the long run. Trust me, i cut myself trying to widdle it numerous times. finally i gave up and went to sanding.
I'm a perfectionist and my lil daddy is no where near perfect :o
All i need now is the drill and glueing it all together and i'll post pics!
Good luck to everyone
