The PSN store launched a new line of "Premium Themes" today that have a lot of extra content above and beyond normal themes. Bioshock has a new special theme that is amongst the first of these premium themes.

It has some awesome cartoon images of Ryan, Atlas, and Cohen for your main icons (Atlas is the icon for "friends", ha!) and some really kickass sounds.

It is only 99 cents, so buy, buy, buy!

Oh, and Bioshock had a trailer go up on the PSN store today too, for PSN junkies.

Also: Are there multiple wallpapers in the premium Bioshock theme? And what other trailers were added? Were the Tokyo Game Show '08 trailer(s) for Resident Evil 5 put up?

The TV is currently in use, grrr.

Why do people pay for THEMES? Like paying for desktop images from Google, I don't get it?

In either case, I lost my credit card and had to cancel it and am still waiting for mine in the mail.

Not that I'd pay for a theme, but still...

This is great news! I just wish the theme was free. Nevermind.

You're going to have to give me a damn good reason to pay for something that:

A: I could easily make myself including all the bells and whistles

or

B: Won't be leaked onto the internet in a matter of days, or maybe even hours.

I think Sony made a mistake here, unless there's some revolutionary new trick that Premium Themes can do that basic ones cannot.

Hmm, I have that wallpaper on my PS3 right now (it's on the Cult of Rapture website, no?)

Nope, no sign of the Resi 5 trailers sadly. Although there were some new "Lil Biggie" videos, a SOCOM video, Motorstorm 2, Endwar and a few others of little consequence like for an NBA game.

But the Premium theme does include multiple wallpapers! I have seen three or four unique ones so far. The sounds are the coolest thing, they have to be heard to be appreciated I think.

Indeed, the wallpapers are great, but the one that has the BioShock logo on it has the last bit of it cut off, anyone else have this problem.

You have your TV set to 720p. If your TV supports 1080p, switch to 1080p and all of the wallpapers will have more space to their layout. I know this because yes, I did go ahead and buy the theme. It's ironic that to see Bioshock at its best you should switch to 720p, and yet this clips the logo in the wallpaper with the Big Daddy holding the Splicer.

All in all, it's worth a buck and I have no regrets. Two of the four wallpapers are especially amazing (the green one with the Little Sister and the Big Daddy looking down at you, and the one with the Little Sister crying over the dead Big Daddy). The other two are good as well (the aforementioned gold one with the Splicer, and another one with the Big Daddy's hand reaching out for the Little Sister's hand). They're all of vastly higher quality than the three wallpapers in the free theme, and the dozen or so in the downloadable fankit at the Cult of Rapture website. The icons of key characters (some of which I don't quite recognize, having not played the game) are cool as well.

I'm currently addicted to Warhawk, and now everytime I boot up the demo I'm greeted by a random Bioshock image. Love it!

I turned off the sound effects, though. Too much noise when I'm speeding through the options! :)

I've always had it to 1080p, but its just a little out of the way, not the letters just the surrounding thing.

i'm glad you like the theme! i went through almost our entire sound library trying to pick the best Rapture sounds that wouldn't be too grating (but i agree, sometimes changing default sounds is difficult regardless.) when you scroll through the menus really fast the water drip sounds really good, but of course, i'm biased.

Just downloaded it from the PSN and I'm in the UK.

This is a really awesome theme, the background is really crisp and the icons look superb, I don't mind the sound for the moment but I'm sure that I'll have it turned off come tomorrow ;)

Picked it up for 79p and almost instantly headed into the settings to turn the tones off. The plinks along and down are okay as is the back tone, but the confirm tone; woah perceived volume or what? Almost made me not want to select anything to have that jarring sound hit me. I mean sure thematically it's correct, but when I think about the stylish piano notes used during the opening menu all I can think is "What a shame they didn't use those".

i'm not too savvy about how to customize the customized themes, but i do believe you can both adjust sound volume and lightness/darkness of backgrounds once you get it on your machine.

and the plinks are water droplets. :-)

I for one love your plinks Liz. :D The sounds are totally the best part of the theme.

All you'd have to do is run an Amplify filter on the sound effects to tone them down in volume in basically any audio editing program. I currently have a recently-made theme I have to go back and do that to because the sounds are a touch too loud.

You can change the volume for music, you can change the volume for video, the options to change the volume for key tones is on or off. Hmm anyone would think being able to add sound to themes was a last minute decision by Sony :p

Oh and yes you're right that you can change the brightness of the background and for pictures I normally set it to about -1 or -2.

As I said I don't mind the plinks ;) or even the cancel, just that jarring Genebank confirm.

it was difficult for me to choose sounds for the theme. i wanted them all to be iconic rapture sounds, somehow convey the feeling of what the sound represented in the theme itself, and yet not be horridly annoying. the last part is the most difficult to nail, as it's so subjective. i wish i could have made several sets of sounds, like wallpapers!

I hope you're not taking my remarks as a negative "you suck, this sucks, I want my money back" :) If the sounds were annoying I'd say they were annoying, if they were irritating I'd say they were irritating, the one tone is jarring to me and I found it jarring in-game so no difference there. I think I'd have the same attitude towards the water drops too if they had the same length as the genebank tone, it's the high pitch, but as they're shorter they're merely blips.

As to iconic sounds as I implied the piano tones on the main menu set the entire scene for me - stylish, tasteful, subdued.

Oh and just to prove I'm not wholly nasty I thought both the icons and wallpapers were very fine... dammit okay I thought some of the postcard scenes would have been a nice inclusion, but hey like everything else that's just personal taste.
