I hear (from the PCG UK Review) there's a part in the game that Cohen plays a piano with a bomb wrapped around it. He turns the music up and stone statues in dancing circus positions "awaken". The ballerinas in rabbit masks dance to your position, forcing you to fight them as they pirouette alongside you. What's disturbing about it is that you find out that as you're battling, you're actually performing ballet with them, you're just a dancing puppet. Seriously, what the ****. This game may be the scariest game I've ever played.
That sounds jaw-droppingly unforgettable. Any parts from articles you've read thus far that sound intriguing to play through? Wrap in the new spoilers option, please. ;)

The moment that actually made me go "Huh?" was the description of the "puppeteer". Apparntly, at a certain point, you'll be fighting on a stage and it appears that you move like a puppet. I don't know the exact wording, but it appeared to me to be ... wicked. :)

I haven't heard of the puppet thing (in the first post i believe) before and now I'm even more excited that sounds morbid and masterminding, like Hannibal Lecter, intelligently evil!

In the gamespot stage demo I saw the player convince two big daddies to start attacking each other (one hit the other with one of those rockets/proxmines/whatever)
That is my new goal :)

One of the things I'm most eagerly anticipating, although not strictly from the previews, is a song that was mentioned in one of the podcasts. I think it's called "Rise, Rapture, Rise" and it's like an anthem to the city and the philosophy. I can't wait to hear it, because I just have a feeling it'll encompass everything intellectual and chillingly brutal in Rapture.

Sounds eloquently disturbing, if there is such a thing. I'd imagine the dance is either heavily scripted, designed to shunt the player through the motions in order to hit the marks on the floor, thus triggering further progression in the opera. OR It immediately becomes a disjointed experience of limbs flailing and the player struggling to get free of the crowd and to a flanking position.
I vote for the former. Sequences like that end up being more memorable if treated with kid gloves :)
BTW what do you mean by "scariest" in this sense? Scary because your being puppeteered by those you wish to overcome, or scary because of the combination of innocent art w/ violent death?

Ha! I'm with you there! It worked in Resident Evil 4 because you wanted to be able to locate the scarce ammo in a boss fight or whatever, but for me Object Shine is a no-no for this kind of game.

User Commands wc(1)
NAME
wc - display a count of lines, words and characters in a
file
SYNOPSIS
wc [-c | -m | -C] [-lw] [_f_i_l_e...]
DESCRIPTION
The wc utility reads one or more input files and, by
default, writes the number of newline characters, words and
bytes contained in each input file to the standard output.
The utility also writes a total count for all named files,
if more than one input file is specified.
wc considers a _w_o_r_d to be a non-zero-length string of char-
acters delimited by white space (for example, SPACE, TAB ).
See iswspace(3C) or isspace(3C).
OPTIONS
The following options are supported:
-c Count bytes.
-m Count characters.
-C Same as -m.
-l Count lines.
-w Count words delimited by white space characters or new
line characters. Delimiting characters are Extended
Unix Code (EUC) characters from any code set defined
by iswspace().
If no option is specified the default is -lwc (count lines,
words, and bytes.)
OPERANDS
The following operand is supported:
_f_i_l_e A path name of an input file. If no _f_i_l_e operands are
specified, the standard input will be used.
USAGE
See largefile(5) for the description of the behavior of wc
when encountering files greater than or equal to 2 Gbyte ( 2
**31 bytes).
ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES
See environ(5) for descriptions of the following environment
variables that affect the execution of wc: LC_CTYPE,
SunOS 5.9 Last change: 20 Dec 1996 1
User Commands wc(1)
LC_MESSAGES, and NLSPATH.
EXIT STATUS
The following exit values are returned:
0 Successful completion.

Scary as in that everything in the game seems like an opera, how everything is placed in the game (watch Hunting the Big Daddy, look for the doctor throwing grenades from the balcony, a huge shadow looming over the wall behind him from the spotlight, the placement of the character and light looks like it comes straight out of a melodramatic play). So yes, I'd say it's frightening "because your being puppeteered by those you wish to overcome".

The Cohen part will be especially freaky with the lighting effects that have been mentioned.
Not only will you be participating in his plan, but the game will be participating with you.

Ha! I'm with you there! It worked in Resident Evil 4 because you wanted to be able to locate the scarce ammo in a boss fight or whatever, but for me Object Shine is a no-no for this kind of game.
It worked in RE4 cause it was a linear shooter/action game and was more concerned with keeping the action going hot and not so much about exploration or discovery. Plus the fact that you were only concerned with finding health, weapons, and ammo. Sure there were some misc jewelry to find but that didn't serve much purpose other than some extra money.
Object shine does not work in BS as it did in RE4, IMO. Part of the draw of BS, to me, is the non-linear exploration and suspense. Also given the fact that, in addition to weapons, ammo, and health items, you can make weapons and mods from various pieces of junk laying around I don't want to be, 'told' which items can be picked up and used as soon as I walk into a room. That's part of the exploration to me, to find out what does work and what I can use. Plus its also more realistic to have to scavange for your tools.

anybody else read the first part of this!? this better be a cruel joke or i hate you! (and myself for reading) :mad: where'd you get your information from?
i got the information from a very special series of secret texts mailed to me directly from ken levine's personal assistant's secretary who's family lives just around the corner from my second cousins once removed. I was also mailed the parts and equipment needed to build my very own 10 inch big daddy figurine
The String class represents character strings. All string literals in Java programs, such as "abc", are implemented as instances of this class.
Strings are constant; their values cannot be changed after they are created. String buffers support mutable strings. Because String objects are immutable they can be shared. For example:
String str = "abc";
is equivalent to:
char data[] = {'a', 'b', 'c'};
String str = new String(data);
Here are some more examples of how strings can be used:
System.out.println("abc");
String cde = "cde";
System.out.println("abc" + cde);
String c = "abc".substring(2,3);
String d = cde.substring(1, 2);
