I always try to have good relations with my neighboring natives and sooner or later the natives adjacent to my borders will try to give their villages to me.

I've always just accepted their proposal without thinking much about it until now. Is it really a good thing?

When the village is gone you can't send colonists to train there.
You won't get converted natives from that village anymore.
No village to trade with.
And most importantly of all. If you have a defensive pact, the natives will help you in your independence war, but no villages = no braves to fight.

So what are the pro's of taking over the villages, exactly? You get a converted native, but what else?

There is no pro, it is useless. I also stopped accepting their proposals. It is actually irritating that they keep offering these villages every few turns and I lose time clicking NO, NO, NO.

And has anyone figured out how do you propose defensive pacts to natives?
I only had them ask me about them.

The tribe has to like you enough. Then the option will be available on the diplomacy screen. You better have all the founding fathers that apease natives. It's easier with some tribes, like the iroquois/cherokee, compared to be others like the Aztec.

I had difficulty identifying which village were on offer and closed the two with the most used training facility. Live and learn.

The only mionor benefit I can see is that you can start a new town on the old village site or inside the newly acquired territory.

I do however appreciate that training is no longer limited to one settler per Indian village, and also that they accept petty criminals without comment.
