I am exploring the map with my scout and he discovers a treasure. I send it back to my town and the king graciously offers to transport it for 50% (kind of reminds me of Congress....). Anyways, I continue exploring and send one or two more treasures back to my town and they just sit there. King does not offer anymore. I eventually build a galleon and send them on their merry way - but that is a LONG time into the game. Should my king be offering every time I bring a treasure in, or just the first time?

Send the treasure back to port town.
The next turn, select the treasure unit.
Now you have the option button to send to europe (little ship with arrow beneath). Press it and voila!

Unless you badly need the money, I would suggest to keep it in one port town and wait until you get a Galleon. 50% loss of the treasure is a lot.
I usually use those first couple of treasures to fund my galleon. :)
