View Full Version : PS3 Might Be Better Than The 360 Version?

With the release of Star Wars TFU, after downloading both the 360, and PS3 version I like many other people are finding the PS3 version is better. The sound is better, and the colors are a little better. Another big thing is with the processor the PS3 has, it can show more things on the screen, and the physics are a little better on the PS3 over the 360. This is the first game, or at least demo, the the PS3 can out pace the 360 from a hardware standpoint.

Will we see any of these differences on Bioshock on the PS3 version over the 360, mainly the physics aspect, and sound? Did the programmers find they could do a little more with the extra power that the PS3 has?

I think the PS3 version will be better but not like omg why didnt I wait much better, just some minor increases in gameplay. BTW get ready for a ****storm of xbox 360 owners

They should enhance graphics, water physics, and stuff like that, other then that this game is pretty much perfect =D

BTW the only reason why Im buying Star Wars for the ps3, is because the controller suits the game alot more. I sold my GTA4 just to get Star Wars GTA4 was over rated.
Xbox is more of a FPS type controller.

One thing that is a given is that with the install the PS3 will have less texture pop-in. Though not a huge problem, it was occasionally fairly bad on some levels like Arcadia.

I have to ask, I see it written all the time but I have no idea what it is, texture pop-in? I know what textures are but can someone explain what pop-in is?

a pop in is when something pops in out of random during gameplay, example your in a area and theres a box, you leave the area and come back and the box isn't there until you get closer to where the box was, it pops in. hope that helps

An example i witnessed in Arcadia near the waterfall grotto was when approaching a corpse it first appeared to be a grey human shaped form with no features but after loading for a second it's face, clothing, etc "popped" in.

Yeah, superbioshock, I'd have to agree.
After playing SWFU demo on both PS3 and 360 it felt slightly more intuitive on the PS3.
And normally I prefer the 360 controller.

Seeing if any of you've played GTA4 for both the 360 version and the ps3 version, you know that the ps3 version if freaking mind-blowin' compare to the 360 version. The Ps3 always brings out that little extra awesomeness that lies deep within the games.

I've got the PS3 GTA 4 and i actually think the Xbox version looks nicer colourwise.

Yeah, 360 version runs at a higher resolution (720p) as opposed to the PS3's 640p. Though the PS3 version has less pop in. There isn't a clear winner, but I prefer the 360 version.

I believe the PS3 runs at a lower framerate but has more effects and filters going on with respect to GTA IV.

I don't think either console is particularly better, but rather it comes down to developers. With the Xbox being out longer (and easier to port/transition to from the PC) I think that is the reason why things have been looking better there. But as games like MGS4 show, if you have the talent, time, and/or will, you can make a solid game on any system you choose.

That said, I fully expect BioShock PS3 to kick as much ass (and maybe a little more with the extras and home?) as it did on the 360...

Oh. I thought ps3 ran at 1080p, but what do I know.

Yeah it can run at 1080p but you have to force it to!

The game's native resolution on PS3 is 640p but can be upscaled to 720p/1080p. There are only a few games like Lair that have a native 1080p resolution.

GTA 4 for the ps3 is 640p upscaled?

Because it looks much better on the ps3 then the 360 either way.

Yes, the PS3 version of GTA IV overall looks better than the 360, the only con is a lack of 80 pixels of height and ~143 pixels of width. Woo, huge. Still, the PS3 version does have better effects, better frame rate, and neither system run at 1080p as advertised on the back. But, alas, I don't think there's any reason this should be done for Bioshock, as it wasn't done like this for the 360, and both versions are supposed to have the exact same graphics configurations.

i've never noticed the difference. i suspect bioshock will be the same.

Well, I heard that GTA4 was supposed to have more features in the game, but I guess that the xbox's DVD-Rom discs could'nt handle it.

...As opposed to what, exactly? Both versions of GTAIV have all of the same stuff as of present, but the 360 version will get downloadable content or episodes or something, but I've heard about the same content coming out for the PS3 later on in 2009, not sure if that's true or not. The only differences graphically are that the 360 can run at 720p and the PS3 at 640p but with a higher effect density and fidelity(you don't notice a difference between the two when playing). I believe the effects on the PS3 were to make up for the lowered resolution. But that doesn't fix the mislabeled cases for both platforms. Anyways, The PS3 version of Bioshock seems to look exactly the same in screenshots, but it's hard to tell because for whatever reason it may be, websites enlarge and reduce the image size, making it blurry, fuzzy, and artifacty, so you really can't go off of that.

The PS3's hardware is better than the 360's, but it's hard enough getting it the same on each system so developers just tend to keep it the same on both.

This has been argued to death already. The PS3 runs at a lower native resolution YET has far greater texture detail and far less pop in. The PS3 version has substantially better graphics, and the resolution comparison is irrelevant. It's a technical bulletpoint and signifies nothing have to do with the actual graphic performance.

To death.. that seems a bit extreme.

Were you in any internet forums when GTAIV was released!? :)

The PS3 version of GTA IV runs at a lower resolution but performs better overall. There are less jaggy edges, the draw distance is more expansive due to the PS3 not using the depth of field filters that is on the XBox version, there is less pop up and frame rate drops and cut-scenes load quicker thanks to the hard drive. The TV videos are also higher resolution due to the blu-ray space, because of that there is also one more additional camera view when watching the TV, it is much closer to the screen. The colours are warmer on the PS3 version as well.

With that said, people get far too hung up on this stuff. The game plays the same on both systems and short of controller preference I don't know why anyone cares either way. PS3 has better performance and the 360 has downloadable content.

about BioShock...

For those who have played it on the 360 and PC, how is the PS3 version looking by comparison? The PS3 version looks greyer to me, like many 360/PS3 games, but I haven't played the 360 version so I might be seeing something that isn't really there.

I have it installed right now, actually. It looks for the most part the same, but as I said, websites do crazy things with screen shots just to save bandwidth, so the overall screenshot quality is rarely the same as the real thing. Not to mention Console Screenshots are and always will be blurry.

Hey, I'm kinda new at this still, sorry to disrupt the GTA IV/Bioshock discussion comparing the two platforms but I'm a bit confused about this thread...

Is it just me or is this thread dedicated to asking questions for the development team for the PS3 version of Bioshock?

Cause I'm having a bit of trouble finding them... they have yet to chime in on anything!

Anyway, just thought it was kinda fishy that there's no "expert" here to guide the conversation/answer any questions we may have.

Actually, this entire forum is for asking the team questions (hence the "Questions for the Team" name up top). If you search, you will find plenty of replies by the programmers in various threads. Unfortunately, they cannot answer each and every post since they are hard at work on their primary job: programming the game.

Employees tend to have "2K" in their name, so that might be a good search term.

Yeah there is quite a lot of 2K folks on here but they don't seem to actually answer that many questions unfortunatly.

I just read that the PS3 version has all the achievements of the 360 version and it is only 4 new achievements/trophys added to the PS3 version of the game.

And yet I'm still chomping at the bit to get my hands on a game I've already played...seemingly to death. When word one confirmed the PS3 version I dropped the 360 controller anticipating this as if I had never played it before.
