Last night - playing england against the Arabs, Chinese, and Indians ranked FFA.

I got lucky with my first two huts and got my 100gold at about turn 10.
Right from the off, the arabs decided that I would be their first target. This was both bad for me, and the arabs. Bad for the arabs because I had longbow archers, and bad for me because I had to spend all my hard earned gold rushing units.

I managed to defend the constant onslaught of attacks from both warriors and catapults defended by archers throughout the whole of BC. Eventually I found an artifact that gave me the great wall and forced a piece.

The war had cost me dearly, and the Indians were rushing ahead on tech.

My first GP was David, so I built a barracks and settled him in london. At this point the arabs had started attacking the chinese and had been having some success. I decided that their capital might be undefended so I went on a horseman offensive. I built one Infiltration blitz horseman unit and sent him off to Tripoli. Unfortunately he had a vet archer army there, and I couldn't dent it. I retreated, and made my way towards the AI Spanish.

At this time, the spanish decided to put their first settler right next to my second city. I planned to attack that city. Just before I was to launch my assualt, I got a GP and flipped the city. Nice. So I turned my focus on Madrid. Two squares from Madrid an Arabian Galley landed archers and catapults next to london. I gave up on the assualt of Madrid and directed my troops to defend london. I shouldn't have worried. The very capable vet longbow archers destroyed three catapult armies and received engineer and a great general.

At this point I decided I needed a more responsive defense. So I built a road between the flipped city and my second, and one between london and the second. I stationed the elite archer in the middle city. I now had a rapid reaction force to defend any of my cities with almost unstopable might.

I refocused on Madrid, and after many successful battles I lost a fight I had the odds in, I was most displeased.

I started to tech up rapidly. My second city became my gold one, my capital, science, and the flipped city, being near three hills (with England - 4 hammers), four mountains, and an oak tree, became my production powerhouse.

All the time I was chasing India for tech. Never closing the 3-4 tech lead. I beelined for Mass Production, and built leo's wonder. Stupid idea. I forgot about the complete tech thing with Leo's and ended up with pikemen instead of infantry because I didn't have riflemen.

It took me a few turns to get over that mistake, and I knew I needed to switch up my play a bit. Right now, the Indian player made a fatal error. He offered me flight in return for Mass Production. I switched research to advanced flight and rushed a factory in my production city. Leo's workshop had upgraded my galeons to cruisers. I made a fleet and loaded on 3 engineer infantry armies. I sent them a long way round to Dehli, ensuring that they were in the Indian's fog of war. I settled them within striking distance of the Indian capital. As soon as I got advanced flight I rushed 5 bomber wings in 4 turns. Station in London, the bombers were two turns from Dehli. The straight flight would take them into view of India, so I doglegged them over the Ocean.

The next turn was the clincher, and warrants the titled "Combined ops". First I noticed that the Indians had launched a battleship into the Ocean. I decided this was a major threat and dispatch one wing to destroy it. Next, my cruisers came into play. They steamed for Dehli, dropping two infantry armies at the road choke point between dehli and the supporting cities. They were defended from attack by a river.

Next I lauched four bomber wings at Dehli. The first three destroyed three armies, and the fourth got a no entry sign. I switch to my remaining infantry for an amphious assualt on the empty capital, but the Indian player rushed in a tank army at the last minute. I used my remaining bomber wing to dispatch the tanks, and landed my engineers safely to capture the most powerful city in that game.

The Indian player quit. After mopping up the Indians I now had 1500 research per turn and 1000 Gold per turn. I decided to go for a tech victory. I redistributed my bombers over the empire and waited. The arabs tried to attack me with tanks and found the wrong end of a set of 1000lb bombs.

I decided to curb this threat and sent every wing to Tripoli. I also sent out 6 battleship fleets to choke tech in Arabia. One of these fleets I sent to Tripoli loaded with engineer infantry.

After the initial onslaught from my bombers, tripoli was emptied and I assualted my troops. The arab player had a useful network of roads for me to capture his cities like dominoes, and after the third capture, he quit.

Very good game that I probably would have lost without the swapping of flight with mass production.

It sure is fun to have a planned and somewhat complex assault, especially when it actually goes well. Nice work.
