This may seem like an insult to ps3 owners, i do not mean it as an insult, but is it worth it to make Bioshock for the ps3? The sales for the ps3 are not.....the best. Doesnt anyone who already wanted bioshock already have it for the 360 or PC? Will you be accumulating more money selling the copies of the game to ps3 owners than you will be spending to make the copies?

Umm how about the people who don't have a 360 or not a good enough PC to run Bioshock? *COUGH* ME * COUGH*.....The point is 2K wants to add more Bioshock fans, and Sony paid for exclusivity....//

I chuckled at this question. I'm sure 2K has an experienced sales staff that crunches numbers for exactly these situations. ;)

Just FYI, as of first quarter this year, the PS3 had a worldwide installed base of about 13 million. The XBOX 360 had about 19 million. So while the 360 is ahead, we're still talking about huge numbers here.

The PS3 will also see an almost guaranteed sales boost this year due to the blu-ray formats win over HD-DVD. This is for 2 reasons. 1) Sony can now take the money being spent on that war and spend it on exclusive titles for the PS3. And 2) many people (like myself) may buy a PS3 because we need a blu-ray player and the PS3 is one of the best ones out there. And a standalone blu-ray player costs almost as much as a PS3!

You bring up a good point, though, about how long the game has been on the market and how some PS3 owners may have already bought it for the PC or 360. That is exactly why (IMHO) Sony required a little extra content from 2K as part of the contract. They have to give their players a reason to buy an old game that they may even already own.

Well its not a habit I get into very often but I loved the 360 version so much I actually went out to get a ps3 after I heard the rumor that there would be extra content. (BTW thanks 2k for not making me feel like a shmuck) I'm sure there are the die hard faithful that will take the journey once more, and I know there are some ps3 only folks who would love to get a chance to play what was widely hailed as the game of 2007. So in the long run I don't think 2k will lose anything from extending their fan base especially after the announced sequel and movie that are in the works.

Exclusive DLC and new opening movie, anyone? I will surely be buying it again, though I hate installations. Dang slow Blu-Ray drive. Oh well, better in the long run. Plenty of new fans will be joining the bandwagon. And they will surely be making a profit off of this as it hardly costs much to make copies of a game.

PS3 sales are picking up. And its always good to have a major title like Bioshock out for your system with new goodies. There are precious few AAA titles on the PS3 at the moment, and most of them are exclusives and or first party stuff. A solid multiplatform release with exclusives can never be a bad thing.

Anything is worth being ported to the library of the PS3 so long as it passes Sony's quality qualifications.

I don't feel that they're doing enough to compel the average user who's already picked up Bioshock to buy it again, except the most hardcore completists...

Then again, 2K could surprise us. *crosses fingers*

BioShock PS3 is a smart move. They first put it on 360/PC, and there are roughly 19 million 360 owners out there, and now when they put it on PS3 there are roughly 13 million more players they could get.

13 million more players is a risk I would take.

Thats not a very difficult thing. The amount of shovelware I've seen on sony's systems is immense. (The other consoles also have that problem so lets not start another console flame war.)

unless most of those 13 million players have a computer. i doubt that none of them have already bought bioshock for pc.

Heh, after reading this and other threads I have to wonder, WHO CARES (and more importantly WHY??)

As regular Joe Consumers, none of us have to worry about the financial aspects of whether or not a game is worth it to port over for a certain system (let 2K, Sony and whoever else worry about that. It doesn't affect our lives by any means.) And if Sony wants to have the game ported, then great, it gives the PS3 owners who haven't ever experienced the greatness of BS a chance to give it a whirl. I find it funny how affected people get over something that has no bearing in any way, shape or form over their lives :p

Personally, I'd say if 2K wanted to trim it down/alter it and slap it on the PSP or DS, more power to 'em.

BioShock on the PSP and the DS is not practacle. Better chance on the Wii.

Maybe on the PSP 2 or the DS Ultra.

There are a whole lot of people who own PS3's that don't own a decent gaming computer. Many, including myself, buy consoles so we don't have to check specifications or spend hundreds of dollars upgrading fairly often. A console gives us about 4 years of high (though not the highest) quality graphics without specification hassles.

So there are surely millions of PS3 owners who have not yet purchased BioShock...

The way I see it, the more people who buy Bioshock, the more money goes into producing Bioshock 2. :D

I'm sure they gauged their idea off of the Oblivion success sales for the PS3. I'm guessing you didn't know that Oblivion is now a Greatest Hits title.

They will certainly make a fair amount of money porting the game over to the PS3. I do not think any of them would honestly say it is worth purchasing again if you already own it on a different system. The additions are nice, but hardly worth another $60. Besides, doesn't this mean they will be more familiar with the PS3 now so that things will be easier when it comes time for BioShock 2? More then a few people find making a game for the PS3 to be difficult. Also, I cannot imagine the Wii ever getting any kind of version of this game. They would have to lose so much content and frankly Nintendo hardly seems interested in "hardcore" games.

I dont have a capable pc graphicwise nor a 360 so I'm really happy about this coming through,Get me a steelbook case I would even cash up to 100$ for this.No more "envy" from me,I can finally play it <3
I bet I'm not alone in this kind of situation so I'd say yes Its a good move and it will probably still sell very well being the game it is,It wasn't game of the year for no reason and even after almost 2 years now graphics still look darn sweet.Rapture is an amazing place indeed
