Alyssaa Finley, Executive Producer at 2K Marin, has updated us on the PLAYSTATION 3 trophies for their upcoming BioShock.

Trophies can be obtained in the game by "Researching, Modifying Weapons, Hacking, and Crafting." The trophies in the game will encourage gamers to try out every aspect of BioShock.

One trophy is the "Historian" trophy, a silver trophy. It is awarded if a player finds every single audio diary. Another is "Brass Balls", a gold trophy, in which you have to beat BioShock on Hard with the Vita-Chambers turned off.

These are just a few of the trophies in the game, and there are more to come as the game nears it's release.

Will we get to see the trophies before launch or will you make us wait?

Same here. I still have stuff I have to do on my 360 version but 2k made the game so good that I keep forgetting I'm chasing achievments whenever I go back.

This is so stupid. All 2k did was port the achievements from the Xbox version to the PS3 version. Those trophies are going to be so pathetically easy to obtain. Will there be anything unique as for the trophies? Like for Survivor mode or whatever?

I'm not too happy about trophies. I believe they are useless and only devolve the gameplay of a game. Especially with ridiculous ones like "Hack a security camera." All I have to do is pay a little money and "Bam!" bronze trophy already unlocked.

New information on the official PS Blog:

Hello again readers. I am Tynan Wales, a game designer here at 2K Marin and I’m happy to bring you more tidbits from the BioShock vaults.

There have been many questions regarding the trophy system in BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3, and we are glowing from the attention. As some of the trophy criteria noted in our last post seemed familiar, some drew the conclusion that the PS3 wouldn’t have unique trophies. That is not the case.

As BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3 continues its ascent from the depths we have assembled new information regarding the trophies that will be available to players. Specifically, we have new intelligence on the trophies which are unique to BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3.

“A Man Chooses” is the first of these golden trophies and is reserved for those with the courage to complete Survivor difficulty. Its name is meant, in the words of Andrew Ryan, father of Rapture, to remind you that a man chooses because in Survivor mode every choice could mean the difference between life and death.

The final trial for any committed BioShock player is “I Chose The Impossible”. This trophy is named appropriately as attaining it will make even the most self-assured gamesman into a shaking leaf. To make this your own, you must complete BioShock on Survivor difficulty with the Vita-Chambers turned off.

Each of these shining treasures can only be found on the PLAYSTATION 3. So tense up your trigger finger and polish your diving helmet, you will need them at the ready.

I've just been looking at list of achievements for the 360. They're quite a tall order, should keep me entertained for hours and hours.

Seriously, trophies are the best thing introduced on PS3. People like me with such a competitive nature just will not stop until we get that tricky platinum trophy :D

Yeah. The trophies, as well as achievements, are great and entertaining. They can sometimes add hours to a games replay value.

Achievements spurred a dirty term amongst Xbox 360 owners:

Achievement W**** (n.) - A player who thrives on the unlocking of Achievements and the earning of Gamerscore. This type of player also tends to rent, borrow, purchase, or play games simply to unlock Achievements and earn Gamerscore.

I read somewhere that there's a trophy for beating survival mode without Vita Chambers (did I spell this right?)

The trophy is called "I chose the impossible". Great name IMO...:)

IMO = In my opinion

As you can see, I use it quite a lot. I don't know, I just don't want people to think I'm imposing my opinion.

By the way, it's not noobish to ask something you don't know...:)

So did you hate the achievements? Would you begrudge the ps3 owners the opportunity to enjoy something similar?

Yup. Achievements are a great/evil thing for the 360.
1100 on BIOSHOCK.:D
I don't consider myself an Acievement Wh**e, more like an Achievement Completist.
I just got my 1st Platinum Trophy in UNCHARTED: Drake's Fortune :D
(a damn good game btw).
Too bad MGS4 didn't have Trophies enabled.
I don't relish the idea of getting Big Boss Rank again just for a Trophy.

... Brass Balls Trophy. Truly for the hardcore, this award is given to the player that completes the game on Hard difficulty with Vita Chambers turned off. As Wales put it, gathering this award is, "A feat so daring that anyone even glimpsing this formidable Trophy in your glass case will be shaking with terror and respect."

Really?

Lets face it, the Vita-Chambers being on makes the game so simplistic a child could beat it, and "Hard" difficulty just isn't what it used to be. (Remember old school FPS games? yeah, those were the days.)

Actually I hate the idea to have to replay a game many times and on the hardest mode just to get the gold trophies (and thus the platinum). It spoils the fun. I did it for Uncharted and I swear I didn't enjoy it at all. With Fallout 3 I with one play I could reach the platinum. It still took 93 hours or more, and I had to save and reload before the trophies for levels 8, 14 and 20 depending on karma.

Anyway, I noticed that a PSN friend of mine got platinum without having the last trophies for the sisters (something like T on Team). Do they belong to the DLC? If so why are they on the list before getting it?

I always wondered...the DLC, does that go to the overall Platinum Goal or can you still obtain PLatinum without earning the trophies for the DLC Missions? In essence, the percentage might read somewhere around 90% complete with a Platinum Trophy. Anyone know if this is the case?
