That doctor looks crazy (no pun intended :) ). I wonder if you can interact with him, get help from him etc.

"1st do no harm..." :p

They should have shot the surgeon operating from behind— it would have been a lot more dramatic that way.

Can you or someone else upload the HD 12x7 version onto Megupload or filefront please?

Doctor Satan seems to have made a life for himself in the city of Rapture
Crazy doctors are an overdone cliché, but in a videogame it's all about the presentation of the caricature of an enemy. Even though we saw many tidbits of this psycho surgeon within 30 seconds, I expect those events within the Medical Pavilion to be a nightmarish peregrination, slow and methodical enough to instill a sense of anxious pressure on the player.

The mad doctor may be a cliche, but in terms of the videogame world, he's already one of the most developed characters available today. How many other games give their enemies an actual background and, better yet, a motive for what they're doing?

I can't believe we have to wait until August. And as if that weren't bad enough, they're going to continue releasing material right up until then, just to tease us.

Yeah, this video reminded me of Thief 3's The Cradle.

A bigger version would be nice, if someone can find it. :)

I like this flythrough video even more than the last one. Watching it, really shows me that this is the right game to buy, shaping up really great. The mood is just perfect.

Will we meet the doctor and then have the peculiarities of his environment revealed to us (maybe while he gives us the 'guided tour'), or will we find all of that before we encounter him?)

Maybe you could trap him in a quarantine room or something similar and have him plead with you and/or demand you let him out. Maybe that could begin some kind of negotiation between the two of you...but what's to say he's not lying? ;)

He might direct you to something he wants you to have in return for his release, or to something he wants you to bring to him, at which point the tour of the medical pavilion might begin.

Love this gents slow mental decay.

An image popped into my head of him writing these manifestos out with cast off 11th fingers of his mutating patients and using their once pristine stored blood as a macabre pigment. :D

Interesting, is this the same surgeon we see killed in the Hunting Big Daddy video, I wonder?

I imagine that Rapture would have more than one surgeon, especially since they tend to specialise; you wouldn't want a plastic surgeon to remove a brain tumour. Also, the other medical staff in the OR (doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, etc) would wear the same uniform.

I guess so, but that's where the trouble with spawning is really emphasised: Just how many medical staff does Rapture's medical pavilion have?

I know what you mean. It's not so bad with generic foes, but when you have a specific group, they should be limited in number.

It was like that with the monkeys on the Von Braun; they said there were a set number (cookie to whoever can tell me how many), but I felt like I killed twice that.

Bigger Version. (http://xbox360movies.ign.com/xbox360/video/article/773/773102/bio_shock_medical_trailer_flvhighwide.flv)
You can watch it with FLV Player (http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/193122-0O88/FLVPlayerSetup.exe) or mplayer.

paloalto on the TTLG pointed out that around 19 secs there's a voice wich sounds a bit like Stephen Russel. :) And I think it may be possible. And the footsteps are almost the same too (from the Thief games). :D

If there were different types of surgeons, based on different vocations, they would have to be identifiable as such.

They could have name cards you can identify, referring to some info you discover about them within their operating theater, or you can observe each of them doing their specific surgery style. Brain Surgeons could attack with skull drills, anaesthesiologist could attack with gas that makes the player lose sensation of pain, and of course large saws for the quack willing to amputate some limbs.

When I first saw the Big Daddy video I assumed he was some generic enemy, I wasn't aware then that there was a unique surgeon NPC.

He seemed to be killed as easy as any other enemy, which suggests there's no indestructible NPCs at least. It could present an interesting scenario whereby if you kill him you make your stay in the medical pavilion safer, but as a consequence potentially remove, or reveal less about a side plot.

I'd like to be able to maybe form an alliance with him, if he's a unique character.

No, I'd rather no one honestly help the player in their hostile sojourn through Rapture's glassed walls. Now if they were to be dishonest about it, doublecrossing the player at an unsuspecting moment. Oh now I've gone and spoiled the surprise :o

System Shock 2 provided allies few and far between, one being a voice directing you right to your foil (actually being the foil), and the other I remember only being interested in his escape with his girlfriend, events he set in motion merely coincidentally helping you out.

I had completely forgotten about whatshisname and his gf. I like the fact that there was something going on that wasn't player-centric. That sort of thing really helped the immersion - I didn't feel like I was in some elaborate Truman Show experience.

And why do I always have to do creepy romps through deserted places by myself? It's completely possible to have a group of people and still have things be creepy in lots of cases (Aliens) they add to the effect as they get picked off right in front of you with you being powerless to stop it.

I guarantee that if I'm stuck in some creepy underwater dystopic community where science has gone awry and diving suit goliaths are trying to kill me Ill be scared.

If I'm stuck in some creepy underwater dystopic community where science has gone awry and diving suit goliaths are trying to kill me and one kills my doctor right in front of me Ill be sleeping with the lights on.
