To this day, Goldeneye, Smash Bros and Halo are the funnest games I have ever played. I am sure many others feel the same way.

And I think we all know how much fun those games would've been if they didn't allow local multiplayer. I think we all know why Wii Sports and the Wii in general is such a big hit with families

Online isn't the same thing. Playing with people we actually know, people sitting by our side is so much better than gaming in a room by yourself.

I think it would ruin a lot of the atmosphere of the game to have a buddy running around with you. One of the main reasons the game worked so well for me was the feeling of being alone in this odd place trying to figure out what happened. Co op would turn into a run and gun, and I don't think the game is paced properly for that.

Yeah I agree with you. I think it would sort of ruin the immersion and atmosphere of the game. Just don't see it working out too well.

This would chance the whole game, but I'm sure this would be a great idea to tell to bioshock II developers. Simplest ideas are usually proved to be the best.
I cannot think any thing more fun than inventing new ways to prank those miserable splicers. But planning those pranks with a friend and laughing afterwards for succesful (or not so) co-operative plays would bring some memorable moments. With a best friend fun is double-fun!

Thinking Gears of War? Repetive, somewhat dull singleplayer game which yet set the standards being one of the most innovative one. Just because of split-screen multiplayer which just rocked because it let player create their own strategies and plays. With plasmids and other innovations (fire, ice, electricity, BEES(!), traps, etc) I can assure, with bioshock team childish minds (in a creative way, you sillies) the possibilities and fun would be limitless! ;)

The thing I loved about Bioshock (I got to try it on my Step-fathers X360) was the fact you had to explore by yourself. Having Co-op will ruin that. I played a few games with other people and have yet to find someone I like to co-op with. There are ones I play death match or CTF with them. but I like to find things on my own so I am hoping they keep it the way it was with other upgrades.

It won't ruin the experience..if you want to explore by yourself then do it. If this game won't have co-op i'm passing on it.

Suit yourself, you are missing out on a unique experience. Not every single game needs a multiplayer mode nor a co-op mode. Just because it does not feature co-op doesn't mean it is bad.

The main issue with co-op? Jack's (The main character you play) face. It's meant to remain secret. Even though there have been some careful eyes who have spotted pictures of him inside the game his face shouldn't be revealed. Next, who will be the other person in BioShock? Jack was in there alone. He had people talking to him through radio but he was alone. Who would be the other person then.

And if you will pass on BioShock because it has no co-op then you have issues. It's already a godsend you are getting it on the PS3 and some bonus DLC content exclusive to PS3.

BioShock is a game meant to be played alone.

I imagine that in the Wii port of BioShock in 2009 there will be multiplayer. It seems to me that BioShock will get better with each port.

Hey, be respectful here. She answered your question, and she has been awesome for everyone on the forums. That question was really unnecessary.

And about the co-op, I don't think BioShock even needs it. It is the most solid single-player game that I have ever played. Co-op is always a nice idea, but BioShock dominates without any multiplayer.

If you want to be a loner then don't bother being worried about co-op. Some people actually enjoy co-op like me. For example, Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 were singleplayer, untill some radicalists made a modification that allowed cooperative play. Can you imagine how cool it would be to double team a Big Daddy?

i would like it

had an idea to add to the lonieness have a new charecter introduce for your partner and have him die at the end of the deck not in a cut scene just at the beging before you can move have him get shot by a splicecr or gutted then introduce a new one like when you see atlas for the first time, then leave it open

That sounds too complex and tacky. Perhaps it would be better if there was an alternate storyline about two new visitors to Rapture. Both of which are lesbian females. One is Indian and the other is African. How often do you see that in every game?

ofcourse she is, idiot. she works at 2K that makes her a hell of a lot hotter than someone working a ubisoft, the ultra garbage factory of gaming.

If this was directed at me, I was simply saying they don't need to just throw it in. I loooove co-op, but I don't think they need to just throw it in for this game, maybe they can get us some co-op in the sequel. I play co-op all the time, so I was not being a loner, I was meaning to say that BioShock can do fine without it added on this time.

Sorry but all those saying it would ruin the experience are insane! If i want to play it co-op that's up to me, personally i find it more fun,, but nobody is forcing anyone to play the co-op if you feel it will tarnish the experience. I will probably complete the singeplayer first then do co-op anyway. It's almost the same argument as cheat codes, why not stick them in once you have already done the game for replayability?

I think that a multiplayer option would be expensive. I mean, you have to make a new character, and a brand new skin. Your buddy will see you in Rapture, and you will see them. It also means more dialouge, because you have to know who this person is. I'm sure it would a a whole new level of gameplay to Bioshock, but it would cost a lot. :D

Actually they could just take the cheap way out and have Player Two as an exact replica of Player One. No cost at all, just a little bit of programming. I change my mind, multiplayer gaming is stupid and mediocre. There are so many games offering multiplayer out there that there is hardly anyone playing the games that you like to play. Why have people stopped playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein?

The duplication of the main character just wouldn't fit in Rapture for me. It annoyed me in Halo, and I was so happy when they released the screenshot of the 4-player co-op team.

Anyways, I would just hope for a co-op option in BioShock 2.

No not insane. The game is set up to make you feel alone and out of sorts. Its part of the story line. There is no way that you could set the game up for co op without breaking many of the plot points.

Yeah that is like Resident Evil. It was always important to feel scared and alone with no one to cover your back. A huge worry that people have with RE5 is that there will always be a partner to cover you. No more always alone feeling.

So restructure the whole game then?

Well when Half-Life was ported to the PS2 in the year 2000 A.D. it came with a 2 player co-op campain that was completely different fom the single player campain. Instead of playing as Gordon Freeman, player one and two both played as two seperate female scientists. All with a different plot.

So if Valve did all that for the PS2 owners back in the day. Why can't 2k do all of that for us now?

I'd also like to mention that the port of Half-Life to the PS2 contained a feature that allowed a user to plug in a USB keyboard into the PS2 to play with a keyboard. No game ever offered that back then I believe.

I'm actually confused how does sticking co-op in ruin the experience of being alone? IF you want to feel that experience play the singleplayer! No-one would be forced to play co-op, i would like it for once i have completed the game (along with cheats). They don't need to change the story for the co-op anyway, just do what halo does.

With all this no multiplayer, bad cover art, bad extras which will go 360 anyway and no graphical or level improvement i really don't think i will get this game, i've already done a chunk of it on 360 anyway.

I agree with the people who say it will ruin the experience.I think the main story should just be single player, but i also think there should be 2 player Challenge rooms and maybe online challenge rooms too.Anyone agree?

When Irrational was first working on Bioshock, they were considering puting in a form of multiplayer, but they decided to focus on Bioshock's story instead. As almost everyone whose played Bioshock would tell you, the tradeoff was well worth it. I do hope they find a way to put co-op in Bioshock 2 without compromising the story, as I can't think of anything more fun than killing Big Daddies with friends :)

And that doesn't rip you out of the world at all? I love the immersion factor in games and when I see something that doesn't fit it shatters the illusion for me. If there were some kind of multiplayer sandbox splicer v splicer thing I'd be cool with that but I don't think it would work to have co op with the existing story.

How many times do i need to point out that no-one would be forced to play the co-op and the singleplayer isnt being removed! It's like cheat codes, experience it first seriously then go back for fun. Play singleplayer first then co-op!

It would need to be a secondary storyline I think to work at all, but it could still run through the same levels etc. Perhaps at the start of the game Johnny isn't killed and he is the second player. Maybe towards the end when you become a Big Daddy the second player could become the Little Sister!

You know I wish people would just be content playing a great game & not always whinge about the things that arent in it..

Its like people have an abstract view of games, they ignore what the game has to offer & continually focus on what the game doesnt have.. "ooo no co-op multiplay (or multiplay at all), ooo this game is designed for widescreen monitors but I only have a standard tv / crt monitor, ooo there is no plasmid that shoots firey lava from my bunghole while making a spectacularly large BLAMO noise"

Would you prefer the dev team to work on a great game, or dedicate a portion of their time to chucking in some form of multiplay while deducting valuable time and resources from the original scope of the project?

I think adding any form of multiplay to this game would subtract from the experience, & I think all the console-tar... err gamers who think otherwise, should have resistance locked into their playstation 24/7 as that clearly satisfies all their gaming needs and will always do so till the end of time (supposedly december 2012). Those that want an immersive awesome story to experience though, Play Bioshock. (oh and do so on hard, easy is like a cakewalk, and no the cake is not a lie)

The console gamers should be appreciative that such a fine game is going to grace their systems. certainly blows the majority of the other PS3 titles out of the water (except maybe Flow or that rubber ducky game :P)

Dude I'm not bagging on you I'm just asking. I am just of the opinion that it wouldn't work, if you think otherwise then thats cool. My main concern is that apart from the story not being set up for it, co-op would turn the game into a more run and gun experience. In the case of Halo thats okay because its a run and gun game to begin with. Bioshock is a fps but its also about the mysterious atmosphere, trying to piece together what happened, thinking creatively to take down enemies. Its often been described of as the thinking man's shooter and I fear it would devolve into just another fps.

I still think 2 player Challenge rooms would be better instead of having co op story.maybe they can make some challenge rooms specifically for co op or something?

Talikar
08-20-2008, 01:31 AM
co op? In Bioshock?

That would be fun, but would take away from the game, since it wouldn't fit with the story.

With that said, if added the second player would have to be a security bot (and would have as much life as a regular one). Meaning, you hack a security bot, and the second player can fly around with it and shoot things with it. That would be okay in my opinion (although may not be very fun for the second player, dying all the time and having to wait for another security bot to be hacked).

Or the beginning of the game could be altered slightly and the 2nd player could be Johnny. Would kind of work.:p

But yeah, Bioshock doesn't really need a co-op mode, it's not that kind of game. Though, I suppose it couldn't hurt it either.
