In this topic lets' share our first MP experience:

The difficulties (joining a game),
The excitement of victory, after 3 hors of hardcore gameplay,
Trying to persuade your wife that Civ is something much more than a game. That is why you go to bed 2am.

To start the story from the beginning; I was really excited when I saw my game of a lifetime on a bookstore shelf. I just grab the box and rush to home back.

My tutorial game was a real joy, I was really impressed from the quality of the graphics (As I am a great fan of the series starting from Civ1). If you are a hardcore shoot-them-up player you may find the movie in the beginning weak. But for me the important part was the content. And the Civ story is again expressed beautifully and briefly.

After a tut game with AI, I started to join a game. As I used to play Resistance or Rainbow may experience was finding a bunch of players and games around the worl easily. But that was not the same situation for Civ Rev. That was my first dissapointment. I even blamed my internet connection and time setting (As I am playing form Turkey and time is GMT + 2) But later I understand that “check your internet connection” failure is not specific to me.

As I could not conect to multiplayer, I started to search for help on the net. 2Kforums and specially 2kElizabeth ‘s comments helped a lot. I understood that I were not the only person who could not join a game on the planet

After some patience still having some annoying warnings as:
“Looking for a game”
“Evaluating game”
And baaam .... “Check your internet connection!”
And you are out ...

I magically found a player for a friendly head to head game.

We started playing and some messages start to show up every turn as:

“xxx is resynchronising to the game”
“xxx is receiving resynchronization data”
“xxx has resynchronised to the game”
“Waiting for xxx”

Can someone explain, Is this because of internet connection quality or a bug?

Later my new friend just left the game.

So I search for a ranked game. And yes. At last I was 3rd player of a team-to team game. After some time 4th were ther and the game started. Everything was perfect. There were no delays. I really like the idea of players playing the turn at the same time and later waiting for the AI. This really gives the impression of playing real time. And after some strugggle (2,5-3 hours) I DragoS005 the emperror of Rome win the game with a glorious victory :D

Thank you every body for this great excitement ;)

Thanks Sid, Thanks Elizabeth, Thanks my gamemates: bencall, npe2007, punk1009

Hope to see you all again in another Civ Life.

Just do not forget to add my name to friends:

Yours,

PS: I am waiting for your first or exciting MP experiences.

My very first MP experience was on the demo. I played as the egyptians and he as the romans.

Having read about the romans being so incredibly great and all (and afraid he'd run over me), I rushed him using warriors and legions. He had little defense, and the game was over in 5 minutes.

Looking back at that, I guess he was just as inexperienced as me (if not more). He probably was just testing MP and Civ for the first time. So I came there and ruined the fun for him. I regret not playing a little more laid-back now.

Anyway, my first MP experience on the full game was on free-for-all using the germans. I entered a ranked match and it was up and running within 5 minutes (later I've realized how lucky that was). I sent out warriors on barbarian villages, and that sneaky mongol always attacked them after I'd gotten them down to one unit left. So I decided to rush him. I sent a warrior army to one of his villages, but alas, hesitated to attack it. I figured they should become legions first.

Problem was, I needed to leave and didn't have the time to play very much (which is why I probably shouldn't have played ranked). So two turns before my warriors became legions, I attacked. At that moment he had just gotten archers in that village (they had few bonuses), so I should have attacked earlier. Anyway, it still was 4.5 against 3.0 to my advantage. I lost.

It must then have seemed a little suspect that I left the game two turns later. But as mentioned, I didn't really have time to play any more.

The start seemed tight between me and the mongols (spain had already left and I don't know what the zulus was doing), so it'd been fun to see how it would have continued.

I was on the playstation 3 earlier today, after recieving my copy of civ rev. I played as Catherine the Great in the single player mode on King difficulty, and I completely destroyed everyone in about 2 and a half hours on domination. The tanks just completely kicked ass, although my fighter and bomber plane management was horrid. They all ran out of fuel and blew up because I was managing like 40 different army units and 8 cities and it was getting confusing :D

My second single player game was me using Cleopatra. Took me a little longer to win, but again, won on domination :)

Now after that, I went online, and I was disappointed. I was in a room with 4 guys at once, and no one would start the game. Then I left and was the third player in another team match, and we got in the game. Then it said the player was synchronizing data and it kicked us out. It even FROZE on me once(my PS3 has never frozen on me before this.) I finally found an online game, but the guy quit after 30 minutes. If anyone here is interested in an honest match that will sit there for 3 horus and play then PLEASE PM me and add my PSN - BS_NEWYORKSNIPE

Anyways overall it was a fun experience.

Now I'm gonna go and play some more, cya!

Only thing that I have to say, is "DAMN," lol :(.

I just got into my first online match in any Civ game, playing with (2k)Dawn no less. Everything was going good (was at war with Dawn and 2 AIs (:P))- I had captured one of Dawn's and an AI's city via culture, which Dawn would soon take from me by the way, when thirty minutes into the game the godforsaken power went out. Over the past two or three years, that's only happened once before. And instead of just letting me weep in the pitch black until I fell asleep, to add insult to injury, it came back on five minutes later!

Someone up there hates me, haha.

Nevertheless, I had a surprisingly good time while it lasted, as I admit I was a bit nervous about getting into online play with the Civ series, and thanks for the game.

Just got the game yesterday ( for xbox 360). So i create a private match for me and a friend with a timer. Everything seems good we pick our leaders and start the game. I think we just made it into AD and the game kinda freezes for a second and a message comes up saying you have lost connection to xbox live... I join back to the game and a few turns later same thing happens. Again I try to join back up and i get d/c'd again.

That was my first game experience... And every game so far for that matter. I haven't been able to complete 1 online game.

I haven't tryed ranked, but i got the game to play with friends and I haven't been able to finish a game so far.

I am disappointed with this game.

And just for the record I don't have any problems like this with other games.

I loved playing my first and only multi game last night. What sucked is everyone quit giving me my win (around the year 1900). I did conquer the AI nation, but, the game ended when the last guy left.
