difference between Ranked and Unraked Games.

Can you explain what is the difference between Ranked and Unraked games?
I never play the unranked because when you get in the room you need to wait until all 4 players get in the game, and sometimes, ppl get in and get bored waiting and then get out, before the game start, and you can not invite anyone, I think it's hard to get everybody to play a ranked game (I don't know if it's because I'm in Australia, and I can only play when I get back from the office it's a huge time zone from Europe and US, probably is still morning in this countries), but I would like to understand what is the difference. I think I may post a new thread about that.

Unranked: You probaly want to have fun and get better in Civ Rev
Ranked: You play serious and play to WIN!

I want to know how rank game work, How you earned points and why I'm playing on the ranked mode and my rank is not changing?
I have 1224 rank points, what that means how can I increase this point I have been playing in the ranked games and it is not changing, I have been winning all the games I played and it still not changing.

Can some one explain me how the points work?

Maybe it is because you are playing with some friends, it's the only reason i think, or it is a bug (I don't think, it is only for FFA, i have won for example 1-2 games but they didn't count)
