View Full Version : Domination in 2900? Seriously?

There are like 5 people who have domination wins in 2900BC on the current GOTW, chieftan difficulty.

11 turns? I'm racking my brain to see how this is possible.

On the Deity GOTW, the current leader is at 2000BC. His closest rival is in the 1800AD's.

A 20 turn Dom win, on Deity? Is the game broken?

If you start close to another civ, its easy to tkae them out. Especially with Zulu. You can create an army and overrun all barbarians to get upgrades and then just destroy the enemies. But I agree 20 turns seem very fast :) They must use some kind of 2 movement unit or building roads between the cities they have built.

In the current game of the week, you play as Athens.

And count again, 2900 BC is 11 turns. 11!

I'll have to check it out later, but I'm pretty sure some of the civs are more than 11 squares away. Even if every barb hut gave you a horesman army, it seems suspect.

I was referring to deity, you wrote it was 20 atm :P

P.S. - for those of you who don't have the full game... here is a map of the game of the week: http://www.civgameoftheweek.com/060708chieftain.gif

Note how far apart all the civs are. Even on chieftan, how could anyone possibly pull this off in 11 turns? I'm speechless.

Definitely cheating or a glitch in the GOTW system. There are no other possible explanations.

i will check on this for you guys. i already have an email in. however, last time we looked, there was not a way to cheat in GOTW.

i'm not saying there aren't some really sneaky tips and tricks to win quickly that we never dreamed of -- and i will check in to make sure everything is square and reporting is working properly -- but i know there are some really, really good players out there that can get very early wins!

Early is one thing, 11 turns is different. I got a 100BC win, just now, and I probably made about 50 mistakes, because I wasn't really trying. I can probably bring it down to 1000-500 BC, if I worked at it a lot.

But on this map, I can barely see how you could even send 1 warrior to all the civs within 11 turns. Gandhi is 13 squares away.

Sure, you could build a road, but it seems like on this map, all I get from huts are settlers. Okay, so I considered that as well, since settlers get two movement per turn, and I plopped a city down near most of my rivals with the hut settlers.

Does the reporting system send all their moves so that you can replay them? Obviously you're not going to tell us what's in the report, but it would ease my mind if at least I knew that 2k could review the games turn-for-turn.

I'm not going to go so far to say it's definitely cheating, and impossible, but it looks fishy. I've played a lot of civ4, and some folks do get some incredible times, so I know where you're coming from.

Oh, and don't forget, as Athens, you start with Democracy, so you have to waste a turn of production, or you can't even attack!

I have sent Remowilliams the solution to this weeks chieftain GOTW. There is NO Cheats or Glitches, It is 100% legit.

I can confirm that.

There isn't anything in the strategy that is even a tiny bit glitch-ish. No exploits, no special tricks. I got a victory on Chieftan in 2900AD, and it's too legit to quit.

It's definitely possible, and I know for sure, because now I've done it. That's all I can say, because Grumbles69 asked me not to, and I'm a man of my word.

I will say this, though... now I'm going to move up and try the higher levels on my own!

EDIT: Just saw Remo's post right after I posted my reply.

Now that you have confirmed it, I guess there is something that I probably did not see. I guess I won't find out unless I really try hard to find it myself, but all I know is that that is not the way I want to play Civ.

Suit yourself. I stand by what I said, there's nothing in the strat that is cheating, or anything that even remotely looks like cheating, or exploiting. Grumbles69 is simply a great player, just like Elizabeth said.

I am actually VERY HAPPY that it was not a glitch or a cheat. That means that there really are super crazy tactics out there. And THAT is what makes Civ games fun. Had you come back and said that it was all confirmed by yourself as nothing more than cheats and exploits, I would have been even more disappointed.

I only stated my preference in playing my Civ games a bit longer than finishing it in 11 turns, btw. It did not mean that I am not open to advices from other people. So I hope you did not take it the wrong way.

I also enjoy the longer games and I play them as well. But i just optimize domination for a good GOTW strat. By all means if someone can get economic victory faster than I can achieve domination then that would be top time. The game is not broken you need to work out a crazy strat to post those times, but long games are possible as well.

I am astonished but big congrats. I played the current map on Warlord then checked the scores and was very surprised. I could have done a little better even without a crazy strat so I'll try again tomorrow then a tougher difficulty.
