ok, i'm new to this forum and this is my first post, so a quick hello to everyone involved, hey!
My question is mainly to the 2k team, will the ps3 version be able to stand up next to the 360 version? the reason i ask is this, i have both consoles and did from day one on both however the ps3 has been a HUGE disappointment for me and any game that has been released on both consoles has been leaps and bounds better on the 360! dont get me wrong there is little doubt that i will get the ps3 version as this is my all time favorite game and in my opinion the greatest game ever made for a console (i say this due to little experience with pc titles) so am wonderin if it can really stand up? the only acception i found to the 'always get the xbox version' rule was, oblivion which was better on ps3, i always get both versions and return the ps3 one for a credit note at game station, i have a samsung 40" 1080p lcd so the comparrisons are easily made. Also the plasmid expansion pack... will it be available from the off on the ps3?

Im glad to see some one open to both views in the consol war, and Id like to see what you report about the PS3 version of this game VS the 360 version.
though I think sadly that the 2K team will work harder to improve bioshock standerds on PS3 since this is like geting extra time to work on the game disighn that they didnt have at the first reliece. this may make it an unfair comparison

well i for one would welcome any improvement made to the game however i feel 'improvents' as u call them could only really be aplied asthetically? i would assume that game play ect would all remain the same, and in my opinion thats all that matters really, i would happily sacrafice any level of asthetic for gameplay, look at gears of war that game sucked big time! it looked great but just lacked in all the important areas for me, the A button doing everything just killed it, in fact i could go on and on as to why that game was worst game of the year for me that year. As a 'gamer' i love games and feel they dont get the recognition they desurve i think they still (dispite the 18 cirtificates they offen get) appear juvanile to the mass public which is totally unfair as they are as much a work of art as film these days and should get similar recognition, i mean at one point the 2 will enevitable merge? films will basically be game design like the matrix in some respects where you can free roam and basically be the character and force the plot yourself but that will some time yet and thats another conversation all together. Anyway where was i? oh yeah i would definately appreciate the graphics getting tweaked just so it will give me something else on ps3 however dont get me wrong bioshock still is the best looking game ever on console, what was so great about bioshock though was MOOD theres justs something about the game thats hard to describe, it has a life of its own almost and the AI help create the illusion that this world really doesn't give a **** that i'm there sometimes as they have thier own problems which is the first time for me that i found myself stalking my pray alittle to get to know them as inderviduals instead of the usual 'look something moved lets go blast the hell out of it' ethos, the camera tool was a good touch as well makin us do reaserch on our enemies, in fact i could on and on and on for hours and have at lenth many time as to why this game was the absolute triumph that it was but i think i have wrote enough already here, 2K did a great job and if the extra time that they have with it allows them to tweak it to level they originally wanted and more then i will embrace it, i'm lookin forward to the ps3 version like you wouldn't believe :) i will give you my opinion on that when i can, thanks for the reply and your time. PSUDONYMOUS.
oh and will this version be 1080p? it kind of has to be i think but confermation would be appreciated. Thanks for the welcome duke. :)

Thing is, Rainbow Six Vegas supposedly was going to be better on PS3 because a dedicated team was working for a year to bring it to PS3. The game ended up a bit better on 360 even though the other version had a year of porting and polishing to PS3. I realize they are different teams, but games so far have turned up a little nicer on 360.

Thats only a minor game, and what you heard about it may have only been PR marketing. Games like GTAIV for example demonstrated that the PS3 is capable of greater things. Metal Gear Solid 4 then demonstrated that the 360 is completely last gen hardware, effectively sendin git to an early grave from a technical perspective. We will probably see a noticably better version of Bioshock on the PS3!

Don't think I am a 360 fanboy and attack me! I am looking to get a PS3 in coming months, but Rainbow Six Vegas was a major game that sold millions. GTAIV was near identicle on both consoles and ended up being sharper and more vibrant on 360, but with more pop-in. At least on 360 you don't have a hard-drive that is quickly being filled by game installations that can take up to 30 mins. (Devil May Cry 4) 360 has Mass Effect, Resident Evil 5 (on PS3 as well), and Gears of War 2. These games prove that is not "completely last gen hardware" and looking at Resident Evil 5, they have quite a bright future. And Gears of War 2 looks nowhere near last gen though it is not as good as RE5. Look at the multiplatform games history though.
PS3 versions of multiplatform games, in most circumstances, have had more issues than 360 versions. (Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero 3, The Orange Box, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, Condemned 2, Iron Man, Dark Sector, Army of Two, The Club, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit, Transformers, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Pirates of the Carribean, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, etc.)

I highly disagree that the 360 is last gen software and is in an early grave. Also are they going to do anything tot he PC version?

I highly disagree that the 360 is last gen software and is in an early grave.
Yeah 360 can play HD video content too, just off of digital downloads (from marketplace). So PS3, while it can play HD video content off of blu-ray, doesn't give it a longer life. I do think 360 will die out first, but only because it was developed sooner (older hardware), and blu-ray (which Microsoft said they will not be pursuing) holds about 3 times the amount of DVD's. So no early grave for 360, just not as late as PS3. I would expect to hear Microsoft go public about the next system in 2010 (they have mentioned that some brainstorming for a next console has occured, but nothing big or official). And Sony as late as 2011.
But hey, total speculation. I just don't think 360 is as close to death as some do. After all, if you have seen Resident Evil 5, which will appear on both 360 and PS3, you will see that they are both quite capable of greatness. Killzone 2 to me looks great, but the body shapes and such remind me of an 'over-buffed-Gears of War-style.' So right now Resident Evil 5 looks the best to me. (In terms of realism and engine quality)

It's probably also worth noting that the first wave of PS3 ports were quite literally the first time these developers have coded for that platform, so they won't know the best ways to use the hardware, hopefully 2K have hired some people that have some experience with PS3 development so I'm reasonably happy that the two games will be at the very least identical.

Well now that we know there is exclusive DLC on the PS3 version, I think it'll stand up quite nicely.

I think console feuds are silly and very immature. I do not own a PS3 nor a 360. I find the PC to be the best gaming system with the best graphics (I mean if you have a game machine). There is no point to fighting over which console is better because you cannot change the other person's mind. I will buy a console in the upcoming months (to save room on my computer) and it will be a 360. However, I am simply buying it because it's what I can afford.

??? But if you can afford to maintain and upgrade a gaming computer, then can't you afford a PS3 instead? It is $399.99 versus the 360's $349.99 (Pro). Not a huge difference.
Well, either way you should find joy. I prefer 360, but will be buying a PS3 soon for Blu-Ray. It really sucks with games compared to 360, except a few.

Well, actually the 360 pro just dropped to $299.99. But yeah, still not a huge difference when you consider the cost of computer parts. I'm going to be building a new computer in a month or two and just the Video card is gonna cost me $250.

Yes, I am aware of this (but it is $299 actually). However, once again I have no favs, my friends are on xbox live, and I would feel very left out playing by myself. I am only getting a 360 so I can play LIVE with friends. I know PS3 has it, but none of my buds at work have one.

Actually I read on Joystiq/PS3Fanboy that the PS3 version just seems to look identical. Until the devs say or we get our hands on the game, I'm going to say at best it's equal to the 360/PC version in everyway except for the bonus content. Thats not a bad thing, however it would've been a bonus for PS3 owners. The other side of the arguement would be that not only would the PS3 have gotten extra content but a better looking game and send many into hysteria. Nothing wrong wit that since may devs give PS3 inferior ports of 360 games so PS3 owners could've had something else to be glad about.

I'm hoping that it lives up to the 360 version and I get the extra stuff that I've been salivating over since the announcement. I think 2k will do an awesome job porting it over and polishing it up. One of the nice things about the current batch of consoles is the ability to patch the game if anything slips through. (Yes pc people I know you've had that for a while :p ) So I think whatever happens we'll end up with more Bioshock lovin' to enjoy.

See post above. That is being discontinued for a different version, hence the price drop while supplies last.

I think another post in another topic said it was confirmed to be equal and that its shining gems are the DLC and the new opening movie.

The only way we'll know if its better is when it comes out. It may look the same now but it can be polished by October no problem. I own an Xbox 360 but personally think that the PS3 version will look better. They've had a lot more time to work glitches out of it's system. So I wish PS3 owners all the best when the game comes out.

That's a great attitude, Atlas-Puppet. :D
An extra year (or 15 months) is astronomical in game development terms. I'd be shocked if it didn't look at least a little better. Programmers are learning new tricks and new ways to optimize every day.
I've mentioned it in other threads, but it bears repeating. Lets say you are a new gamer who gets an 360 and a PS3 for Christmas this year (lucky you!). And your friends have all told you to buy BioShock. You go to the store and see 2 copies side-by-side: a 360 version for $30 and a PS3 version for $60. Wouldn't you expect the PS3 version to have some improvements based on the price alone?
Food for thought....

Well 2K did say that the cinematics will have improved quality because they are no longer supercompressed since they have some more space on blu-ray. So that is good. As for gameplay...
Yeah, I would expect some visual improvement, but I don't think it'll be real noticeable unless they are compared more side-by-side. The new opening movie, faster in-game load times, and DLC on the other hand should surely put it ahead as the better version of the game. I wish PS3 owners the best as well, and plan to buy a PS3 myself soon. I can't miss any BioShock content now can I? Plus Blu-Ray is beautiful. But for now I am confined to 360.

There will be no chages, well maybe. But that is what I would like to call a "PSuckup" site. Obviously there going to say it is better on the PS3, because those ppl on that website are the same ppl that say NES graphics are better then the 360 (which isn't true). The only difference in both systems is the 360's graphics are a tad lighter.
As I said before I do not own any of the systems, but I will be picking up an xbox 360 on Sunday.

I've got a good feeling about this one. Some of the other multiplatform ports from earlier in the life cycle of the ps3 had some pretty significant issues but I believe 2k is as aware of that as well and will deliver a solid redux.

Yeah, the PS3's history with both ports and multiplatform titles makes me super skeptical. It does not encourage whatsoever. I was checking some comparisons, and I think I found 5 or 6 games that were considered better on PS3, several were equal, but about 75% were considered better on 360.
However, I too have faith in 2K, and I trust them as a developer more than any other. So here's to a good future with BioShock. I am excited to hear more on BioShock PS3.

that's true. i've got the 8o gb as well and i'm down to around 50 gb already and i got it dec. 26th, 2007. i actually wouldn't mind a little loading time if it meant saving my hard drive for the long run

I always thought it was funny when some other PS3 owners say that the lower end PS3 model has a bigger hard drive than the lower end 360. The PS3 sucks up memory way faster with the installations. Nothing to brag about there. Luckily, it does decrease the load times. SONY just chose to put a damn slow 2x drive in the PS3.
I still think BioShock PS3 will be the more advanced version though.

What we can brag about though is that we can change our hard drives for whatever size we want and are not limited to what Microsoft say we can have and don't have to pay the £££ that Microsoft want to charge!
My PS3 currently has a lovely 320GB hard drive in it and it cost £59 :) I was going to bite the bullet and get 500GB but the 500GB hard drives are still quite expensive.
Reduced loading times will be worth it in my opinion. Games that have installs that reduced loading times can always be deleted when you finish playing a game.

Yeah that is a definite advantage. I was just more specifically referring to people with 40 and even 80GB hard drives forgetting how much space they drain with installations.
I hate installations, but decreased load times is always welcomed.

I am not too thrilled with how the games I have purchased for my ps3 have already eaten into my 80 gig hd less than a month after purchase. I understand the concept of installation to reduce load times but the degree that it is being used is ridiculous. Blu ray definitely has its draw backs.
