I thought you guys would like this, especially considering how hard it is to get those pesky last one or two great people at the end of your quest for all achievements. I spent two days frustrated to death because I could not get the last two I needed to pop, and then I figured out the method shown in the video. Considering how hard it is to get these great people, this should make it much easier for all of you.

Sorry for the stuffy sounding voice and goofs while talking here and there, I recorded this in one take very late at night and was completely zonked out. :)
Edit : Whoops, thought I posted this in the in-game discussion forum, unless a mod moved it out here?
I've tried this yesterday and I tried this today, the game keeps on avoiding the last great person. It's the sixth explorer :o
Good tactic though, works for winning cultural/economic and sometimes even domination(time) in all difficulties as well. :D

Just keep restarting it, you'll get the great person pretty quickly. If you follow the instructions just as they are in the video, you should be able to get at least 10 great people within 10-15 minutes. If you don't see the one you want by then, you can just restart the process.

Yeah, I know. But that didn't really work, I kept getting the same people in each game (not all of them but more than 50%), even whilst using different civilizations.:o

That is very strange. I did this at least 4 times while testing it for the video to make sure they weren't repeating, and I typically was getting different people each time. Sure, you'll see a repeat once in awhile, but they shouldn't be constant every game. Sounds like you're just having extremely bad luck. :)

or you can just do the rome stratagy and make 3-5 cities 31 population and get 300 culture a turn by 500 AD...

Did you see how many great people I had in just those couple of minutes? This is a heck of a lot faster. I had done the Rome thing twice in the past few days trying to get my last great people, and it was just too much work just for that achievement. This method requires minimal effort, no real city development, no tech research, or anything else really. You just sit back and farm the great people.

IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN, GRR. NOW THE GAME IS FROZEN TOO. =(
I got like... everyone except him. I've gotten Tippu Sultan first three times in a row now, is he supposed to be tied to 100GOLD?

I didn't get him this round either, I'm starting to think that my game hates me.

That's not cheating, but i don't like cheating in some cases. Only to do more victories if i need sometimes, i save and reload, it is only because you couldn't continue with more victories and i don't want to restart each time.. Whatever i had all great people playing standard games, but playing so to take all is not so good to see.. I prefer playing some games to take all.

I had beaten the game every which way possible, with all civs, all victory modes, all other challenges like one city victory (which I literally only had one city!), 200 productivity, etc. The issue with the great people achievement however is that you're the victim of chance. It's not fun for me to be forced to play through the single player over and over again when I'd rather focus on multiplayer now.
You can't get achievements from multi, so you're either forced to keep taking a chance to get the great person you want, or do something like the method I made.
Also, it's not a cheat, it's just utilizing one of the scenarios in the best way possible. Had this not been about chance, it'd be a different story. I earned all of the other achievements without using scenarios or speeding through them. Since this was about chance though, I gave up after two full days of trying. No regrets for making / using this method here though. I felt it was necessary to maintain the fun factor for me. :)

CHANCE IS PART OF THE GAME. LUCK IS PART OF THE GAME It doesn't matter if you beat the game in every possible way. That doesn't make what you done morally right.

So you would have rather had me conquer entire civilizations by force, potentially even by nuking an entire city off the map in the process? That'd be more of a morally correct way of earning great people, right? ;)
We're talking about a video game here, and 45 artificial gamer points. I've seen posts all over the place where people were complaining about being unable to get their last one or two great people. I'm saving them some of the frustration, which should help them enjoy the game more in the long run.
No need to argue about this though, I appreciate your input but I think this video will do more good than harm, at least for the community and their enjoyment of the game. :)

Can we stop with the morally correct shenanigans? Let people play how they want to play. Stop harassing them about it. If I want to reload my map each time because I don't like my starting conditions than so be it. I know I'll enjoy the remainder of the game more if I like my starting spot. Isn't the point of games to find enjoyment from them? Do whatever it takes to make the game fun and don't let people tell you otherwise.
