Game is great, but I do have some problems with it... maybe I just misunderstood something cause I'm very new to the series. I've got the full version so that isn't the problem.

1. The computer can be extremely predictable in very stupid ways. When I expand at the beginning at some point pretty much all - I think all - enemy factions will start threatening me, effectively ripping me off or actually going to war with me. This happens VERY fast I think. You can go from having no enemies to basically battling on all fronts with all factions in a matter of a few turns, which is just overwhelming.

2. What's even more problematic is that they are oblivous to eachother's existance... or maybe they aren't, cause they will form alliances early on I think, but they just don't care if say the French get extremely strong. My last game the French were heading for victory via technology AND culture while I was trying for domination. The French were closer to victory, yet every single other faction were bashing me. I just don't get it. I had only been aggressive towards the Greeks which were behind me on the same peninsula as I.

3. Again with the predictability. When I was all but wiped out suddenly every single faction wanted peace with me. Hurray, I thought, now I can get in the game. Well you do get a few turns of peace, but when I reached what I guess is a predetermined number of cities they all attacked me again. It's like you can be sure of it. I researched technology heavily and came up with tanks which helped me push enemies back but only until they got the same units and I was stalled. I couldn't come any further as all cities were defended with the same units as mine.

4. Related to 3. Is it just me or do the dices that decide the outcome of battle roll against you in the late gameplay? I was stunned at the number of times I lost to an inferior army which was even technologically behind? I mean sure realistically when you get tanks they would just roll into any city that isn't past riflemen, so maybe that wouldn't work, but my tank should ALWAYS win against a couple of catapults out in the open? I mean seriously that ruined the immersion a bit for me.Whether I was unlucky or not, the outcomes of the battles are decided far too much by chance imo. They also noted this in the eurogamer review below a picture.

If this is just plain wrong/stupid please tell me what I'm doing wrong/not understanding. I'm new to the series so I might not understand fully.

I realize I'm sounding very negative, but actually this game is awesome in so many ways. I'm reviewing it and was thinking about a 9, but the above problems seem to ruin it for me... so therefore I hope you have some useful comments to make. As you can see, some of the above problems should be eliminated by playing against other people instead of the computer, so I'm looking forward to that :-)

1. When it comes to the AI you can always try the "you will have to be satisfied with X tech"

2. Many AI are not very expansive so I agree with you. I dislike that kind of stuff because if they dont know about the other AI you cant discuss it with him.

3. I think it rather was like that that they had to fight someone else and didnt want to mess with you. Then you came up with the tanks and you were considered a threat again.

4. I totally agree with you, but the only answer we got from an official person was "but then it wouldnt be Civ", which is a plain stupid argument in my opinion.

Yes but what's really bothering me is that I feel like I have no room to expand or do anything - they will just gang up on me. There no middle ground. Seeing as people are actually able to handle deity difficulty I guess I'm missing something... Because I'm only playing on King.

Is there any way to play this game where you won't be the target of every other civ. and they will actually make moves on eachother instead of just you?

I think if you build 20 armies of warriors and you are in the modern era they won't attack you. It's an example (:D); whatever i think they only see your army, if you have a lot of units they don't attack you, if not, they would to kill you. Make armies is the only way i think, build some and expand, i think they won't kill you using this way. Whatever in King or more you have to kill someone or blocking at least one

My tip for King is to make an army rather fast and try to take one capitol. You want to hurry before they get Bronze Working. And it usually doesnt work against Alexander as he has his pikemen, but he might not build them.

As a general tip you should build armies. The more armies you have the less he would want to fight you. If you really dislike it maybe you should go for making the great wall? Then they cant declare war with you until Engineering is researched by them.

You could also build temples and try and convert his cities. It all depends on what you want to do. Also create spies and steal great persons and destroy annoying buildings.

Thanks! That helped too...

I still think its stupid that all enemy civs tend to focus on you, but I guess that's just the way it is

The last one i did in the demo and i was like WTF?I was playing an online opponent and he basically said he was gonna dominate me.We started Civs directly next to each other and fought over a stupid farm next to a mountain. The mountain had no strategical importance, but in a way it did.It prevented flanking untill i found a way around it,And by then i built a temple, converted his civ to me,basically won the game but got attacked by him and won.

i was playing on deity earlier today and i tried something that actually worked pretty good at keeping the other ai civs from all ganging up on me. what i did was build a bunch of caravans(i think if you build an army of caravans the ai can only get 50 gold max and you get 3 times what you would normally get using just 1 caravan so it stops the ai from making that much money from your caravans) and just send them to the farthest city which got me alot of gold which i used to bribe other civs into attacking each other. I actually had civs ask me to join them in their wars against other ai civs. i actually ended up losing because japan just dominated the other civs and beat me because i ran out of time:mad:

I had #3 happen to me last night. Germany and Rome kept sending army after army at me (which I pummeled with catapults every time, they literally send about 40-50 armies) while the Arabs expanded all over the place. I was behind in tech (somehow even though i discovered every artifact) and in economy and yet they all felt the need to pummel me into the ground while the Arabs took over the world. Made no sense to me.

if you think about it the AI is doing what it was made to do. as the world hates on you because your trying to win by some way or another, but in the back ground lets say the arabs or germany is more or less taking over the whole world! isn't that how today is, the whole world is looking at iran because they are the bad guys (just like you are in the game), so everyone tells everyone else about you, and therefore the whole world wants you dead. its the perfect cover for any one country to act like the peace country, or the country that made you/iran public more or less takes over. its politics. wouldnt you do what that one country is doing in the back ground, while every other civ is beating down the evil enemy, wouldnt' you build you cities greater and larger and more powerfull than all the others. then after the enemy is defeated you get to do what you please. because you have the power, the tech, the gold, and the position! then global domination is that much easier.

I would.
