Hi there,
I've been trying for a while to get the 200 resource achievement (xbox360 platform) and struggling to get this completed.... any ideas??
Most times I've tried Americans (factories triple production) and built a city in the middle of a mountain range... now with all upgrades to the city and a 31 population I can only manage about 180 ish....
It would take I guess around 12 odd mountains to do the achievement but can seem to find any spots where this is possible....

I don't know what the achievement is, but if you can get gold and food, just build a city surrounded mostly if not all by water. build a market, then a bank, then a harbor (for food resource on all the gold tiles) and then any trade/gold helping wonders. Have another city build the wonder that comes from navigation so each sea tile gives 3 gold instead of 2. And settle a gold bringing great person.
If it's just production, look for oak trees. Also, make sure to get all the techs that five production to all cities for researching first.

The achievement is "simply" production... and it is damn hard to do in my opinion....
If you use just trees (+2 prod)
20 tiles surrounding base (with courthouse obv) = 40 prod
now assuming you can find a massive forest to fill the entire grid that would still after factory multiplier only give you 80 production. (120 if american in modern, and 120 using german + 1 ability)
That still leaves you a massive 80 short before considering tech bonuses and surplus population workers in the city....
I can't see any other way than to use a huge mountain range (+5 with iron mine)
The ideas are there I've just not had the map to do it yet

I did this recently, can't remember with who though, I think it was the Spanish. I had one city surrounded by mountains (looked like a horseshoe), and some trees on the outskirts. By the end of the game, I was pushing out 140 production or so. I then switched to communism and got the achievement. Remember, Communism = 50% production.
Also, the Future Tech technologies give you a boost in production every 3-4 times you research it. Give it a shot. :)

well a Factory+Communism Combined gives x3
so
you need 67 base production
if you have the full 31 pop every unit can make at least 1
so
36 from terrain bonuses
+1 from Forest
+2 from Hills
+4 from Mountains
+Resource bonuses (-1 if a terrain that isn't normally productive)
and this is among 20 tiles
so
9 mountains is the most compact (ignoring bonuses)
18 hills
It definitely requires a special city, but is definitely doable

Take Lincoln, you need less than those things Krikkitone has said.
Communism + Factory and about 3 mountains, 3 forests, 3 ills, 25-26 pop. (31 it's better whatever), and it will be easy.. You don't need a lot, only take a special city or a capital having about these things (more mountains is better whatever, but you need at least 2 forests for the start)

Ahhh, remember, don't change the production if you have more than 200.. Don't move NOTHING or, also if you are moving in custom, the AI of your city will stop a part of your production, i don't know if it is a bug.. I haven't seen it.. Whatever be careful for that

The tips here are valid, migrate people and put them in a city surrounded by a lot of mountains.
You want to do this as well:
Play as Mongolians, they have +2 production in mountain areas later in the game.
Build an Iron Mine, I think it gives you +2 production from mountains.
Remember these +4 production will then be the basis for the factory and communism addition, not an addition after those bonuses are applied.
And with a courthouse, factory and communism you will be producing a lot of hammers.

actually Iron Mine is +4 (making mountains 5 for most 7 for mongols)
