View Full Version : Stupid things you've done in CivRev

I'm a newcomer to Civ having only dabbled in the very first one many years ago, so am not too familiar with some of the strategies and rules.

Thought I'd start a discussion on stupid things we've all done, before having a "D'oh!" moment...

After spending around 20 to 30 turns of endless attacks, finally realising that a flying unit can't capture a city. D'oh!
Not realising that for Domination victories you only have to destroy the capital cities, not the entire civilisations! D'oh!
Not realising that Production was not a total for your Civ, but per city, and accidentally starting off the United Nations in my worst producing city. "United Nations will be ready in 57 turns" D'oh!

That'll do for now (although there are plenty more)...

Planting my capital with no grassland next to it so it couldn't grow....

if i hadn't got lucky and converted someone elses settlers early on to save the day, the game would of been over after that first move

Sometimes I leave settlers, caravan, spies, and even my cities un-protected just to expoler the region and find plains, forest, etc. I even spend my gold sometimes to build a $200+ road to reach another city thats far away from the other cities, and sometimes it cuts through another civilization territory where it won't allow me to pass. Unless I break our peace treaty.

All senarios have Chuck Norris coming out the victor. Not even the nuke could get rid of that guy.

i was playing multyplayer in the demo for the PS3 ,it was early in the game i sent a gelley at the knights temple to get a veteran knight unit , next i went to lay seige with the kinght and a leagion army to the other egyptinas, i destoyed his weak defences , but didint take over his only city, i was playing with him he was building hes defences i kept destoying them , my knight got like 5 upgrades, i was experimenting to see if my knight would get to the maximum number of upgrades i believe thats up to 6 upgrades per unit, i anyways i can hardly wait til july 8th to get the full game.

i have one i did last weekend.

on deity, engaged in a one-city challenge, going for economic victory. switched to world bank, 4 turns to make it. all civs are attacking me, and germany was halfway to alpha centauri, so i'd win by just a turn or two.

...and then i switch off WB and make a bomber.

this is what you get for playing civ at 2 am without enough sleep. ;)

playing deity for the tech challenge, computer was about 3 turns away from reaching alpha centauri with me a couple behind.... tasked to destroy the capital I rushed the backend of the manhattan project and somehow switched it to create about 40 infantry units instead....
this lead to me losing as I couldn't break the defence in two turns, whereas with the bomb could have just walked straight in.....

spent a good two hours on that game! gutted

In Demo, going for Econ victory prior to 1000 AD. I had the required gold and I was building the World Bank in Rome. I had a great builder but he wouldn't rush production for some reason. Then I remember that about ten turns earlier I had accidentally used (er, wasted) another Great Builder for a building in Rome which, of course, I had already rushed with gold (Doh #1), so now I couldn't use the Great Builder in Rome to speed the World Bank (Doh #2). Only after the Demo ended (1 turn from econ win) did it occur to me that I didn't need to build the World Bank in the Capital and that the Great Builder could have been sent to any other city and would have won the game (Doh #3).

And that is why you won't see me playing multi-player any time soon.

I have tried it and the great builder can't rush the world bank, all say that he rush but i don't believe that.. I will try, but in my opinion it doesn't work whatever

I think what you say is true, since you cannot rush it with money at least. Had 30k and 1 turn left and couldnt rush the world bank. I think its good, people should have a chance to stop him by sending spies for example.
