How much am I loving this game. Nice work to all concerned.

Questions though about Diplomacy, similar-ish ones

1, Germany declared war on me. I started kicking their arses all round the world and wanted to offer peace in return for gold/technology. Is this possible?

2, I just want to randomly threaten another Civ that I'm going to rain bloody war all over them unless they give me stuff. Is this possible?

Seems that whenever I hit the right bumper and select a civ, they threaten me and I don't get a chance to threaten them back.

Yes it would be a nice option to do that right off, but it's not. You have to earn a greevance with them, no matter if they threaten you right from the begining.
This means that you have to take 1 or 2 or even more cities from them to reach a point where they pay you technologies or gold to stop the war.

But is it worth it? By the time players have a large enough army and a high enough tech level and are winning a war, the computer is far behind and hasn't any tech to offer and their gold is depleted from the war. It is more possible at the early stages of the game where there isn't a big difference in tech levels, but gold is still low.

Maybe if you attacked no2 in tech level you might have a chance for a tech payment, but as for gold, I haven't seen a bid more than 25 gold in all the games I've played.
