Are characters in the game are based off real people? I heard Salvador Dali is identical to Sander Cohen [and I can see a resemblence :O].. And I saw a lady who looked identical to Tenenbaum some time ago..
So how about we make a game outta this? :D Finding pictures of people that are identical to the BioShock characters?
Just for off-topicness fun:
Does anybody feel that BioShock is easy, even on Hard?

The characters and Ideals are based off those of Ayn Rands literature, A few popular books are atlas shrugs, The Fountainhead, and the anthem

To BlacquePhalcon: I've heard of that and... Daah, I already know! >_<;; I heard that Hank Rearden from Atlas Shrugged is supposed to be Jack's origin character... I see no resemblence.. No wait, that was blow outta the water. Nevermind.

No, she died of kidney failure I believe. At least that's what my father told me when we got the phone call that she had died. It made me very sad. To the rest of the world she was a hard ass actress that didn't want anything to do with anyone, but to my sister and I she was the sweet lady who TRIED to bake cookies herself when my father and we visited her (she was actually a good cook, but only cooked herself for friends. She always tried to bake cookies for us, but we always got so busy playing cards together that she almost ALWAYS burned them. To this day I miss those burnt cookies.. )
She and my father worked together at some of the studios and movie companies so we would see or hear from her every once in awhile. She loved to call people all the time, and it wasn't unusual to be woken up at 3:00 in the morning by a phone call from her wondering how we were. This was upsetting at times, since there were some times I got calls from her while I was traveling in odd places, and I thought no one in the world knew where I was, much less the phone number.
I miss her. She was one of those people who were taught as a child that to "show" kindness might make you look weak, so you shouldn't ever show it, but DO it secretly if you must. And that's what she did. She couldn't bear to be thought of as weak, so she helped thousands of people, but secretly. It's sad really, very sad. She should be known for that, instead of that stupid "I want to be left alone" line.
I'm sorry, but like I said, I miss her.. I'll try and shut up now..
Wow. I just realized. Bobby Darin AND Marlene Dietrich. Who the hell else is it going to turn out that I knew that fits with this game? Unbelievable... (And I bet that's what most of you are saying. I don't blame you.. I sound like a hell of a liar..)

Yeah, Ryan looks like my father did too, but to be honest that wasn't odd at that time. A lot of men looked like that to tell the truth. (Honestly, the first time I saw Ryan I whimpered to myself "Daddy?". Couldn't help myself..) Gable, Powell, Flynn, Disney,Ford, Hughes, (Who, I believe, is the person 2k is actually using as a base for Ryan) all of them had the same hair and face hair style.

BucketBot, I hate to admit it, but I had to look it up. And I also hate to admit it since it makes me admit I'm an old man, but I've done that before: 37. It was in 1992, a few months before my birthday (I remember now being sad we wouldn't have dinner together for it). That's why it still hurts, it wasn't that long ago..

You're hardly old, Katfather. George Carlin just died a week ago or so and when I say that he died fairly young people look at me like I'm crazy and say, "Wasn't he 70-something?" Yeah, he was 70-something! And that's not old. My dad is in his 70s and he's still as vigorous as ever. When I'm 70 I don't plan on being old either.

6 degress. One way or another we all know someone famous, or someone who will be famous. I was lucky(?); I had a father that worked in and owned a lot of Hollywood, Washington, and London. I also traveled a lot with my uncle who was a reporter for CBS News. Lived in a lot of hotel rooms because of it, and had no life time friends. Still not sure it was worth it..
But to get back to the thread subject, how many people reading agree with my idea about Andrew Ryan being Howard Hughes?

I just want to stop and say a little something that has to do with where the ideas come from for characters in a story, play or game, and in doing so, I'm going to tell you a great secret that I was reminded of today.
I had to do a book signing today in Tokyo. Now it wasn't too bad, since I AM a ego maniac and love people knowing me OUTSIDE this forum, so, even though I was suffering a little from crowded bullet trains, jet lag, and meals made out of things that scared the hell out of me, I was enjoying myself..until THE QUESTION came up.
Here's the secret that authors won't say anything about. The Question. The Question drives us crazy. The Question makes so angry most of the time that we want to take those smiling wonderful fans and pound them thin enough to fit between the pages of our books, shut and tape up the book, then flush it down the toilet. The question? " Who did you base your characters on?"
Now most of the time we'll smile sweetly and say something like " Oh, they're a mix of many different people in the news lately" but that's not what we want to do or say. What we want to do is grab them by the neck and scream in their face " God damn it! I spent months inventing these people!! They were nowhere until I thought of them, and they were nothing until I wrote them down and gave them life!! Nothing, do you hear me!! Nothing!! Nothing! Nothing! They came from nowhere but my heart and soul! Mine damn it! Mine mine mine! I don't care if it's like someone you know in your pitiable life! What, you don't think I'm smart enough to do that? Damn you! Damn you all to hell! Bastard!"
But of course, we don't do that..most of the time (it's amazing what you do when you take too many pain pills. I may never be allowed in Chicago again).
So remember folks, sometimes a story or character isn't based on anything but an authors own dreams. And the fact that two or more people have the same idea isn't really too odd when you realize that most of us have two arms and legs, look at the same moon and stars at night, and sometimes, sometimes, have the same dreams...

Just making a point. Sometimes a work has nothing to do with a work everyone knows. Authors don't read EVERYthing; they're too busy trying to write something themselves sometimes.
Ha! let me give you a good example: Stan Lee and Jack Kirby of Marvel Comics used to get letters all the time by students saying that they were writing papers on the influences the ancient gods or cults had on their writings of their comic "Dr. Strange", and they wanted more detail on where and how Lee and Kirby had done their research. The problem was (as Lee once told me himself at a comicon { I was just there for...ah..research, yeah, research}, the only place Lee and Kirby used to get their "research " was the Phonebooks for names, and things they had seen people do and say on the streets of New York! So, to keep the students happy (hey, they bought the books) they would tell the students that they weren't sure WHERE they got the names from, but thought it was some buried memory of things learned in school. (I was one of those students. After getting a letter back from Stan with an answer like that, I wrote a paper "proving" that one of the monsters that threatened to eat up the Earth in the comic was based on the Norse myth monster the Midgard Serpent. Many years later Lee confessed he remembered that letter, and the monster was actually based on someone he saw each day at lunch who always ate 2 pizzas. Oh well, what the hell.. I got an A anyway..)
Of course, all I've written so far is to make you think. Maybe..maybe not.
For fun, let's go with the maybe:
I still think Andrew Ryan is Howard Hughes. What do you think of Brando as Fontaine? It fits in an way; Brando played many parts. He even once played a Japanese man.. (Wait a moment.. for some reason that sounds familiar..)

I already put this on another thread, but I thought it might be fun to reprint it here with notes at the end explaining where I got the pictures:
Once again I ask you to forgive me for putting these here, but when I found them I couldn't resist putting them SOMEWHERE!
Once again your fearless reporter has traveled two worlds to give Rapture news, but this time in Rapture TV history!
First, what TV viewer could forget that night on the TV show "I've got a Dandy secret!!" a guest told all of Rapture this dandy secret:
http://shutter09.pictures.aol.com/data/pictures/28/001/77/AE/29/6A/En99tmjUGpTgQYrCpbHOvXdy6PhE47Ll0300.jpg
I was going to interview him to see how his life changed after that show, but oddly enough he disappeared not too long after the show aired..
All of us remember New Years night 1959, but how many of us remember the fun of that night on TV? Do you remember "What's my role in Rapture "? that night? Who could forget?
http://shutter08.pictures.aol.com/data/pictures/25/002/6F/FE/D2/F0/PL6Yumzbp2jXXl34LUGVec0X4n24PkFX0300.jpg
Certainly not Sander Cohen! Little did he know that in a surprise move by the directors of the game show Anna Culpepper had also been invited!
http://shutter06.pictures.aol.com/data/pictures/24/002/57/D8/45/5E/BjbbM4z2iHyB7KBk7bsYyZ1F15Kp7kUL0300.jpg
Again and again dear Anna beat Sander to the punch on guessing the contestant's role in Rapture, thereby winning the game in a total shutout against Sander and his other teammates, and Sander, great actor that he is, swore revenge against Anna and the two directors, Silas Cobb and Martin Finnegan live on tv! But of course, he was just joking! That Sander!
What a ham!
http://shutter10.pictures.aol.com/data/pictures/27/002/7F/30/96/BF/WD2nd8UwX95FNks9Zjw0jqR7arOqm1xj0300.jpg
Well, that's TV history for now! See you you next time with the news!! (I hope).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, the man in the first photo was the son of Frank Fontaine. The real Frank Fontaine was a great singer and a very funny actor. His greatest claim to fame was as a funny drunk on the " Jackie Gleason". I used to watch him each week and I, like millions of others, thought he was the best part of the show..
The photo comes from the show "I've got a secret", I think in 1967.
The next three photos come from an Easter showing of the hit show "What's my line?" in 1954. The masks being worn are actually blindfolds, worn when a famous guest comes on and they have to guess who it is. The masks are usually just black blindfolds, but for that holiday it was bunny masks. "Anna Culpepper" is actually the newspaper writer Dorothy Kilgallen, and "Sander Cohen" is actually Bennett Cerf, publisher and writer (by the way, he wasn't mad at anything in the photo. He's actually laughing at a joke.)
Hope you enjoyed this..

Hrmph.. ::low grumble:: ........BRILLIANT! ::spits out toothpick!:: Picture #1 and #2 are winners in my book! :D !! The little girl look bored out of 'er mind and the cat just somehow adds humor to the picture, like watching good ol' fashioned telly from the more laid back, innocent days is boring! C'MON! I used to hate everything and anything that was in black and white on the TV screen when younger.. but I dun anymore!
Picture #2 was the one that really got me laughing. :9 And yes, I read the captions but picture books/posts are still nice.

To be honest, I still hate black and white. Hated it when I was a kid, and still hate it when I watch old shows. The Universe is in color, and when it's beauty is purposely torn away it's like a form of rape. Yes, I hate Adams photos, and you wouldn't believe all the hate mail I've sent to Nasa and ESA for releasing boring black and white photos of a colorful exciting Solor System.
Sorry, but I think black and white movies made now are stupid. You may as well use cardboard cutouts for the background if you're going to do that..
I just did it in black and white because I'm a history freak, and all newspapers photos were black and white then..

Mmmm. I KNOW that face but can't place it (My first words each morning looking at the mirror).
Who is that? (My second words each Saturday morning looking at the mirror).
Those must be some parties..
'Tis be John Waters! Think I got this idea off the BioShock movie cast thread... But him as Sander Cohen would be pretty scary. D8

"'Tis be" ? SCA? (but it's nice to see it used again.. I hate to admit it, but I don't know who Waters is).

::arches eyebrow:: SCA? Society of Creative An... Ana... Anar... ::gets her dictionary out:: What the hell is that word..? Anachronism? Naah, I'm not big into the 17th century.
Not a lot of people do. Found the guy by accident.

Hmm, Ryan strikes me as more of a Howard Hughes type:

Yep, that's what I've been saying all along..HH fits real well.. Genius, selfish and a little mad..
Oh GOD's Sake! I remember Waters! (Now..) I just didn't recognize him looking alive! Nowadays he looks like a zombie..
I THINK I remember seeing him when I was training to be a "best boy" (stupid idea), but I thought it was just someone pretending to be Vincent Price badly, so I'm not sure if it was him or not..
Oh yes, Waters.. but he's more BEHIND the camera (and other persons and things) than in front of it. He's the modern "Ed Wood", the only difference being he actually got one good hit: "Hairspray".
John Waters as Andrew Ryan? Nope, sorry. Sander Cohen? Oh dear Goddess in Heaven, YES! Mind, body and soul...or lack there of..

Since a thread back in the General Game Discussion has been brought up and Katfather mentioned this thread, I definitely see the resemblence between Tenenbaum and Gillian Anderson too! :D!! Or Geraldine Fritzgerald.. >_>;;
