If you notice, when you enter a goody hut you'll pretty much always get a technology, so what you should do is save before you get the hut, let the current technology you are researching complete ti's researching, then select the tech that says it'll take the MOST number of turns to complete. Now get the goody hut and you'll learn that technology, and that'll mean you'll pretty much get the tech of your choice. You should and can do the same with Great Scientists - use them to further your techs by changing to the most breaker demanding tech before using them.
This is how I learnt Atomic Theory even though it would have taken me 30+ turns otherwise... It's a great way to get to the space age as well ;)

Yes, that trick works, but depends on what Civilization you use. I only have the demo, but I found that the Egyptions will learn the new tech, or get settlers. But the Romans will get most of the time a caravan.

I also do this with great engineers, I switch the current building construction to the best wonder avaliable and instand build it.

I'd suggest settling the great engineers rather than using them to be honest. I find that to be more beneficial.
As for Romans getting a caravan, I've always found that whatever civ I use, if I find a hut it'll contain a tech and nothing else.

Yeah Settling them is much more beneficial but I was playing my new favorite game, kidnaping great people. I had so many I could not settle them anymore.

Yeah I'm still finding myself not kidnapping them, instead just taking over their cities... but I guess I should have done that when I played as the English and couldn't make a big dent on the Russians.

Do you think that Hut rewards culd be based on how you play? Because I almost never get tech and get caravans way too much. Perhaps it rewards you with something to help out where you are doing the worst? Or best?

Try using the Egyptions, rather then the Romans and see how differnt it plays. I aswell only have the demo (PS3).
I find the Egyptions have a better advantage in the demo, other then almost being seculeded in your region, because of the Greeks. I can almost descover everything with the Egyptions, not with the Romans. But that's just the demo restrictions I guess.

I always seem to get spies with nearly every civ. The exception was India where I got settlers, lots of them. I've never got one outside of that game.

Hmmm I've constantly got tech, hell I even planned what tech I got with the above strategy the other day... I'll need to try some more when I'm back home.

I've gotten a mix of everything everyone els has mentioned. Seems really strange, you'd have thought they'd just randomate the reward, but seemingly not if some people are getting the same thing every time...

Kind of connected to this is the Atlantis research boost. Discover Atlantis and get three techs instantly. But they seem to be the cheapest techs that you're yet to discover. So if you've skipped some basics it's worth researching them yourself of buying them from rivals before you pop the Atlantis bonus.

Again, I've not found that to be the case eitehr, I usually get quite good techs, though with that said, I'm usually the tech leader...

In my experience the game has predetermined what I receive based on the moves I make. That said I usually get a mixture of gifts, most often it is gold. Although when I've received a tech several times it's been one that I was not researching. Some other funny things, when you reach a goodie hut, read the dialog. It may say something like you impress them with your demonstration of irrigation, even though you're three moves into the game. Add to that the fact that all barbarians seem to have a brother in law who stores caravans and really like horseman units. On the Atlantis thing, it's the three techs on the top of your list in my experience.

the demo gives you more than enough time to get very far. the egyptians are not the best unit to choose , with romans, in the xbox 360 demo, i won a domination victory, finishing with all barbarian villages killed, all little hut villages visited, 6 cruisers, (like, steam powered) 1 rifleman ARMY!, one battleship fleet, and lots of other units like hoarseman armies, multiple catapult armies etc. i found the seven cities of gold (its a pyramid of gold) amd a huge castle. also atlantis. i have researched all the way up to gun powder, steel, railway, oil and some others i cant remember, but i also researched every one before these. finishing with 48 culture per 39 population and a road leading to all 11 of my cities, except the island city of aztec, you cant bridge a continent.
and ile tell you how to do it. off the bat, send a warrier to the zulu, do not stop for anything, also, set the usage of your units to study science, ay 3900, study hoarse riding, once you getto zulu, allie with him and get on the hill, at your next turn, attack him, usually, there will be no resistance, however if so, the hill advantage should give you a 2.5 to 2 advantage.
begin making horseman units, after one army, attack the greeks. by now, have alphabet, iron, and half of pottery. after taking greese, move to egypt, take it with your now, legendary horseman army equiped with infiltration upgrade.
set all civilizations to mine science ( respectivly saying ) as soon as egypt is captured. attack all barbarian villages, for some needed cash. make one settler in each city and send them to the best places you can find, its hard to say where. usually by oak trees. after this, go for all the villages, they should, instead of giving you 25 gold, help advance all ur tech. (by the way, exploit every famous person, never settle them. if the chance commes up, leave them for a latter science.
by 500 ad, you should have discovered navigation, as well as atlantis, the gold pyramid, and the knights castle. begin locating inuet villages, about 2 are easily located. after researching steam power, build cruisers, and board lots of infantry, powerful ones. by 1125 ad, you should have researched steal, gun powder, invention, and some other, relitavly fururistic techs, for their time. build some battleships. amass them beside the city of the aztecs. about 1 gallion fleet, 1 cruiser fleet, and one battleship fleet. at 1225 ad, attack the aztecs with everything you have. the riflemen squads, mixed with 9 naval vessels supporting, will surly give you a fire works show.
thats about as far as i can get. in the demo. i try to get as far as possible, as a chalenge. ive accumulated 4500 gold, one time, but got no tech, and bearly made it.
if anyone else can further my tech level, please tell me, because, there is no way i can best this, domination victory.
also, if you just want to win, in the demo, a domination victory is possible by 450 ad, ive done i once.

How to get advanced techs quickly by cheating. That should have been the name of your title.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how there's any cheating involved? Your free to get the hut without saving, but if you want to quickly research what your doing and then learn the most expensive tech, it's better to save in case another civ comes in and gets it, but your more than free to get it at your own leisure.
If you don't like the tip, then refrain from making comments, I'm here to help other and give them tips, you can adjust my tips for your own uses or not use them at all. No ones forcing you. And saving is part of the game, and not cheating ;)

I get new techs in the demo from the huts and i play as Romans. But I don't go to the huts on the island until I have taken all the cities on the main land. Instead of waiting for the tech you are working on to finish I switch to a tech that takes a bunch of turns get the village get that tech then reselect the tech i was working on. In the demo it doesn't lose any turns. If I was on a tech and had 2 turns left I switch to one that takes 8 turns get it and switch back the tech I was working on will still get done in 2 turns this is all done on the same turn.

I'd suggest settling the great engineers rather than using them to be honest. I find that to be more beneficial.
As for Romans getting a caravan, I've always found that whatever civ I use, if I find a hut it'll contain a tech and nothing else.
Yes but if you've already settled one then using it is more efficient.
