Hello, im kind of bored today and the forums are pretty lame today too :(
So i decided to make my top 10 best game ever... And im wondering what my fellow Bioshock friends have to say about their top 10...
-Drums-
1- System Shock 2 ( no suprise)
2- Deus Ex
3- Freespace 2 (anyone played this game?)
4- Zelda: a link to the past
5- Grim Fandango (still waiting for a sequel)
6- Starcraft
7- Star wars: Knight of the old republic (can't wait for Mass Effect)
8- Halo ( kind of overrated but had a huge "wow" factor when you made the jump from the N64 to the Xbox )
9- Fable
10- Warcraft 2
I might think of more games i forgot in this compilation :D

- System Shock 2
- Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic

I've tried to do this before, but the trouble is, I just can't narrow down the list to only 10. I'd struggle at even 20. And besides, a Top 10 is subjective to time. Next year there'll be another 10 you'll want to add to your list.
I guess the obvious ones are probably:
System Shock 1 & 2
Deus Ex 1 (note the sore lack of a 2...)
Terra Nova (who here remembers that?)
Metroid Prime 1 (again, not 2... though I could easily include most of the 2D ones also)
Any Zelda game since the SNES
Final Fantasy Tactics (both PSX and GBA versions)
Any Europian-released Fire Emblem (I think there's only 2 so far)
Morrowind & Oblivion
Super Mario 64
etc....
There's at least 15 games there and I could easily carry on. Especially if I included Drinking Games like Soul Caliber 3, Gran Tourismo 4, Mario Tennis, Wii Sports...
You get the idea.

Wolfenstein 3D
Commander Keen series
Arcanum
Baldur's Gate series (and every other D&D games... i play D&D pen&paper too=)
Sam & Max
Star Wars games (Phantom Menace, Podracer, Jedi Kinght, X-Wing...)
and tons of DOS-games (especially made/published by Apogee)
...and many other cool games out there ;)

Breakdown (immersive to the max)
Grandia (epic tale, best characters ever for an rpg)
Lunar: Silver star story complete (Loved the pacing, also good characters)
Halo (great mechanics, love Master Chief)
Half-Life 2 (Good all around everything)
Kameo: Elements of Power (Like stepping into a storybook tale)
Super Mario World (just fun)
Final Fantasy 7
Okami (my god the art, controls great)
Swat 4 (multiplayer is brilliant)
This is just off the top of my head and what I've played the most over my lifetime.

Ten just isn't enough ;)
This is basically my entire permanent collection (in no particular order)...
Wind Waker
Freedom Fighters
Mafia
Resident Evil 4
Riven
Myst (Real Myst (3D Myst))
Exile
Star Wars: Pit Droids
Dark Corners of the Earth
Startopia
NFS: Porsche Unleashed (requires a wheel to really appreciate it).
Mercedes Benz World Racing (really needs a wheel to be appreciated)
Hitman: Codename 47
Hitman: Contracts
Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Thief: The Metal Age
System Shock 2
Zork: Grand Inquisitor
Grim Fandango
The Neverhood
Skull Monkeys (platformer and Neverhood 'sequel')
Fable
Phantom Crash
Moto GP (generally the latest incarnation)
Grand Prix Legends (old school racing sim— cars simulated right down to the centrifugal forces created by the drive shaft (not for the neophyte)).
Lotus Challenge (Xbox version) (clunky missions mode and appalling A.I. but way underrated)
SWAT4 (but it might get bumped if a better tactical shooter comes along)
Ape Escape
Deadly Shadows (for the nostalgia, not the gameplay ;) )
The Metal Gear Solid VR Missions Disc
Azrael's Tear
Alien Vs Predator 2 (which I basically keep around for the Island of the Dead player mod)
Forza Motorsport
Vietcong (don't play this if you have high blood pressure. This game will make you hate its developers. Some really intense gameplay and quite a few horrendously frustrating levels.)
I'm still yet to play Psychonauts, Ape Escape 2, Bully, Ico, Twilight Princess, Escape from Monkey Island, Hitman: Bloodmoney and Vampire Masquerade, but there's a good chance they'll be added too.
I think I'll probably have to take another look at Undying also.
No WoW fanatics yet? :pI bought a WoW beta key on ebay but got ripped off :(
I did play some Eve however, but it was way too much like work.

I bought a WoW beta key on ebay but got ripped off :(
I played it for six months and I don't think I'll go back to it. As contradictory as this sounds I found it to be a game that offers some great experiences, yet is terrible to play. The gameworld is something to behold, while the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. Yet it is that way by design. Definitely something you want to try before you buy.
I played quite a bit of Guild Wars which has gameplay that focuses more around player tactical-skill, and that's something I enjoyed more.

Azrael's Tear
Damnit! I was thinking about this game only two days ago! I never actually played the full version, just the agonisingly short demo. Where the hell can you get a copy these days?
I did play some Eve however, but it was way too much like work.
I find the same problem with all online RPG grind-fests, WoW included. I didn't even last the 14-day free trial with Eve, gorgeous as it was. I mean, do you really just spend most of your time staring at your ship as it auto-travels? Woo. Hoo.

Sometimes you just couldn't avoid it, but most of the time if you move slowly and could eliminate the threats quickly enough it wasn't that bad. Having said that if I remember correctly I think he might have shot himself at one point (although that might have been Eternal Darkness).

While innovative, the panic attacks were a bit annoying (SPOLIER: specially escaping from the inn).

Making a top10 list is hard. There are too many great games out there. But after doing some quick thinking I got something like this. Sucks, though, cause I know I'm missing a ton of great games from it.

03 - Daggerfall
04 - Deus Ex
05 - Outcast
06 - Planescape: Torment
07 - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
08 - Vagrant Story

10 - UFO: Enemy Unknown

2000= System Shock 2
2001= System Shock 2
2002= System Shock 2
2003= System Shock 2
2004= System Shock 2
2005= System Shock 2

That's about 8 and one half and one unknown as of right now plus
.375= Halo

.375= F.E.A.R.
There, that should make ten.
Thanks!

Reason Halo is on my list is because of On Line Play. I should have pointed that out. Sorry! I've spent many a night playing on line with friends having a blast. A.I. in games is still a long way off from the emotional Human interface.
Nothing like blood Gulch and me getting owned by some 12 year old nub.

Man, 10 best games? No way I can give ‘best game’ title to so many games.
Deus Ex
DOOM
X-COM: Terror from the Deep
* DX is absolute winner. The greatest game ever conceived.
** Here comes DOOM and DOOM 2. 14 years since its (DOOM 1) release. 14 years. And I’m still highly enjoying playing the damn thing. On another note, this does not include DOOM 3, it’s not the best game. But it proudly sticks on my list of all-time-favorites.
*** Original X-COM series. But why Terror from the Deep? Well, take a look at BioShocks setting and see what draws me…
I also hope that I’ll be able to add stalker to that list. Just have to wait until it’s released in Poland.

I was seriously considering the same idea recently too, specifically for SotC. There's a lot of turn-based strategy RPGs on PS2 that I never played as well.

I completely forgot about the SHF series as well as resident evil. Both sequels to those franchises were some of the best ever in the industry IMO. Oh, if you pick up a ps2 play some Okami, yeah SOTC is something to play (The bosses, although super simple, are spectacular in their girth) but man does it get boring after a while (pick up used if possible). Carmageddon
Fallout (Arcanum gets lobbed in here too)
Civilization
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Interstate 76
Dynasty/Samurai Warriors
Command and Conquer
Odium
Dragon Quest
...wow I couldnt even name games just series for the most part. GTA seris (PC versions) get honorable mentions for open-world goodness and being able to edit vehicle stats.
...also it was cool to see that people remember the X-Com series (Chrysalids **F-ING** suck)

-Resident Evil Series (multi)
-Counter-Strike (pc)
-Soul Calibur 2 (ps2)
-Blaster Master (nes)
-God of War (ps2)
-Secret of Mana (snes) : Sequal was o.k. too but nothing beats the original.
-Command and Conquer Series (pc)

-Zelda Series (multi): With the exception of the one where its always the end of the world that one sucked to no end.
Now everyone prepare a large rock for a stoning..... I am probally the only one here who hasn't played system shock and only played system shock 2 at a friends house a couple of times. I've never had state of the art computers, I am a multi-platform gamer who occasional gets an old pc game when my new junk pc can run it. For those of you who want to play SS1, you can get it from strangebedfellows.de (http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,211.0.html). If that's still down, you can get it off RapidShare (http://rapidshare.com/files/22182224/SYSTEMSHOCK_Portable_v0.6.exe) (*.exe download), and I've got the readme from the site right here:This is version 0.6 of SYSTEMSHOCK-Portable, based on the CD enhanced version originally released by Looking Glass Technologies (later Looking Glass Studios). It unpacks to 101MB and can be played under MS Windows XP from an USB-key or external drive or from your local HD. (As discussed on TTLG.)
System Shock Portable
HOW TO PLAY
Extracting the archive will create a folder named "SHOCK". To start the game just doubleclick "SSP.exe" in that folder.
After choosing how to start the game the splash screens and the intro will come up. Then you will be presented with the start screen. Start a new game, give your name and choose your gameplay options.
---> Notice that the cursor moves quite fast on the start screen and the gameplay options screen. Move your mouse up left and then very slowly down right to make your selection. Also make sure not to move the mouse immediately after you hit the START button. This can result in a crash.
The game starts up with a help screen which explains the interface. First time players should have a look at this before you hit [SPACE] to continue.
Now the game has begun but it's still at 320x200 resolution and the cursor is still very fast, so we want to change that.
Hit [ESC]-key then go to "Options-->Video-->VideoMode".
Choose "640x480". This relocates your cursor to the upper left corner and makes it move at an appropiate speed.
Now we want to change the interface to fullscreen mode. To do this click on the square button on the left upper side.
All that's left to do is to save the game. This will also save all the settings we have done so it's recommended to do this at the start of the game. Hit [ESC] to find the save game menu.
If you need help with the game controls there is a file named "SSReferenceCard.pdf" included with this archive. Key-bindings can not be changed within the program. If you still want to change them, you might find this useful.
PLAYING IN FRENCH OR GERMAN
System Shock was originally released trilingual but the German and French files have been stripped from this version to make it smaller. You can download the language files below.
Extract the language archive into your SYSTEMSHOCK-Portable folder ("SHOCK").
CHANGING THE RESOLUTION
Resolution can be changed in the game via [ESC] Options-->Video-->Video Mode
For higher resolutions than 640x480 you can download resolution packs below.
Available resolution packs are: 800x600, 1024x768
Place the downloaded resolution pack in the folder where your SHOCK folder is and extract the pack.
Go into the game and choose the new resolution via [ESC] Options-->Video-->Video Mode
SCREENSHOTS
Hit the [Prt Scrn] key. A message will appear onscreen saying "SHOCKxxx.GIF SAVED" where x is the number of the screenshot. You can find these screenshots in the "GEN" folder inside your SHOCK folder.
TROUBLESHOOTING
* At the START-MENU you can choose between two ways to start the game.
It's recommended you try the first mode (with DGVESA) first. Alternatively try to run the game with Mouse2kv.
If you run into problems in the first mode you may want to try to change the DGVESA-settings, also available from the START-MENU.
On the DGVoodoo popup choose "DOS" as your platform. The "VESA" tab appears where you can change the refresh frequency (might be necessary for TFT displays!). On the global tab you may set SSP to run in windowed mode.
* On some systems an error message ("port com1", "port com2") was reported. Just hit "Ignore" if you get that.
* On some systems SYSTEMHSHOCK-Portable needs to be run from an Administrator Account.
BUGS AND TROUBLESHOOTING FOR HIGH RESOLUTION PACKS
* Movies are not rescaled, so they still play at 640x480 in the upper left corner of the screen.
* The movies have sometimes horizontal streaks (corruption) - if you're seeing them for the first time you might want to watch the movies using 640x480.
* There's some intermittent but serious chop in 1024x768; I think this is a memory page-flipping issue, but I'm not sure. If it's too slow to be playable try the 800x600 version
* On the fullscreen map the cursor moves very fast. Move your mouse to the upper left and the slowly down right. To place a note on the map it might be easier to move the map via the arrow keys than to move the cursor.
* If you have a nVIDIA GeForce4XXX your monitor might give you an "out of range" message, or shut off. In this case please download nVidiaGeForce4_winxpfix.exe below. Go to a winXP Administrator account. Backup the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\vga.sys. Then run the Geforce4-fix and reboot.

ATTENTION: Since of late the AVAST antivirus program warns about the launcher in this archive (SSP.exe) to be a trojan. This is of course not the case.
The launcher is a simple batch file which was converted into an executable. You can find the unconverted batch file in the RES folder to have a look at what it does.

I managed to get Shock 1 running, and with sound, and played it more or less all the way through without any difficulties apart from 50% of the time the camera would slowly but constantly rotate (the first few times I thought that it was supposed to be a fault with Citadel Station's artificial gravity).
Using the Magnum in SS1 (I think it was a magnum) actually felt better than a lot of the guns in today's games. Just something about it that worked really really well.

I see that no one here besides me has Stubbs the Zombie in their top 10.I played the PC demo of Stubbs a while back. I loved the aesthetic and the humor, but I wasn't too sure about the gameplay. I just took a look at the gamespot review for the xbox version and now I'm thinking it probably is worth playing (I guess as long as you get the xbox version (the PC version doesn't control that well), I'll probably pick up a copy at some point.).

I probably will pick up a copy (my next console purchase may very well an original xbox). If it's got as much personality as the demo had and if it has any kind of replay value I'll probably end up keeping it (I've played a lot of games, but I've only ended up keeping a few).

Yeah, it does have bad re-play value, but playing co-op with a friend on the xbox is really fun. The game was not really meant to be some really big mainstream hit, but rather it was meant to be a humorous "popcorn" game that one could enjoy after playing hours of say, Gears of War or something.

1. Deadlock: This game introduced me to videogames. I still regard it as one of the best turn-based strategy games of all time.
2. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time: This was the first game that really hit me on an emotional level, for some reason.
3. Battlefield 1942: This game really redefined what "multiplayer" meant for me. Now I have a hard time enjoying multiplayer if it doesn't have classes or vehicles.
4. Curse of Monkey Island: One of the best adventure games I've ever played. Hilarious writing and awesome 2D graphics.
5. Grim Fandango: It was hard to place this after Curse, but the wonky 3D controls made me do it. A masterpiece of art, story, and dialogue.
6. Battlefield Vietnam: Still the best Battlefield, in my opinion. Who doesn't enjoy strafing Charlie with rockets while "Wild Thing" blares from your helicopter's speakers? :D
7. Gears of War: Showed me what "next-gen graphics" really meant. Wow.
8. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory: What stealth gaming is all about.
9. Super Smash Brothers Melee: Man, did I ever tell you about the time I was playing Mario and threw that Pokeball at Fox? Boy, I should've known that he was standing in front of a whole box of bombs! Still, that didn't save me when Ganondorf tackled me...
10. Freedom Force: Best superhero game ever. Bar none.

Other lists only go up to 10. This one goes up to 11. It's one louder?

Glad to finally see some FFX-2 love. Everyone went nuts over the fact that Squeenix decided to - God forbid - have a little fun. The game is still Final Fantasy through and through, with class based combat, great music, melodramatic storyline, deep character backgrounds, but no - everyone just complained about the J-pop and Charlie's Angels inspirations. And for some inexplicable reason, I've seen tons of people claim "OMG teh game is just abowtt showing b00bs not charakter developmnt" - anyone who says that clearly hasn't bothered to spend any time with the game at all, but it's probably the complaint I've heard the most. It's absurd.
My list... let's seeeee...
Disgaea = #1. The rest are in no particular order.
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
Starcraft
Super Smash Brothers Melee
Super Metroid
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy X
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Amplitude
Guitar Hero 2
Gemstone III (wonder how many people will recognize that :p)
If Halo 2 had been sold just as a multiplayer game, it would be up there, but since I have to evaluate the whole game, disappointing single player included, it can't quite cut it.
