View Full Version : Your Favorite Rapture Area.

I'd have to say I really really liked "Welcome to Rapture". It was so well designed and straight thru with awesome areas.
Who can forget the elevator ride to meet that mummy splicer at the top then drinking all that alcohol in Kashmir, and the Footlight theatre watching that big baddy was awesome.
But honestly, because this is the first area you meet and everything is new its baised in favour of it.
Apart of that, I'd say my next favorite area had to be Smuggler's Cave. Fun going thru all the tunnels.
What is your top areas? and not just scarey unless you like scarey, since we all agreed that Medical and Frolic were the scarey areas.

Think i have to go with Fort Frolic too, really liked it and the missions there were good fun. And of course with Cohen there too :)
Though i liked the Welcome to Rapture area alot too, the whole ride through Rapture in the Bathysphere and the Kashmir. Great opening to the game :) But really i love all the areas, just Fort Frolic stands out as the most enjoyable area to me

I like Arcadia, nice and open, which is a change from the tunnels and tiny rooms of the other places. Also Point Prometheus is cool because you get to see all the museum places in the game.

I cant say I liked Fort Frolic... it seemed... sad.
Other places in rapture showed desolation and the fall from its former glory, but Fort Frolic stood out in this respect.
You could see this was a place meant for many happy people going about and relaxing... it was meant to be a place of bright colors, art, entertainment, culture...
But now all it is is a shelled out husk inhabited by a madman.
I actually liked Neptune's Bounty. It really had an underwater aquarium-esque feel to it. That and 'Ol Peachy is awesome.

yea, i loved arcadia too. I mean even when the trees died it was still a great place, and you had a lot of area to explore which was kind of good and bad at the same time. My favorite part on the level is when the trees were finally restored...it was great :D .

haha, i don't know how everybody loves fort frolic so much!!! Everywhere i went i was scared out of my mind!!! And then i was looking for power to the people stations and i saw this new one and i went to where it was on the map. Every step i took, i stopped and looking around, no joke (this was my second time playing through the game and i never got to this part on my first time...it was the area on the bottom floor, one of the rooms had "the wild bunny" in it).
As for my favorite level, i'd have to say either Arcadia (for reasons why i've already stated) or possible the first level, "welcome to rapture." But if i had to really think about it, i really liked Olympus Heights. The upper class area of Rapture. It was spacey, which is good, and i don't know, it just seemed like a really relaxing level :D .

Why on earth is everyone liking Fort Frolic? Spider Splicers everywhere! ****, and those plaster things suCK! Its scarey as hell.
Also Fort Frolic isn't that large of an area actually. There is Posidon Plaza and the Main Atrium and that's about it.

FF was my favorite at first because it's equal parts creepy and pretty. But after several times through the game I like Neptune's Bounty. It has more stairs, corridors, crawlspaces, and rooms than any other level. You really feel like you're exploring.

Haha... I guess I'll have to be a sheep and go with Fort Frolic. I think if you could see Rapture in all its glory the level would be just as cool... but I love Cohen, and the plastered splicers are really creepy-cool.
Even though during my second and third playthroughs I was completely paranoid because I remembered the moving ones... lol
And the Medical Pavillion is definitely wicked, too. I love all the bloody writing on the walls and Steinman's wonderings-out-loud :D

Just finished playing through the game a second time... hmm...
I have to say... Arcadia... followed by Hephaustus and then Neptunes Bounty. Those are my three favorites.
Arcadia is just fun... nice and open, bright, with plants and water... And the Saturnine are fun too :D
Hephaustus... I liked because it looked cool. You really felt like you were in the engine room of Rapture. Spinning wheels, lava flowing through tubes, lightning arcing across bars.
And the view out of the window is awesome... those volcanic vents are the shizzats.
Neptunes Bounty made me feel like I was really at the bottom of the sea (for me thats a GOOD thing, always loved undersea style, which is one of the reasons I fell in love with BioShock).
And yes, I still hate Fort Frolic... its at the bottom of my list... maybe above the Medical Pavilion slightly.

I liked Arcadia/Farmer's Market. I really enjoyed that level all 3 times I played. A close second would have to be Neptune's Bounty.
Fort Frolic was too creepy. Those plaster spider splicers are nightmare fuel! One time I was in the casino and I had Natural Camoflage equipped so they couldn't see me. I got ready to hack a safe when I heard the door open. I stopped and turned just in time to see one running in real fast. I just sttod there and since she couldn't see me she just ran up the stairs made a circle and ran down other set of stairs and back out the door. No thank you, Fort Frolic. Sander Cohen can keep it.

I really love Neptune's Bounty and the whole Crabshack/restraunt thing. It's very 'ocean-like.' Plus, it's a nice breather from all the spookier and uneasy feeling areas (Medical Pavillion, Fort Frolic)
I'd like to see a 'Pirate Playland' type of area for Bioshock 2, kinda like a big mini-golf area or something, I dunno, their concepts seem very strict for Bioshock 1

Totally agree there a 'themed decaying playground' would so fit Rapture. I think they had an area like that but it never made it into the final release, wasn't it called Carnval or something, I could be wrong though.

Agree Half-Life is a brilliant game. Is on both PC and 360. I have the Orange Box on 360 and it has Half-Life 2, episode 1 and episode 2 but its on PC as well its just my comp cant run games anymore
Forgot to mention Apollo Square, love it there too :) since my HQ is there and all..

Lol. Thanks a lot Atlas. :) Reason I asked was because I only have a 360. I don't have a PC that'll run ANY type of games. I'll see if I can go rent it or something. (I'm broke, so I can't buy it. :o)

When you get the Orange Box Mari, you get Half Life 2 (2004), plus Episode 1 and 2, which were it's two sequels (Episode 1 or "Ep1" is the one with the creepy hospital). They are all FPS games like BioShock, so you shouldn't have any trouble playing them. You also get a cool FPS game called Portal (I think you'll like it as well) with that and TF2. The whole package for the 360 was just 60 bucks at release, and that price is surley down now. You do not get Half Life 1 (1998), that is for PC only, as is the Half Life 2 multiplayer. The Orange Box is also availible for the PS3.
Since your broke, you can easily rent it.
The only thing I worry about is that you'll love the game and join the Steam forums (I'm a member there too) and you won't hang out here as much. Don't let that happen! ;)
EDIT: Uh, back on subject...I think Fort Frolic is appealing to many players because of it's eye candy, at least that's one of the things I love about it. The first time I saw neon signs in an FPS was Duke Nukem 3D back in 1996, and it went over very well. But Fort Frolic is rife with beautiful neon signs, and they really add to it's overall atmosphere. :)

I just asked my BF about it and he just told me he has both Half-Life 1 and 2, but for PC; Said my computer might be able to run it. He's checking it out as we speak. :D Yay!
I don't think I'll stop hanging around here though. I like it too much here. :D

You know, you're right. It has an odd beauty..
Except for that damn statue. I've studied it for hours, and I don't care what others say, it's NOT Ryan (Ryan doesn't have glasses for one thing).
Other than that the place has a "Dark Sweet" touch.

That's it.
(I've always felt that there was suppose to be something that said something about Ryan taking over from someone else (shades of Greek Mythos: Zeus taking over from Kronos, and then Atlas fighting Zeus for control). But it appears that the story of "Kronos" got thrown out with the Chinese cook..)

I wish SO much I could put a picture in (I keep trying, but 2k refuses to take pictures when I copy to posts. The only thing I can do is "browse" on the avatar and put it there. I don't know why they don't have "browse" on pictures; they keep asking for a website. So I've got a picture on my avatar so you can look
Yeah, there's a "bulge" in-between the eyes, and there's a "wide round eye look". With statues done in the 1920s up to 1940's that was a way of showing glasses without doing so. (I think TR looks like that on Mount Rushmore; not sure..)
Glasses or not?

Also, a quick Q.
Did the the plastered splicers only show up in Hard?
I don't recall them at ALL in my normal play through.
They strengthened my love with Fort Frolic, just due to the intensity they brought.

Fort Frolic
Why?
1. Sander Cohen is my favorite character in the game
2. Going downstairs and into a water filled room to find a power to the people station, only to turn around and see about eight spider splicers standing perfectly still...in the manner of Cohen's statues...scared the hell out of me.
