What do you think?

Setting

See Rapture at its height. Everyone is gorgeous in a Hollywood kind of way. Everyone is happy and nice to one another. Andrew Ryan is regarded as a hero.

Storyline Overview

You assume the role of Atlas, one of the simple workers – such as a construction worker or plumber, though you (like everyone in Rapture) are highly skilled (i.e. an engineer).

See very slight mention of Fontaine and his affects (smuggling), mostly through off-handed rumors – something minor, such as, “I know where you can get some REAL Cuban’s (cigars).”

Then tragedy occurs. A pipe breaks or a pump fails and a residential area begins to flood. The area is where your family lives. This is the first action to take place as the player runs around attempting to use the wrench to shut off the water. This is also your first moral choice: You are told that you need to shut down pumps X, Y, and Z: this will save the large residential area but almost certain see that YOUR family is does not survive. The other option is for you to attempt to save both, placing everyone at greater risk.

People die based on the player’s decision. All the citizens of Rapture are very upset by the tragedy; however, Andrew Ryan is arrogant and flippant about the event (something along the lines of, ‘a minor loss for this grand design,’). His callousness to the tragedy upset the citizens of Rapture. Atlas especially, who lost his family, does not feel that this was a minor loss at all.

Having lost everything, Atlas is easily persuaded by someone offering to help ease his pain with a new drug (Adam). You soon become an addict and quickly find your way working for Fontaine who offers the drug in limitless amounts… for a price.

Central Theme

The overarching moral dilemma is between the self and society. The actions you take to preserve yourself (and in some instances, to advance your well-being) are in opposition to the society at large. Every action you take that helps yourself (and by association and through employment also helps Fontaine), tears at the fabric which holds Rapture together.

1. There's no need to post this in two places.
2. As I've already stated, this plot doesn't make any sense whatsoever and has no real relevance to the main BioShock storyline.

yea bro, i think a prequel would be a good idea, but sorry to say not the ideas your suggesting here.

permit me to ask: have you completed the game yet? because if so, you need some clarification on its story.

or perhaps you can replay it on easy so you can have more time to enjoy the game instead of worrying about dying. thats what i did instead of playing on hard after beatign medium because i wanted to soak in the beauty of this truly beautiful game.

First of all Kudos for you its always exciting to see the imagination of people on these boards. Second I like the story idea as a whole ever game wise I think my heart would break a little if I did not get to play as Jack.

It if was a prequel, which it probably is, there won't be a Jack to play.

Well since you have no idea anymore than anyone else we will have to wait and see.

That plot is terrible! If that were to be the story, I would feel that this was not Bioshock at all! Ugh.

Fair enough, no one seems to like the idea too much.

One of the key things I was trying to do is provide a premise for where Fountain got his alter-ego "Atlas" from.

I guess I need to play through the game again (it HAS been a while) because I everyone seems pretty united that it would this would never make sense as the back-story (I'm guessing there are some issues with continuity?) and would apparently be a terrible premise even if it work logistically.

It wasn't the response I was expecting, but thanks for being frank.

Anyone else have some ideas/suggestions?

That's a wonderful idea. Hoffner is as mystical as coffee. Although prequels do suck in my opinion, haven't horror movies taught you anything?

No, I don't, but we all know Jack is only 0 years old as of 1958, and he's at the surface.

And in the prequel (if there is one), we have absolutely no word on who you play as, i. e. Hoffner.
