Why is the game coming out in 2009?

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it will come out in the summer of that year. Now, I am no expert in the game industry and so on, but I was wondering, if they've been working on it for years, why is it coming out so late?

There was the possibility of the game coming out this year too, so it's probably not because they have not completed it. Is it being perfected? Is it business related?

Anyone have any ideas? I will say, that part of me is glad it's coming out then (if it in fact is) because it give me time to save up for a better computer.

A number of reasons actually. Theres always graphics optimization, and bug fixing, not to mention any new content that they might add, and all that. However theres a lot of games that rush the release date, eg. KoTOR 2, and some stuff gets cut out, because it was either not complete, or wasn't fixed and planned out properly. Now I am not sure at what stage Mafia 2 is at, but I'm guessing it's all about touch-ups and opt. atm

I think the released date is pushed later in 2009 because GTA 4 is luanched and probably the PC version will come in october, and so, Mafia 2 would be much safer released in 2009 in terms of marketing.
And they probably got some stuff to fix anyway ( ex. bugs ). Also they have time for some changes now that they relesead screenshot's and a trailer they have some input from the people who will buy the game.

Yes only the developers. Have you read somewhere [name developer] said "We release the game at the end of 2008!". Me not. Only some persons with false answers said the game will be released in 2008. Just wait till it's rolling over the tongue from one of the developers.

Be patient and in mean while enjoy watching the trailer, screenshots and reading the latest news ;).

IS (2kC) have always taken a long time to finish games, Mafia was hardly rushed and H&D2 took forever ;)

not bothered about when it's out, just hope it can recapture a bit of the magic of the first one, not easy with a sequel imo but would rather they took their time and delivered another unforgetable experience than push out a third rate follow up, the fact that it has already taken so long is a good sign afaic.

So, who knows :) I think, that we could be cleverer to Christmas...

Maaaan, you did a thing you (actually everybody from members area) were not allowed to do: opened a "surething'' thread about someting we don't know for sure it's going to happen and that is Mafia II will be released in 2009! There is no valid proof that Mafia II will be released in 2009 or 2008 so far, so this thread is kinda useless. For this matter we have "Mafia II release date" thread! You can read post #9 and see that somebody from 2K Czech said something about 2008.
BTW, I still think the game will come out in 2008!!!!!!

I also hope for 2008, but I think they won't let it release if there's any problem or if it's not perfect done, so this fact speaks rather for 2009.

But I'm still saying to my head they have been developing it for five long years and there's still much time to finish it in 2008 period, and then I remind me a situation with Alan Wake which I'm waiting for too.

Nothing is for sure at the moment about its release ... but hope that whatever time it takes ... it keeps upto the hype and expectioans ...

as far as reasons of its dealy are concerned i think it would be in testing and
bug elimination and it may take time ...

Yeah, I think you're right. I just wish I could say the same thing about EA. The feeling is that they are going opposite to 2K's direction.

Sorry, I didn't realize I made the thread sound so sure until you pointed it out, wasn't my intention. But I thought I read a reliable source stating it was gonna be 2009? I can't remember where now.

Anyways, I was just curious to know why they have been developing it for many years. I'm no gaming expert but 5+ years for a game seemed like a long time to me.

yea yea like i said nothing si confirmed ..only speculations but if you read at all the interviews or declarations or wathever you may note that they said : "well I THINK that it will be launched in 2009" " mm well I BELIEVE that ..." its more probable but its not impossible a 2008 release.

that pretty much sums it up ;)

me personally, i think it WILL recapture that magic from the first one.... cause to me there's nothing really like Mafia out there in general as the way it 'feels' is unique... and i dont see any reason why #2 wont feel pretty much the same as #1 but with more enhancements etc.
