Great preview, it all sounds very good.

As they said I hope the PC version gets the aiming option as they commented on, and I was a bit "Hm" on their comments on the driving, but as stated they didn`t try it themselves only observed so I think it will be very good.

SMALL CONCERNS
There are some things to worry over. The reticule system has an assisted-aiming feature designed for controllers, leading your shots towards enemies in a way that's unnatural - 2K would do well to let PC gamers turn it off. That isn't to say Mafia II will be a console-led title, as everything else at the presentation suggested heavily that the PC version will, yet again, be the definitive one.

Wouldn`t make any sense not to make it an option to turn it off for PC players. I would be surprised if it isn`t an option on console as well.

And on the preview I like how the areas with more crime will have more police and that you can bribe the mayors office.
Also I am curious about the "respect" meter and the preview mentioning that you might get "whacked" if it goes way down, if so I wonder if it is a cutscene or a "maybe I`ll survive" gunfight.

Hello Bill,

You're right, i don't know where they all get the nice ideas it comes out in november 2008 etc. As long 2K say it's 2009 than it's 2009. Others are just fake releases. 2K will tell us the right release when they know it.

May i ask you which store it was? I like to read the magazine too in the store as all other dutch do hahaha.

@ Styvesant: It's a pleasure to share information, we all want to know the latest news of course :). Anyway, you're welcome!

Yeah same for me basically as I need another PC to play it anyway, more time to save up a little bit more cash.

Take this as a time, to build a new rig, play some other games and enjoy life lol until Mafia 2 comes out, then you sit infront of the comp for days :P

Wow, the level of detail they are putting into the game just continues to impress me. I mean, NPCs exiting their cars after a collision and trading insurance policies? Holy moly!

Empire City will REALLY be a living, breathing city.
Overall, more good stuff to look forward to than bad.
Thanks for sharing the news!

EDIT: Just wanted to add that the guy definitly knows his stuff. Finally, someone who thinks it's unfair to pitch Mafia against GTA

really wouldn't worry about it, is used a lot in console shooters, COD4 had aim assist and most players didn'r even know it was there till it was pointed out.

"If a driver collides with another car (which occurs at random), both parties will exit their vehicles and exchange insurance details in an amicable fashion. " Yay, no longer will I need to push jammed cars out of the jam :D

The problem will appear when they'll go out and talk and talk and talk and never go back to the cars :p

"clothes and cars chosen to flawlessly recreate the '40s period" It's great that they chosen it so well...but I don't want 1940's period, I want 1950's with tailfins, wide skirts with perfect mid-calf lenght (not the popcultural too short version to the knee) and James Dean's red jacket !

"As retaliatory fire ricochets and pings off every surface, Vito's mates desperately try to avoid having their faces shot off" Cute :D so I was right to see pieces of Vito's cover falling off on one of the first screens
"No all-seeing eye will register your crimes either - as with the original, your notoriety in Mafia II is determined by the ability of those who've witnessed your crimes to reach a phone or radio to report them. " smashing telephone booths will be more usefull in this Mafia hehe ?

"Traffic in general is denser and the range of vehicles more varied." YEZ !

"Traffic in general is denser and the range of vehicles more varied." YEZ !

Yeah that is a huge pluss I would say, especially since the original already did a very good job on it.
The density part sounds exciting, will make car chases more hard which is only a good thing.

Cannot wait to do a chase in one of those cars, that's gonna be horrific going through dense traffic wooohooo

"The damage modelling has also been rethought, with the dynamically crumpling wrecks of the original being replaced by scripted, location-based damage."
Is that good or bad ? Every time when in game something happens "dynamically" the reviewers are glad for this. So is bad that we'll now have a "scripted" damage ?

I can understand the "location-based" becouse it was already in Mafia I , I think, cause when you hit the lantern with fender, only fender bent.

ArchangelX

I don`t think its a bad thing, it depends on how many zones they have included and more\most importantly to which extent the damages influence the handling of the cars.

The "scripted damage" part was the only thing I had a concern with, not the aiming issue.

Scripted damage sounds like a step back. Dynamic sounds good. I hope this has nothing to do with limitations of the consoles. Ughh...

I definetly agree, that "scripted damage" is a bad thing. I just love Mafia for the dynamic damage, 'cause you never know, what kinda damage you might get while hitting something... Even now I sometimes see some big damage, which I never seen before, like the steering wheel being outside the car...
