I have always been partial to the South American culture, but I am ready for a change of tribes. So it will be interesting to see which tribe everyone uses for a victory.

I wont buy this game.
There is no Ottomans. It is not a question of Ottoman. Ottoman is just the latest Turkic empire.
The descendants of Oguz Turks ruled more than 2200 years coming from Asian steps. One of the biggest empire after Rome.
The first empire founded in 220 BC called Huns Empire ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huns ) , then followed by Gokturk Empire ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gokturk ), Seljhuk Empire ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seljuks ) , and lately Ottoman Empire( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottomans ).
They are the real settlers & explorers.
But they do not exist in civilization revolution. Instead, some civilizations which even never became empire exist! Is this a result of marketing worries of 2K games? It is ridiculous...
I am sure this post will be deleted.
I recommend to 2K guys to play between themselves by choosing their self-created civilizations.
But remember, you can not change the history by computer games!

What does anyone think about instead of Russia having the Soviet Union. I know they are mostly the same, and I cant think of any initial advances they might get that are different from Russia, but the Soviet Union was pretty powerful.

Rizzi you are looking way to deep into this. This is a video game, not real life history, so stop trying to make out a deeper meaning in this.

And bushman the reason that Russia is chosen and not the Soviet Union is becuase The Soviet Union really had a short life span when you compare it to Russia.

Maybe because the arabians are in the same position, so they would prefer to put in the game arabians than ottoman empire, I think it's better..

LMAO Australia? it fits in the British empire, incase u didnt know Austarlia was and i belive is still a colony of Britain, now they of course rule their own country, but still the Queen is the head of state but with no power to make any laws, just like in Canada,

The Ilse of Man totally is more worthy then Australia to be a civilization. XD

Seriously though I think the nations that were chosen are perfectly fine. You have every continent represented that has reason to be represented, and a decent variety with what we have. I think people who in their desired countries listed them all the same except for replacing the zulu and aztec are silly, especially since some of them replaced one tribal civ with another! Silly people! =D If anything you should be asking for them to add more civs, not wish uselessly that they'd done things your way xP

Australia only makes slightly less sense than America. Anyway I think the civilizations are well presented.

Ok, let's add Australia :). All we need to do is choose a memorable leader. Let's see, there's... Oh, wait, never mind! :p

And while we're on South Pacific additions to the game, why isn't Lord Rutherford one of the great scientists? He split the atom! ;)

Not to mention that Rutherford did his most important work here in Canada at McGill University.

Arabs are in the same position? Please go learn some history first. Ottoman Empire is a Turkish empire and Arabic lands were part of it for ages, as well as all around blacksea, all north Africa and all of east Europe all the way to Vienna!

You sound like "because the English are in the same position, so they would prefer to put in the game English than French". Does it make any sense??

I am very disappointed to learn that Ottomans are not in the game.

I know what he is saying...he is saying Arabs are very closely related to Turks(both musslim for example) and they both owned area in the middle east..their empires where comparative in size(both large empires..) but the arabs had a MUCH larger Empire..Arabia owned areas in Turkey for example..so you could say they are close enough to the area where the ottos where to not have to include them in the game

Arabs where more important then Ottos...Arabs spread islam throughout the world for example..its kind of like why people wonder why canada isnt in the game..its because their neighbor the USA is more important..whether you like it or not

The descendants of Oguz Turks ruled more than 2200 years coming from Asian steps. One of the biggest empire after Rome.

I think the idea is for a single empire and not for a succession of governments.

That's not to mention the Gokturks are nowhere mentioned as a possible descendant of the Huns.

From your posted page:

Many nations have tried to assert themselves as ethnic or cultural successors to the Huns. For instance, the Nominalia of the Bulgarian khans may indicate that they believed themselves to have been descended from Attila. The Bulgars certainly were part of the Hun tribal alliance for some time, and some have hypothesized that the Chuvash language (which is believed to have descended from the Bulgar language) is the closest surviving relative of the Hunnic language.[19]

The Magyars (Hungarians) also have laid claims to Hunnic heritage. Because the Huns who invaded Europe represented a loose coalition of various peoples, it is possible that Magyars were part of it. Until the early 20th century, many Hungarian historians believed that the Székely people were the descendants of the Huns.

In 2005, a group of about 2,500 Hungarians petitioned the government for recognition of minority status as direct descendants of Attila. The bid failed, but gained some publicity for the group, which formed in the early 1990s and appears to represent a special Hun(garian)-centric brand of mysticism. The self-proclaimed Huns are not known to possess any distinctly Hunnic culture or language beyond what would be available from historical and modern-mystical Hungarian sources.[20]

I get your point but it is wrong to say that Arabs are very closely related to Turks. This is how western people might "think", but that is wrong. My example with English and French is still valid, or you can take the same example for Chinese-Japanese, Spanish-Portugese etc. Turks and Arabs are just neighbours and surely, their cultures have some similar points as much as all neighbour countries do.

At the times when Arabs were ruling lands of Turkey, Turkish people were still in middle Asia. Turkish people (Seljuk Empire, which is the earlier empire than the Ottomans) entered Anatolia in 1071 AD after a war with Byzantine Empire.
On the other hand, Turks ruled the Arabic peninsula for around 300 years.

Regarding how important an empire is, I believe it is not very good to dig into those subjects. The Turks protected holly lands from Seljuk times to Ottoman times from crusaders for example. They protected Islam since 1090 AD. Ottoman Sultans have been Caliphs for more than 400 years. It was the Hun Empire (which is the Turkish empire before Gokturk Empire in the region of middle asia ) against whom Chinese built the great wall. You are saying that Arabic Empire is more important than the empire that ended Byzantian Empire and conquered Constantinople (Istanbul).

I wish we could ask any king/queen/sultan in Europe-Asia between years 1300s to 1800s whether Ottoman Empire was among the first 16 important empires in the world history or not.

Anyway, this is just a game, I played the demo and like it a lot. I will buy the game soon. I hope they will release an extension pack, so that I can play with Ottomans too. Till then, I will stick with Greeks, as they are the most similar culture to Turks in the game.

Easy, John Curtain. The war-time leader who stood up to Winston Bloody Churchill and won. He quite literally worked himself to death in the defence of Australia from The Japanese.

Ahh a Kiwi. We love kiwis, we must, we have so many of them living in OZ. Don't put yourselves down. I like your current Prime Minister. She's a great bloke. LOL.

What about Sir Donald bradman or Sir Edmund Hillary. Why do we have to have stinking politicians as our leaders.
