View Full Version : Would you like to see another race mission in Mafia II?

I started the thread thinking at the race from Mafia which many gamers hated. To be honest the race was indeed pretty hard in Mafia v1.0, but I managed after 1-2 hours of playing to get it right, plus I helped a friend to pass it too. IS repaired their "mistake" when they launched the patch by allowing the player to select an easier level of difficulty for the race, although for some gamers it was too late. Buuuut, overall, I kinda enjoyed that race and I won't be bothered to have another race mission in Mafia II as hard as the race from Mafia unpatched. Or at least would you like to see a circuit of Empire City where to go outside the missions and to "race" your day-by-day cars or some Grand Prix cars of the era? I would love too!:) I can't stop thinking at racing in Mafia II the Mercedes-Benz W196 F1 car, for example.;)

No. NO. NO. If you want racing missions - there are racing games for that. I hated the race mission. Big pain in the butt. I don't want to see it in Mafia II. Totally unnecessary and useless waste of time.

Driving skills of everyday taxi driver is one thing, driving a professional racing machine is other. This mission was a bit unjustified to me becouse of that. Plus it really was hard, what doesn't have to be added ;)

I loved the racing mission in Mafia 1 and for me it was easy :P , beeing a racing freak...but I would not like a racing mission in Mafia 2. Like skeeterbutt said, there are other games if you wanna race.

I personally wouldn't mind one, and I know that there won't be one, but still i wouldn't mind it.

I say no, it was a part of the story in the first game and gave us a few missions that deviated from what we would expect from the game in relation to its theme (which I didn`t mind at all).

It would be nice to have a somewhat deviating mission this time but nothing of the same.

Yes, I want another race mission no matter the difficulty level Yes, I would like there to be an entire season, even if only optional.

And for the love of god, please make the tracks accessible in freeride,

I think 2k Czech don't want to tell us the same story, so there'll be another missions. I don't mind the race, but just in contemporary tv in some cutscene or like being a fan at some of those races.
I also don't mind if developers will process some races in separate missions (maybe multiplayer-ones) just like in Mafia (they maid a multiplayer part of game but they deleted it from there)

I dunno about one being made, but I sure would like to drive some 1950s muscle.

james_beckerson
05-02-2008, 02:16 PM
you'll get a piece of "1950's muscle" as there will be Mercury with 1948 oldsmobile 98's front. These Oldsmobiles had ones of the 1st high compression V8's and were ruling the tracks and streets in early 1950's. There's also a '54 hudson Hornet, which despite having a straight six engine, had an unibody construction , which gave it a low center of gravity and good handling.

How about the 1950 corvette?

mg198242

I just hope they add a circuit to the game and let the player go there whenever he wants and enter the circuit to "test" his cars and if he goes in some certain days he can participate in some races with street cars or GP cars, whatever he likes.... everything outside the story and then nobody will complain IMO as race and cars haters won't be bothered by stuff related to cars and car fans will have their piece of pie too.

*Drools* Ah man, I need a towel over here.

Not too sure about the circuit thing, I mean, bdah, yeah why not, it would add to the things to do in the game, my '53 and I will be going there every time. :D

Maybe Vito can participate as a spectator on a race day, but I want the circuit to be locked during the story ( maybe unlocked when you kill someone there or something ). And in the free ride it can be unlocked and you can test cars whenever you want.

or just like in Mafia, when you had done some mission and there appeared: New possibilities has been accessed in the FreeRide.

You'd be very disappointed muahaha. The '53-55 Corvettes were using Chevrolet's trusty Stovebolt Six 235 cubic inches, 150 HP and 107 MPH / 172 km/h max speed. Weren't speed demons at all. That's why I don't like Corvettes, (even if it later eventuall got V8) and becouse they never had tailfins !
Fortunately, the problem with fins was solved by mighty and wise 2KCZECH becouse of mix with the '51 Buick XP concept car, so you may only pray (and eventually send some check to 2KCz ;) ) that they improved the performnce too.

c'mon guy, the race wasn't THAT hard, btw you could download mafia v 1.2 patch and choose the difficulty, i didn't download the patch and finished the race, second , if you didn't have v 1.2 you could take a shortcut to the left

well it wasn't hard, but you kinda had to get used to driving that fast thing, and be very gentle with it.

maybe optional will be better so if you dont want to make it will give you other consecuences in the story like the play station magazine of may/2008 "you will have to make diferent choices that will affect the story of the game"

BTW, a steering wheel is welcomed to this game and actually the race from Mafia is easier with a wheel than if you play it with the keyboard.;) Then, the whole driving part it's better with a wheel, so for Mafia II I intend to buy specially a wheel, it simply changes the things in better.

Godfather1930
05-03-2008, 04:43 AM
One time I played Mafia 1 from start to end with my steering wheel, and I can say that it's pretty fustrating to play with a wheel if you don't have a dashboard view.
It's like playing NFS U with the frikin wheel as you know the game is mainly developed for keyboard.

It depends. If you play the race from Mafia with a wheel the race will be easy in the end, believe me. As an example, when I play with the keyboards my best time is around 1,29-1,30sec/lap but constantly I get 1,31sec/lap; after playing with a wheel I managed to get 1,25sec/lap and the competition gets 1,31-1,32/lap so I was like 6-7sec/lap faster than the best from the rest. After 5 laps I lapped almost the whole field. The race suddenly was piece of cake. BTW, there are guys, right here on forum, Hatesink, which managed to get 1,22sec/lap!!!

i voted "Nooooo"... cause if the challenge is anything like the MAFIA on PC was without the patch (i.e. real hard) i definitely do NOT want another racing mission cause even though i beat it without the patch i was swearing at it big time etc etc as it was way to hard since this aint a racing game it's a shooter type game so the race mission should NOT have been that hard to beat.

but once the patch came along for the PC, i did not mind having a race mission in the game as i can breeze though it then ;)

p.s. if i want a racing game ill go play "Forza 2" (this game is still pretty much the ONLY reason i have a XBox360 to this day cause even though GTA4 is good i would have waited til PC version anyways) since that's THE BEST when it comes to simulation racing games (playing with assists OFF as it makes it more fun/challenging that way)

Another racing level would be cool, even though I am sure you will have to do many chase missions lol and I find that more entertaining !

I actually liked the racing mission. It was unique. Part of the reason the game was great is that there was so much variety in the missions. You never knew what to expect. Just think about all the twists and turns in the hotel mission.

When I first stumbled into the racing mission, I thought it was a totally crazy idea, and I loved it.

Besides, once you learn the "trick", it's easy. There are only two cars in the race that can beat you. They are the first two cars to make the first turn. Ram them/pass them in the first turn and they will never catch you as long as you don't spin out.

Come on dudes, it wasn't that hard. I mean, it was insanely hard at first becasue most of us weren't skilled enough but don't tell me that there are dudes that still don't manage to do it or just get lucky doing it nowadays. Personally i'd like another race mission, if possible hard enough, to bring back the old feelings ;) .

I also voted for the second option :D .

In the first franchise the racing mission had its role.
Come on, Frank said: "I don't have time to teach someone else how to drive." and Tommy is the best driver in the family, so it is logical to use him for this urgent problem. I doesn't matter if the game is oriented to shooting or driving, it was explained in the storyline.
I really didn't mind it in the first game. I recall it was quite difficult the first time I beat the game but after all its not that hard. Now as I have beat the game exactly 14 times, it's hard to have fun, it's just so easy to beat.
Now, what about a race mission in Mafia II? I think first of all, yes It would be nice but it has to fit in the context and the story so NO from me. But a race track in the game with the ability to race on it is a MUST-BE! Although I would prefer it in Freeride rather than in missions.

No, I don't know anything about the storyline what so ever, none. I'm just thinking, you know, that it would be a repeat-ish feature in the story. Of course it could have a race mission, I just think it's a bit unlikely for 2k to do that.:)

I just got the game a few days ago and did the race mission yesterday. Managed to win on my second attempt. I thought it was pretty fun but could get a bit annoying. It was just something different to do from the other missions for those who like the driving aspect. I think it fit in quite well, Tommy being a taxi driver and them up to get alot of money for the win made sense and earned him his respect. I personally wouldnt mind another race mission in Mafia II but think that it should keep the options of changing the difficulty and damage in them so for those that like it can make it harder and those who dont can make it easier

You're playing Mafia for the 1st time only now, in 2009?! Woooow, late, man, late! We have a saying here, "better late than never", but you should have played the game back in 2002 (or 2003) in order to get the REAL image of the game, I mean if you would have played the game back in 2002-2003 your impression would have been much better than now!
BTW, you're playing the game patched?! The patch added to the race mission different difficulty levels, so it was much more easier to pass the race mission, compared to the unpatched game!

I don't think that the racing mission was THAT hard...man, of course the handling of the car was hard to get a grip on but with some basic skills in keyboard (stearing wheel) it should've worked out pretty well after a few tries. I absolutely loved that mission, and all the missions before and after the race. It added some extra edge on a game already furfilled with edge :)

I would be glad if there were missions like that in mafia 2
