Personally I think it looks closer to this:

After looking really closely at both the cinemas and actual in game model, it looks like only the first chain link is at an angle (tilting slightly upwards.) If you really analyze the images closely it looks like the second and third chain links are straight (based also on the angle of the chain link connecting them and how it corresponds angle-wise to the chain links it connects.)

I do see a lot of people thinking it is more like the one below, but it just doesn't jive with what's in the game.

And MushroomBoy, make sure you really want that as a tattoo. I'm not exactly sure what removal techniques they have now days, but you may want to look into it in case 10 years from now you look at your arm and think OMG!! Why did I do that!!! lol.

I think that the chains are all straight, it's just the positioning on Jack's arm makes them appear crooked slightly.

The first one is definitely tilted. Look at how the chain that connects the first and second link is positioned in relation to the first chain. In fact that connecting link looks to be slightly tilted as well which I didn't notice until now lol.

Tattoos are great fun because in ten years all you friends can laugh at the silly stuff you thought was cool when you were younger (or drunk). :p But I digress...

Here's what I find incredibly funny about the many threads where people have been frantic about getting Jack's tattoos exactly right. It's difficult to design because no really good images exist, right? (Just look at the differences of opinion in this very thread regarding the exact placement of the links.) So.....how is anybody going to know if yours isn't exactly right? Do you get what I'm saying? The very reason you're having a hard time is also the very reason you shouldn't be stressing about it. :cool:

Okay, but if you're really going to permanently mark yourself with a video game tribute....and it really means this much for you to get it right....I have a suggestion:

Ask 2K.

Instead of scrutinizing screencaps and debating over perspective, why don't you contact 2KElizabeth and see if she can have someone in the art department post an image of the actual chain tattoo? There has to be dozens of pieces of tattoo control art. Releasing a clear pic of the chain should be easy as pie for them. If you are going to permanently alter your body, at least take the time to do it right.

The problem i think many people will have is that they will expect it to look more like this:

You know, it's funny. I personally hate tattoos (oops, I just lost half of my readers). I'm sorry, but to me they're all labels, and most of time they're saying "Hey! I belong to (fill in the blank here). I AM NOT my own person, nor do I have any indepenace of my own. Just make up a picture that thousands of other people will, and put it here, and I'll pretend I'm something different.."

But..

In a way I like Jack"s tattoo. But it's not like you think. It's NOT a chain of slavery; at least, not in the early part of the game. There's a little trick that comes later in the game. In the beganning of the game, we rarely see all the chains, as the game goes on, we see MORE of the chain. And that's important.. Why? Because later in the game we see more often the "last link"
Why is that important? Because the "last link"is turned up and different from the rest...and incomplete. Like it was broken...
It's not a chain of slavery any more. It's a broken chain of liberty ..

i think it could be because it doesn't meet up at the middle of each chain. that is, the link between the left and middle chains, it isn't in the middle of either chain. that could be it, at least.

theyre cool, but if you get chain tattoos make sure that theyre a little better than these ones. seems like the links were ok but the chains themselves were considerably skinny.

Impressed by the exchange of ideas though, and the helpfulness of you all to him. Good job.

Oh, I don't know if Elizabeth written back yet, but for silly reasons she may not be able to. Every good company has a legal team whose's first word of advice to workers is "For God's sake don't HELP them!!" I'm not talking about Tech (although lately I'll admit it seems like it..). The lawyers are worried that a suggestion will be perfectly fine, but something will go wrong, and a greedy lawyer on the other side will use it to sue the company. I'm not kidding.
Let me give you an example in this stupid, but profitable, logic.:

Elizabeth sends you a suggestion on how to do the tattoo. (Lawyer for your side argues that this encouraged you to do the tattoo, and even seemed to promised rewards for giving them and Bioshock publicity, thus inviting possible injury to the skin and blood and an added settlement because 2K didn't PAY you for doing so, thus breaking work laws.)


You family doesn't want you to have the tattoo You argue about it. (Lawyer for your side demands MORE money to each member of your family because of "mental anguish")


You go get the tattoo anyway. 2 years later you decide you don't like it because your new girl/boy thinks it's "creepy". (Lawyer for your side sues 2K for you "Because 2K didn't give warning that this could happen.")

You finally marry, have kids, but the tattoo gives your kids nightmares. (Lawyer for the other side demands payments not only to you for mental anguish , but doctor's care for your children for the rest of their lives because of "mental pain when trying to love".)

This might be why Elizabeth hasn't answered; and if she has, someone will soon talk to her and say maybe she "shouldn't have".

Yeah, it was some Ale company. The guy had sent in a request for a color picture of the the label (this was before everyone had a xerox in the home or neighborhood, And, this makes me feel old to tell you this, copies made by the xerox in libraries were usually only in black and white because the Secret Service was scared money would be copied). The company thought it was a wonderful idea, and not only sent him a copy, they also sent him a box of Ale, and a photographer to take pictures for the newspapers!! It was a different world then...

im a little nervous on the pain. but i have an issue, that whenever im in excruciating pain that i have brought upon myself, i laugh uncontrollably cuz i find it hilarious, even tho im in mucho pain.

like, one time, my brother slammed my arm in a door cuz kicked him in the butt fer no reason, and i was laughing a crapload, but i also broke my arm. xD

im a little nervous on the pain. but i have an issue, that whenever im in excruciating pain that i have brought upon myself, i laugh uncontrollably cuz i find it hilarious, even tho im in mucho pain.

like, one time, my brother slammed my arm in a door cuz kicked him in the butt fer no reason, and i was laughing a crapload, but i also broke my arm. xD

luckily im leaving in july fer college, so yea. also, im getting it inbetween me getting a big award at school, and graduating, so they'll be really prud of me fer this junk, and may not care AS much about the tattoo.

Biggest mistake (especially since you are getting them on your wrists, which will hurt like a maternal fornicator), is to take alcohol or aspirin. Both are blood thinners and will make you bleed excessively during the procedure. Be careful about stuff like that.

This may be too late for you to read, but I just had one "worst case scenario" thought.

You get a cool tat based on a fantastic videogame. It comes out great, and it makes for an interesting conversation starter for a while.

Then, the "blockbuster" Hollywood movie comes out, and it does to BioShock what Catwoman did for Batman's love interest.....

Now people see your chains and think you're a Hollywood fanboy poser who worships awful movies. :(

And you spend the rest of your life trying to explain to people that it based on a game, not the movie that they are all way more familiar with. It's one thing for your tat to be based on something that was once cool but became obscure. But its another thing entirely for it to be usurped by something awful.

(And who knows? The movie may be fantastic. But if they use the chains, it still makes you look like you're chasing after the latest summer blockbuster. People won't care when you actually got inked.) ;)

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm a girl and I would get them without worrying about how it would look.
You're an artist. Draw them on yourself and see what kind of reaction you get. Most tattoo artists won't draw something on you and let you leave with it as they're afraid you'll take it to someone else...but just do it yourself.
If you like the way it looks and aren't embarrassed by whatever reactions you might get, go for it! I don't really think that people would react at all since wrist tattoos are becoming more and more popular lately.

I'll re-do them though. But yeah, it's true; when you go to a Tattoo shop they won't let you walk out with their design on you. (I worked at a Tattoo Shop once.)

I agree, draw them and show them to us. You might could call in a favor with one of the people from the shop where you used to work and get them to draw it on you...so that you would know what it would look like professionally. Unless you are on bad terms with them now, of course.

Oh, no, it's all cool. I just switched jobs because I wasn't getting a good schedule. Which turned out to be worse because I started working at Hot Topic and my schedule there was WAAAY worse than at the other place. I'm not an artist or a tattooist. I just helped out whenever they needed my help. Other than that, I was at the service desk. Lol. But I got to see some cool stuff. :)
Yeah, I've still got a friend that can draw REALLY REALLY nice. But he moved out of town and haven't seen him in ages. I'm sure he could come up with something great. :) I already talked to him about a Bisohock tattoo. ;)
