PS3 or 360? Help me!

Hi everyone!
I'm waiting (as you, I suppose...:p ) Civ Revolution but I have no idea about which version to buy.
I've both 360 and PS3 so i would prefer to take the best version available.
Are they going to be exactly the same (graphic, online features, gameplay)?

Well putting aside any fanboyism I am leaning towards the Xbox version myself, I feel Live! is a little more established. Plus I like the achievments. I know the PS3 is working on the trophy system but its not quite where it needs to be.

I own a PS3, so obviously I'm biased.

Gameplay and graphics should be identical for both versions. There might be slight graphical variations between the two, but nothing outstanding. Some games look a wee bit better on one system, and some games look better on the other. Our glorious community administrator, 2K Elizabeth, says graphically the two are identical (http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16820&p=266933).

Gotta tip my hat to Xbox Live. It's been around for 5+ years and def offers more features than the Playstation Network. More experienced users will offer a better testimonial, but from what I've seen Live games are standard with player rankings, ranked game, auto-matchmaking, Achievements, etc. So for online features the winner goes to Microsoft. But...

Playstation Home might narrow that gap. Home is a virtual environment often compared to Second Life. Some people are saying the avatars you create are Sony's answer to Nintendo's Miis, and Xbox Live Achievements would be replicated by Home Trophies (they may be called Accomplishments or something else when Home is released). However Home will not be finished in time for Civ Rev's release, and there's a chance that Trophies won't be supported for previously released PS3 games.

There isn't any official word from Sony when Home will be released. It will be a free download. They recently came out and said an Open Public Beta of Home will be available Fall 2008. (http://www.us.playstation.com/News/PressReleases/468)

I love my PS3 Uncharted is one of the most fun I have had playing a game in ages, but dang ANOTHER home delay. I don't want there closed beta expanded to include a "further number of registrants to check it out."

If you are already paying for Live! I'd say go with the 360 version, but if not I'd stick the PS3 version. Also from what I've heard from friends and seen myself, it seems that the average age group on 360 is younger, so take that as you will.

I have a PS3, so I would love to see you get the PS3 version so I can perhaps one day play you :cool:

Also, from what 2k Elizabeth has says the content and DLC should be the same for both consoles.

Even if i've a Live Gold subscription, i'm not a great multyplayer gamer, and i prefer the silence of the Sony console... :)

I'm 40 years old and I own and Xbox.
You are going to find jerks online no matter what system you have.
But you also find some great people.
I've got friends from playing on Live that enhance my gaming now as we are a tight group.

I saw a news report yesterday that GTA IV on PS3 was outselling the 360 version 3 to 1 in the EU/UK. If you're in that part of the world that might be something to consider, as the community for civ might be larger on PS3.

Lately I've been preferring the PS3 version. The PS3 version looks slightly better on my television. The colors are crisper and better defined, and I prefer the DualShock3 to the 360 controller.

On the other hand, the 360 version has achievements and Xbox Live, so when the game ships, that's the version I'll be taking home.

But really, they're functionally identical. We will be providing the exact same downloadable content on both platforms, and the demo will be identical on both platforms as well, so you can decide for yourself before buying.

I couldn't care less about GTA, I'm older afterall.
But I saw the reports too.
Maybe it will sell more on PS3, we'll see.
I just have a hard time believing Sony marketing.

And for me the 360 controller is so comfortable, I could never get into PS becuase I don't like the feel of their controller.

Honestly, I don't think it'll be that much of a problem.

I *hate* playing games like Halo/Gears of War on Xbox Live, but I play lots of Catan, Chessmaster, Carcassonne, etc. Those games have a similar audience to Civ, and you get a much less immature breed of gamer.

I'm loving Chessmaster, except when I loose, which is too often :D
I know I'm going to get my but kicked in Civ Rev, but its going to be fun.

I'm hoping real time RTS picks up too, I love BFMEII that's the best RTS right now on console imo.

I'm hoping Supreme Commander and Red Alert and Halo Wars along with Civ Rev are all going to be very fun games to play.

And I'm sure I will meet some great people in Civ Rev and get some great new people on my FL.

Well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out, that a game as big as GTA IV, even with it's "timed exclusive DLC" on 360 is being outsold 3 to 1 by the PS3 version, that might also mean that might happen with other multi platform titles, such as Civ: Rev. . Just maybe... lol

I know what reports are saying, but I don't see why the trend would change now. IGN boards are showing the 360 selling more on Amazon, and other online sites.

XBL is far and away the best online component for a next gen system, heads and tails above PSN. and, well, the wii isn't in the race at all, is it?

Yes. There is only a small segment of gamers willing to pay to use multiplayer imo. You really get the same personality types again and again and again with xbox live and it gets really old quick from my experience during the months I had it.

i've looked online at like at least 10 different pages, all saying that 360 is outselling ps3. In the U.S. its 2 to 1, and everywhere else its a slim margin. All of this information has come off websites such as videogamer.com, 1up.com, shacknews.com, etc.

I have nothing against PS3. I too have seen those reports. Though analysts also are also saying that everyone should wait for NPDs numbers before declaring which console is winning the GTAIV battle. MS has also reported that the first 24 hours of release saw 1 million players on Xbox Live playing GTA. With 10 million XBL subscribers, I'd say that's pretty good

Yeah Angus they will accept it back. I have had three friends have the same sort of issue and it took a while, but they all got newer 360s once it was determined that it was the RROD. No worries man, just call them up and make sure its not the power pack thats not plugged in correctly.

And the 360 isn't outselling the PS3 anywhere...they are selling identically around the world(except in Japan)...but even that is a win for Microsoft and a loss for Sony, after Sony held 2/3 of the entire market last time around.

Doesn't matter though, the only real difference is the types of games and the type of online possible. I vote 360 because it has better games(IMO), and more of them available...along with being cheaper and having a more robust online experience.

If you have both systems, get CivRev for the system you have the most friends available to play with.
