Hey guys, thanks! The problem turned a little worse. Seems they discovered some tears in my back muscles, a crushed disc and some damage to the hip that I thought was just a pain that would go away. Oh, and they discovered I broke my foot years ago but I didn't know it and it's now tearing up things. This and the diabetes and kidney stones are making the doctors act like they have armed guards stopping me from leaving the hospital. I'm sorry for the lack of writing lately, but the crushed disc has been making writing painful. I take pain meds, but everytime I do I forget all about the forium and play "where am I this time" instead. Sorry about that folks. I don't have a laptop pc, so I borrowed a nurses today to send this, and as soon as she gets out of the bed and dressed again I'd better give it back to her (hey, I'm sick, not dead). So I'd better make this quick..

That Artwork was great FrRapture. Sweet. Thanks.

Thanks again everyone. Don't worry too much about me. There is only one thing that really, really bothers me...

Wow!! Just kidney stones with nothing else sucks (I know as I had that before--worst pain you can imagine), but with all the other problems you have as well, I cannot imagine your situation. Try to keep your spirits up--even if we don't know you, we are all a kind of "family" here of sorts and we are thinking about you :)
(And those pain meds...that part, I'm jealous of you!!! Best day of my life!)

The nurse just woke me up to give me a sleeping pill, so I'm getting even by using her laptop while she's making rounds. I wonder what she's going to do when she gets those 300 vibrators I ordered for her on Ebay? (Note to readers: never put your credit card number on your computer..) Oh well, maybe she'll thank me some day..

What happened BioShock Freak and esipode? Well, the back tears are the result of a mine going off near me years ago (read my "Favorite Weapon' thread for details). Some shrapnel was lodged there, but for many years just seemed a minor pain, and lots of laughs when going thru the mental detectors at airports. Seems though that the shrapnel was moving all this time and doing damage. What pain I had I thought was from a bad back I've had for years.

The foot and hip damage came from jumping off a cliff while in South America. Some friends and I had stumbled across a large group of people growing the type of cocoa that doesn't go in your coffee cup with marshmallows, and they thought the fewer people who knew that, the better. My friend and I were fast runners, but had to do a Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid when we ran out of land. The Amazon was below, but believe me, from that height, it may as well been a dirt road. My friends arm and leg were broken, and I got a bad hip and I THOUGHT a bad twist of the foot. The so-called hospital we ended up at didn't catch the fact that my foot was actually broken, and I walked on it for years. Now a bone spur is causing trouble.

The kidney stones, disc problems and diabetes? Just bad breeding. Or maybe weird breeding. I've always wondered if my Mom mated with an alien 9 months before I was born. How else could you explain why my skin turns green when I'm cold, regular coffee make me sleepy, decaf makes me hyper, and now, despite the fact that I just swallowed a sleeping pill, I feel like I could write a hundred posts right now? Of course, I WILL admit the laptop has been trying to walk away four times now, so maybe the pill IS doing something...

Have to go; ether the elephants are stampeding, or the nurse has finished her rounds.
Thanks guys.

BioShock Freak
04-21-2008, 06:11 PM
Wow. Sorry to hear about all your problems. Similar happened to me about with the foot problem. When I was a kid, about 5 or 6, I used to climb a lot of trees, house roofs, any high place and jump off. Lol. Actually, I stopped doing that like last year. Lol. Not by choice though. Anyways...when I was a kid, I always knew how to land on my feet kinda the way those free runners land when they jump off buildings. (land and roll) Well, one time, I missed it and landed too hard on both my feet. Nothing bad happened, so I thought, so the years passed by and I always had ankle problems. The pain kinda went away until last year that I started working at a factory which required me to be on my feet for 12 hours a day. I'm thinking I might've either broken my ankle or fractured it because from time to time it still hurts. I shrug it off and ignore the pain and 90% of the time, I forget there's even something wrong with my foot. I don't have medical insurance so I can't go to the doctor and have x-rays. They're too expensive. Kidney stones, jeez, I've never had them and I hope I never do. Although I probably will because my family's got a history of kindney disease. My mother had them all the time since she was 17, and I KNOW it's not pretty at all. I really hope you get better soon.
About the nurse, I really do hope she enjoys those 300 vibrators or she'll make it hell for you. Lol. I never lend my laptop to ANYONE better yet have my credit card information saved onto it. You never know what will happen. LOL.

haha no sh-t? kudos to you sir.

Sorry. Sad to say that I never actually ordered anything on-line for her. I could have, since I DID use her computer without her knowing (a three year old could have opened her locker), and she DID stupidly have her credit card number on the laptop, but I controled myself. It was just too easy, and where's the fun in that? Actually, the next time she looks up her credit card number she's going to get a message with it that will start with: "Hey Dummy!!"
Sighhh. Sometimes, it's just no fun being a nice guy now...

To the readers:

I'm going to go under the knife in 2 days, so I'm going to try to write as much as I can before then. After that, I'm not sure. Look for my long posts starting in Zilla's "Cowards guide to Rapture", and I'll try to write something for my "Favorite weapon". Oh. And after way too long a time I'll write that post I promised in EU_DIG's "Three Doors and Dogfood' with my idea of what's with all those cats in odd places..
There. Now you all know where I'm going to write, so it's easier to avoid me. Yep, just too damn nice...

Got to run and scream in pain for a few hours. Thanks again!

Hmm. Well, I know you well enough now to know you're not a dummy, but I strongly suggest you put the number in such a way that no one would realize it's a credit card number, like putting in 50 useless numbers and a clue next to the numbers to tell only you which one is the right one. A friend of mine and I use historial dates with each other to give information when needed, since we're both history crazy, but even still we put "dummy" questions with the ones we send.
No, I'm afraid the nurse I'm talking about is a real dummy. She had a picture of her credit card as her BACKGROUND!!!! Sometimes, people just ask for it...

Thanks for the card Bioshock_fan. I like it.

I'm in a lot of pain now, but it's my own damn fault. I stayed up all night writing my answer to "three doors and dogfood" that I promised to write months ago, and boy, do I hurt. But a promise is a promise, and I always keep them. I'm that stupid. If you want to get real bored, you can read it. i call it "The answer to the problem of the cats" and it's actually two posts since I can never shut up. It's a possible answer to a question a lot of readers have asked, and kinda of a story too. I would say "Enjoy!" but let's not be silly..
I'm still going to try to write something for Zillas thread, but I warn you, don't pay attention to the screams. I can be very loud...

What do you MEAN I'm not annoying?!! You mean people hate me for something ELSE?!! Damn. There goes all my training..

I'm going into surgery in an hour, but I've been warned that after I come out, no matter how good it was, I won't be able to use my fingers and arms for at least 5 days (actually, the doctor said I WOULD be able to use them, but if I did so, there would be a great deal of screaming) so, I'm afraid I won't be able to write any answer back to any of you for a little while, even though I'll be able to read what you wrote. (Why, oh why, did I write that? I feel like the farmer that has just told the fox and the weasel hiding behind the henhouse that he would be gone for a few days!! Oh well, I always did enjoy train wreaks..

I've written 2 articles, one for Zilla's "The Cowards Guide to Rapture" about why rapture COULD HAVE been built in the 1940s, which will appear first, and a general answering of letters in my "What's your favorite weapon". I raced like crazy to write them in longhand, so they're not my best and I'm sorry about that. I'm also not the person putting them on the computer. My "niece" Julie has kindly and foolishly offered to do so, so if you have any questions, send them to her byway of messages or post to me.

And no, she won't tell you my real name. Part of her college "fun" (money used only for the important part of college, having fun), comes from the profits of my books, and I've warned her that if my name goes, her 12 concert tickets a year and her trips to Aspen and Miami go with it.

Well, have to go. This is going to be the first in couple of operations I'm going to have to have , so I'd better get used to it. But I DO wish Dr. S wouldn't smile like that..He reminds me of someone else..

Thanks again all..

"Will you PLEASE stop looking at me like that Doctor. No, I've never had any work done on my face. Why? Well, yeah, I admit it would be nice to get rid of that mole, but... Doctor? Doctor? Is there a reason you carry a butcher knife in your back pocket? Doctor? Why are you smiling? Doctor....?"

so besides all this messaging youre doing , hows your uncle recovering?

uncle is feeling well enough to be a pain. he's trying to write even though it hurts, and he's refusing to take half of the pain pills because he doesn't want to be sleepy. he's in a bad mood because he still has the kidney stones and they refuse to leave. the doctor has said that if they don't leave in a week they'll have to put a tube up and blast them apart. the operation for the shrapnel went well, and uncle should have less pain back there from now on, BUT doctor says that nothing can be done about the damage to the spinal cord. he's going to be in pain for the rest of his life with it and have to take pain pills every day. Thinking about that is driving him crazy. he hates taking meds.
he's been trying to write using a speech program called "naturally speaking' on my laptop, but it doesn't work well enough. it gets too many words wrong, or doesn't work at all sometimes. it just makes him mad all the time.

I'm pretending to be mad at him. He looked at my writings and said sorry, but my writing was bad. I had made some mistakes copying his notes, and he said that when I wrote to you all in posts I "sounded like a bad kung-fu movie" he wanted to know why, since I always get "a"s in English. I told him he didn't understand how young people write on the computer and we got mad at each other. We're like a real family! ha!

Ok, ok, you're right Uncle Gato. I looked at all the posts I sent, and I sound like Charlie Chan. I can't help it. I do that when I'm trying to finish something fast. that's just the way I write on the laptop. Is this better? (I'm writing this here because I know he's going to read this thread tonight with some one else tonight. he loves the thread Zilla, and it makes him smile. thank you. And thank you too all of you writing in. it's very sweet of you, and he loves to read what you write in. thank you. You all make the perfect get well card!

I wasn't the pointman. The fellow whose head went flying back pass me was the pointman. I was the second or third (I had gone up to the 2nd man because he was about to ask me if he could read one of my comic books which everyone wanted.) Actually, in the modern world, and as early as Nam, being the pointman can save your life, believe it or not. It was in Nam that mines started being made that wouldn't go off until the 3rd, or 4th person would step on it. That way you get more targets. Isn't it a sweet world?

It's about bloody time someone got that joke! I've been telling everyone I know here that you guys are smart as hell, yet no one has said a word about it for almost a year. I never knew if you guys knew it and thought it lame, or if it was too much for you. Now I can proudly say you guys thought it was lame in the first place... hey, wait a moment!!!!

I'll put something soon into CGTR, but I'll admit I was a little disappointed in the lack of reaction to the last ones. Sorry about that; I should have realized something that long would be boring. Yeah, it is... but when walking into an ambush that begins with gun fire, the Pointman was generally in great risk (and the 2-3 buddies that walked behind him). Sure, being a Pointman wasn't really a death warrant, but it was risky.

Horses were there a long time as far as I know. Was told the French brought them once, but I have a little trouble believing that. Traveled in a lot of Asia before Nam and saw a lot of horses. Besides, the mongols tried to take nam once, and they MUST have brought horses with them too. (Remind me later to tell you the story of why they failed. It's great!!)

Excellent point! (if you'll pardon the pun) But an ambush works best too if you have the target's back to you, which you would get by having the pointman walking pass you first, thus giving the target a false sense of safety. You ever wonder why we would be stupid enough to take point in the first place? Because most of us after a while realized that most of the shooting went for the middle, not the back or the front. The middle can't do what the front or back usually could: RUN-LIKE-HELL!! A small chance, true, but after awhile, you took anything you could get. Real combat rarely makes sense..
Ok, 101 before wounded, 3rd armored after and before I went back to the world. Now forgive me, Panek. I understand the need to know, and I thank you for remembering, but some wounds never close, and this one still hurts like hell. I'd rather drop the subject ok? Thanks Buddy.

I'm curious people: do you want to keep this thread on and just use it as a general meeting place, talking back and forth, and so on? I guess you could call it the "get well" chat room. I'm going to be ill for a very long time (although I am leaving the hospital tomorrow), and to be honest, it would be nice to have some place I can go on, just relax, and forget about the betrayal of my body. What do you think? If you agree with this, say so. It's up to Zilla of course, but I'd be curious to see what you and he say. Think of it as an act of mercy..

Speaking of which, as long as I'm speaking of mercy, would you all answer one question? What was the problem with those last three long posts? There is never any response to them, good or bad. Were they that lousy? Were they so boring you didn't bother to finish them? I really would like to know; you won't insult me by telling me they were lousy. I would really want to know one way or another. To me, your opinions count, even if I don't like them.

Take care all.

Four garbage bags by the door, waiting for three days to be dumped. Sink full of dishes that haven't been even looked at for the last two days; manuscripts, papers, pencils, and pens thrown throughout the room; carpets and furniture dusty with cat hair all over the place; newspapers, books, and magazines all over the floor. I never saw anything so beautiful in my life. I'm home..

I have a housekeeper, but I forgot to tell her to be here before I got home. Yes, I have family, but I do all my work and research in here, in this other place. This is my second home, and as much as I love my family, I love this home more. It's right next door, easy to get to unless I'm working on my books. Then, nobody can get in here. Some of my family doesn't even know the place exists, and I plan to keep it that way. They'll like the idea anyway.. I'm very very hard to get along with when I'm writing..

I'm still not writing as much as I should. The pain is still pretty bad; that's the reason I haven't written anything long for the forum lately Most of my writing is done by the voice program right now, but that's still hurts, because it still doesn't work well and I have to rewrite most of it. It's very depressing. In order not to get depressed, I'm just doing quick little hit and runs on posts all over. I hope you'll forgive me for doing so; frankly, I feel I'm being rude, but I will admit it's kind of fun. Still, I think I should apologize to all the people whose threads I have invaded and almost took over. Forgive me for that. I just need to do some smiling lately.

Some of you have said that you read everything I write. Those are the sweetest words I've ever heard in my life, and I think you. I also pity you. That means that you read my earlier stuff. And boy, am I ashamed of that. My first posts were filled with anger at 2K over some issues that are still a problem, and still make me feel angry, but more than that, sad. Still, I feel like I should apologize to some of the people at 2K. Some of them helped me greatly and I never said so or thanked them in those same posts. I do so now, and I apologize for taking so long.

(Actually, my anger may have cost me a lot. According to a friend of mine that helps to design things for the Sims games at EA tells me that someone at 2K would still like to put my body on the wall like Ryan did. My agent tells me that someone told her the same thing. I suppose writing stuff for 2K is now out of the question. Pity.)

To the people writing into this thread, let me tell you again how much your support means to me.. Sadly though, even though I've been writing for a long time, there's no words that I can find, that would be worth your gold.. All I can say, is a very, very, underrated "Thank you".

Well, got to go wash the cat. Take care.

Books and research. Also something that has no name. Sometimes a person or company will hire me to be a "Private Eye ' Historian"; like if you ever wondered if your grandfather was really guilty when they hanged him for playing bagpipes at 3:00 in the morning, and how long the party went on afterwards. Sometimes I get hired for reseach asked by studios to see if something was correct for the time. (Sadly, a lot of the studios don't listen all the time.) Been thinking about doing that for the games, but haven't done so yet. It's a werid balance, because most of the people who read my books don't know I do the other job, and I like it that way. Just like my real name never appears with the name I write with, and won't. I LOVE people talking about my books and not knowing I wrote it. It gives me a true honest answer about how good it is. Even good people usually lie to the author about how good and bad something is for their own good reasons, but they'll rarely lie to thier friends about it in a resturant or someplace like that where I have a chance to overhear them. (I had this the other day at the hospital. One of the nurses was telling her friend " Oh, I think he's great!! I read everything he writes!" The other nurse answered " I don't like him. His books bore me, and I thought that last one was silly." THAT nurse I asked for a bedpan. Sometimes secrets kept can be fun..)

Nowadays ANYONE can be a writer, (judging by the books out), but can you make a career out of it? Don't know. It's damn hard, and many, many fail. Sometimes it's just luck, but hard work helps to better the odds. Still..
But remember, if you fail, it doesn't mean you're not any good. What you sell depends on what people want, and as you can see by what's on tv, that can change in a New York Min. But go ahead and try: it's amazing sometimes how long a writer can be loved despite the talent (or lack of it).

But remember two things: People will tell you that with hard work, and if you believe in yourself (or your God), ANYTHING is possible. It's sweet, but it's Bulls**t. Sometimes you will fail, no matter how hard you try, or how much you believe. Like I say all the time, 'No matter how much you believe, and no matter how hard or fast you flap your arms, they still won't fly you to the Moon by lunchtime.." Sometimes you fail, no matter what. That's life and the Universe. As long as you tried your best, it doesn't matter what others think. They're the ones hurting themselves and others, wasting time and sometimes lives. Don't be like them. Earth has enough idiots.

And for number two, remember, it's great to get fame as a writer, but for the most part, the most famous are dead. Sorry, but it's true. Try for life first, then after you can pretend you've got that down pat, go for the fame that will please your great-great-grandchildren. But live first, be worshipped later..

Of course, anyone would be an ass to try something this hard wouldn't they? ( A fellow writer I used to know by the name of Mike Grell said it best "Writing is so easy.. All you have to do is put the paper in the typewriter, then stare at the blank white paper until blood appears on your forehead".) Why try for something that causes so much pain? Why try for something that may make you lose your money, your fanily, even your life? Why try for something that will give little reward much of the time? Why try for something that might make you a prisoner, or a social outcast? And why, oh why should we try for something that may not even be noticed until our bones have become dust?
I wish I knew. I really do. A person would have to be a total Jackass to do something that stupid...

And yet, all I can say is:

"HEE-HAW!!!"

Better, just tired of the sound of my own echo. Don't get me wrong, I love writing about myself, but even I can get bored with the subject.

Zilla, I'm beganing to think you're growing threads for a living. How many you got now?
Superjman, uh, I'll explain what I meant on "Death" I've been writing with meds again and that MAY have been a mistake (although rarely boring)

Hate drugs though. Used to love them until I woke up one day at 3:00 P.M. in Vegas in a high class hotel, money all over the floor (23,000 dollars) and I'm lying in a very large bed (under a mirror ceiling) totally nude with a car wheel in my arms. Taped to the wheel was a note that said : "Hey Sweetie, Anne, Baby, and I are heading back home. Last night was the best we ever had. We should have sold tickets. Come back home to see us again and I'll get Bebbie and Jill to join us. The flight back to England leaves at 1:00, so join us please baby if you can. Call us at home if you can. Love, Amy"

Ladies and Gentlemen, to this day I have no idea:
1) Where all the money came from. It didn't come from my bank, and so far no one's tried to kill me to get it back.

2) Who the hell Amy, Baby or Anne was or what we did, and what did the car tire have to do with it.

3) How the Hell did I end up in Las Vegas, when the last thing I remembered before then was being at a pot party in HONG KONG three days before. The tickets I found said I had come to L.V. from England, and I had come to England from Denmark, but I still don't remember any of that. It's all a mystery..

That's when I cut down on anything that takes my mind for a ride. If I'm going to have fun, I bloody well want to remember it.
And if I wake up and see that damn wheel again, I don't care how much it hurts, I'm throwing those meds out the window..

And if I wake up and see that damn wheel again, I don't care how much it hurts, I'm throwing those meds out the window..

haha oh sh-- ^^. and dont worry about the post on death's thread. my reply was an attempt at a joke aswell. joke for a joke? it seemed right.
