Mafia II release date

Mafia II, the sequel to the highly praised Mafia, it's going to be launched (very) late after the original game, more precisely over 6 years, so maybe for some of you doesn't matter anymore when the game it's going to be released, but because the game is so highly wanted by fans worldwide and because it's looks makes it even more desirable, I just thought to start this thread and to ask you guys help to store here all the info regarding the release date from different sites you've visited or magazines you've read!

- Officially it's said that the game will be released in the FY (Fiscal Year) 2009... which starts in 2008!!!
- On gamespot.com the release date specified for Mafia II is 31.12.2008!!! It seems more like a joke launch date because who the he** spents his new years eve launching a video game?!?!?!
- On Wikipedia.com it's said FY 2008/2009.

So it looks like almost everywhere 2008 it's taken in consideration! Knowing that Mafia came almost unoticed and as the surprise of the year (2002) I don't exclude at all the posibility that Mafia II might be released in 2008 and become the surprise of the year, again. I think we should, at least, know the year when the game it's going to be released. So, when do you think the game will be released, in 2008 or 2009? Don't forget to vote!;)

BTW, I believe very much in 2008! Of course, my vote went to 2008.

To be honest I have absolutely no idea. As far as the game looks it could be complete already. I'm very curious as to whether the features we've heard of (such as fat cops running slow, pedestrians buying clothes and food etc) are already implemented, or are just PLANNED. As a lot of people know running your mouth off about awesome game features, only to turn out they're not in the final game will just piss people off leading to everything from angry emails to death threats (Fable anyone?).

Personally, I'm slanted towards a late 2008 release or early 2009 if things are already implemented and it's just those final stages of level/mission/A.I./model tweaks etc I'm going with 2008 though. 6 years of development should be enough time (and let's hope it doesn't end up like STALKER *shudders* p.s. I loved Stalker anyway).

I think we will see it in 2009, originally there was talk about a 2008 release when the game was confirmed august last year but I doubt it will happen.
Anyway a few more months is no big deal for me, after having waited so many years I can hold on a little longer ;)

The 31.12.2008 release date on gamespot.com is just a common thing I think when a game doesn`t have a confirmed date .

It agree, game should not receive fate STALKER. I read that leaves in 2009, we will be hope that it not so.

I think it will be released in 2009 because it will surely be the best game of the year and 2K Czech with it want to stay on the top of the game list :) In 2008 it will be good for nothing :P But I voted for 2008

You see a few screen shots and at the moment just one trailer. This game is not complete yet and it won't be complete in 2008. You see some nice pictures but it's just a picture. Perhaps they fixing some cars, models, persons, buildings. Sounds have to be add, they have to test it. Ride through the map, what isn't small. Textures, codes, scripting and a lot more. Maybe they get problems with some company's later what have a delay in effect. 2009 is the year it will be released for sure! There are more trailers and screen shots on the way.

Wait patiently and they tell us soon the release date.

I know they have to market the game and all but it depends on the level\amount of info we get.

If we continue to get persistent info in the same volume like we have had in tha last weeks then I would in one way think it would be odd to have, lets say a mid 2009 release.

As I have said countless times before on many other forums, for once I would love to see alot of info on a game that comes out within the next 6-10 months and not 12-24 :p once the info starts to go public.

As much as it is enjoyable to get new info it must be broken down in a way that doesn`t reveal to much, and this is especially important with Mafia since it is a story heavy series.

if by some miracle it does come out in 2008 it wont be til very very late in the year like Nov/Dec.

sucks though cause im looking forward to MAFIA 2 more than GTA4 (which is pretty much already 'out' for XBox360)

and like i said before MAFIA (for PC) was (and probably still is) one of my all time favorite single player games and i still prefer that to any of the current GTA series games (not counting GTA4)

LOL, my guess is though (assuming it's 2009 like i think it will be) it will probably be in early half of it but im guessing probably not before Feb/March or so (im thinking March ish at earliest but probably not past late June) ... if it's Jan ill be suprized.

but hell, i dont blame you i want the game pretty bad to (im replaying MAFIA now on PC, once again for probably the 5th or 6th time ish lol)

Dunno, with so much info released all of a sudden I (suddenly) became unpatient! Anyway there is a difference: if it's launched in Nov, Dec 2008 it's like waiting around 6 months but if it's launched in spring, summer 2009 it's about 1 full year of waiting, so it's a BIG difference for ME, especially that now I'm not playing any game and that makes me even more unpatient.

I mean, yeah, Mafia II is gonna be the kick-ass game of the year (08 or 09?) but in case its gonan be released in 2009, there are still other games that are really worth taking a look at...

I get fed up with Amazon's beligerent cheek at giving out release dates. They claimed to have a release date for Mafia II two years ago long before the announcement at the Leipzig convention.. play.com have also said they have a release date.. but I take this with a pinch of salt and donot listen to speculation.

Yes all the "specific" dates we see on various sites are just placeholders until it gets officially confirmed.

The sites may hope to get a few extra pre-orders on having a "specific" date on the site couse it has a small psychological element to it....well for those who believe it that is, which I don`t.

Take 2 had published a financial report, in which Mafia 2 is included, for their fiskal 2009 year. So Mafia 2 will be released between 11/1/2008 and 10/31/2009.

It says 16.March.2009 as the release date of the game! Yeah, I know it's another site posting "another" date release BUT it might become true!!!
Just to point out that months before the GTA4 for PC release date was announced there was a site that posted that 2nd of December as release date. Remember, that site posted 2nd of December months before the initial release date for GTA4 PC was announced!!! So, who knows, maybe we already know the release date for Mafia II......
