The story in Mafia 2 revolves around Vitor Scaletta. Returned from the second world war (where he was badly hurt) and with lack of money, Vitor starts, together with his old friend and companion Jerry Barbaro, to commit various smaller burglaries and car thefts. It doesn´t take long before the thoughtful and carefully Vitor has been dragged in to more heavy stuff by his impulsive friend. Both of them gets involved in business concerning one of the mafia-families in the city.

I think it's been said that he was drafted into the military to escape jail time. With this said, I think he's just a small time crook trying to make ends meat the illegal way, and his friend who is more ambitious gets him stuck in some serious trouble. Not that he doesn't love the money and wealth that comes with it, but he probably would have liked to get rich on his own terms without devoting himself to a Mafia family.

I base that on absolutely nothing. Have a field day with it. :)
