View Full Version : Modding for MAFIA 2
Anyone knows if would be possible to create our own levels, buildings, houses, cars, etc. in Mafia 2?
Will we have a MOD Community support (with tutorials) similar what Crytek did with Crysis, when it created www.crymod.com?
Cheers!

Cheers!Far, far too early to tell, I think. It would be cool though to have some sort of map maker, a la CryEngine 2 Sandbox.
Also, while I think about it... downloadable content/content patches? (like new cars, weapons, missions etc) Would the developers support this? The worst feeling in a game is when you sit and watch the credits roll and know it's over. =( But why does it have to be?
None interview mentioned about if gamers will be able to create their own MODs.... Please, someone ask about that!
lol

I personally think that they will not "waste" their time into that, as there are other things that needs more focus. Besides, Mafia 1 didn't have any official tools aswell.

and no tools didn't stop some great mods for Mafia 1, dont think they've even said what engine the game uses yet, guess is not LS3D ;)

I think, it would be here, because Dan Vavra mentioned somewhere, that he is for that modifications and that some of them are really good. I think, that theyīll make any "back door" for mods. But I donīt expect any official tool, if this will be there, we have to make it unofficial
There will be something ... it may be unofficial if not provided officially but i
think there will be it all depends how much success and popularity Mafia 2
accomplishes ...

Don't worry, if the game has the PC as the mainplatform it can be modded!

Anyway there will be nothing to modding because the game will be perfect !
:)
I love you Illusion Softworks (I mean 2K Games Czech) and anyway I love 2K Games too, with their masterpiece BioShock, the best game after Mafia !
Nah seriously, personnally I don't think that we will be able to "modding" Mafia II because recent games use special files because of DirectX 9.0c Pixel Shader 3 and more that are very hard to decode even with a Hexadecimal Editor...

Oh come on man, this is not an "excuse" to not be MODDED... See CRYSIS and they have a great MOD support community - www.crymod.com
We need something like that too and this is not a matter of "hard to decode", sorry... Every single game can be modded (if the company who develops it wants).

If they make it moddable, it will live much longer (like half life -> counter strike) How cool it would be if someone made a multiplayer mod for it :D But personally I don't that making it moddable is high priority for the devs right now :|

That's exactly my thought :) making it moddable is NOT a high priority for the decs right now .. I mean, come on =P I usually don't mod any games until I've finnished it like 2 - 3 times first, and if I still want to play it, then I mod it as much as I can ;P like Mafia (first game) for example.. but I still think that mods and skins are just destryoing certain games sometimes, I want the original feeling, as the gamecompanys would like it to feel :) but still, Online mod would be soooo sweeeeeet! =)
Anyone has any news about MODDING for Mafia 2?

There's always a 1st time for everything...
Although I'm not a modder (at all), I really hope 2K will release some tools for Mafia II. This way they'll make life easier for modders, their work will be even better in quality aspects, plus there will be more mods available = more playability, longer life for the game, better sales! I really don't get it why devs don't release these tools, generally speaking!

Yeah, I know, but as I said, having the right tools modders will spent less time on their projects, then having the right tools they'll get the best thing possible.

Sounds good but really early to know, maybe after the first month of release we would know.
Well Dan's interview seemed to suggest modding would be plausible as others have said, however those of you saying that modding will be possible simply because it was possible in Mafia I, don't be fooled. The Illusion engine is completely different and we don't know anything about the structure of it. MassaSnygga's long gone from the Mafia community and my last contact with him indicated that he has no intention of spending time making an extractor for Mafia II. The old teams have disbanded now.
Everyone thought The Godfather would be moddable and it wasn't, and no-one managed to crack the files there. Even some of the MMC guys gave it a go and had no luck.

You're right.... but only partially! That's because there'll always be/appear a new generation of modders/fans, so I'm not that worried about those modders/fans that "retired". Of course, it's better to still have them around and working, especially for their experience, but it's them who decided to retire and as long as nobody pays them, what can we do?! I THANK them anyway for their great work!
I'm worried, and that's the part where you may be right (but I hope NOT), about not being able to modd the game at all if 2K doesn't offer the SDK for Mafia II! Also, most of the fansites of Mafia already closed for some time, but that doesn't mean there's not going to be another bunch of fansites for Mafia II!
Liz opened a sticky thread where she posts the links to the Mafia II fansites all over the world!
With this bunch of NEWS and REVIEWS, does anyone read anything about MOD Tools for the game?

no, but a number of sites have said the demonstration was of the 360 version so probably wouldn't have been mentioned...
Modding generally isn't mentioned until quite late, usually because the editor has to be "dumbed down" for lightweight modders.
Anyone has any news about MODDING? Did someone mention something in E3?
Nothing. We won't hear anything for months yet.

If theres going to be stuff added to the game id rather it be OFFICIAL DLC. If i cant get that il play the story again and again and again and again untill we see a Mafia3 trailer.

Well imagine an editor with the whole city ... it would be massive....cool though....
The engine would stream the city by subdividing it into small chunks and loading them as needed rather than loading the entire thing.
and Max"The Ripper": Mafia's only been going this long because of the mods.
ok guys thanks!
if 2k czech make tools apps for mod mafia2?:p

I'm sure later there will be mods, but I'm interested in the ORIGINAL.
If I would EVER use mods, I would only use those ones which didn't ruin the atmosphere.
But first I will try out all the endings ;)
