Hello,

Another question. I was wondering if there are any plans for the Free Ride and Free Ride Extreme mode in Mafia II? For they were fantastic in Mafia: The City of the Lost Heaven!

I am playing Extreme Ride in Mafia I now and it's really funny. But i guess, that developers make up some new in Mafia II.

Well.. doesn't really matter, Mafia is mainly about the storyline :D

Not really, I don`t even understand what do you mean?AI of racers?Or races?Because racers, as I understand is the guys who drive cars) I don`t think that in MAFIAII will be races.

Oh sorry I mean: Instead the free ride extreme as in Mafia1 could be in Mafia2 racing as in original plan for Mafia1. I am sorry, I do not know how to say it....

Both the free ride and the free ride extreme was ok in Mafia I think, but I became bored after a while.
I hope we see it again in the sequel but that it is made a bit more interesting this time.

I loved freeride extreme. I really hope they have one in Mafia II. Freeride extreme was just so much fun.

I wish they could have marked the map for the taxi missions also, it was too much to have to memorise the city. I would have loved to have been able to boot up just to be able to play as a taxidriver for an hour or so. Mixing up the routes etc. (one of the things that got a little tiresome with Mafia, after playing it a few times were the routes. The quickest being a wide u-turn left out of Saliery's parking lot and into and through the alley, straight out of the alley and accross the road on to and accross the pathed edge of the park before making a right turn into the tunnel. Then, if the car you were driving wasn't too fast it made sense to take the short cut through the alley on the left (to the left of the iron piller supporting the train tracks?) to get onto the bridge. Doing that for almost every mission got a little bit tiresome by the second and third playthroughs. Taking the long way around was just a pain in the butt because of that really annoying counterweight bridge which seemed to be set to trigger just as you got to it at average speed (and if you tried to beat the bridge the cops would almost always catch you, so it just wasn't worth the chance)

I really really wish I still had my copy of Mafia (I don't know what happened to it). I can still remember that route. It was a bit annoying, but I got over it after a while. In fact, in faster cars I went around the block.

Free ride was a great chance to experience the game in a new way, put on top of that a sort of comical and insane view of missions and free ride and you have a perfect combo. It was a really great feature that I loved doing. A longer, perhaps more intense or varied range of Freeride Extreme missions (as well as some serious ones for Freeride ;)) would be an awesome way to top the game off and extend gameplay and replayability just that little bit longer.

free ride extreme was weird but funny... i loved the hotrods and the huge jump over the river! i always tried to trash the cars to odd shapes (http://screenshot.xfire.com/screenshot/natural/df7c3ef4da3b64d38ceca36c3e547a4cd9666f4d.png) :D

but i think free ride extreme lacked a way to repair your car... that's what annoyed me.

That bothered me too. I'd save before driving each one back and re-start if I hit anything (they didn't drive too well either, which was annoying, especially with the mantas).

It would have been cool if it let you drive the cab to earn money to get the cars repaired.

Free ride and Free ride extreme was a such a great thing.Ill pray to be in Mafia 2 to:D I play it for a lot of hours...For me,free ride extreme it was like another game.Nothing to complain about it.It was in a way like the missions from driver2 and maybe almost long like the entire game but here it was like a bonus:p The entire mafia 1 it was 'serious' ,now in extreme u can do all the crazy things.Awesome!

I would love if both features returned, after i had finished mafia 1 i always did free ride. And then just cruised to the city, i loved the way how everything looked....

Yes i like free ride too. Free ride extreme was something different. I had no fun in extreme. I couldn't repeair the car, less guns. It was boring.

Now in Mafia 2 you need to buy your house and save your profile. Maybe it's similar to GTA IV. What i try to say is. Maybe there won't be any free ride options no more. You play the missions in the city and can drive anywhere you want and play the missions when ever you want.

Is what i think, i'm not sure. We'll see when the game is in the stores.

I just hope that it's good enough :o

Having officially swarn off of desktop gaming, if it's good I'm going to take a weeks holiday to play it (and then sell it all).

With regards how much Mafia II is going to be like Mafia...is there going to be any connection whatsoever? (apart from the subject matter).

Looking at the screenshots I thought I saw Yellow Pete, but then he would have had to have lost an eye and had his arm grow back.

Just wondering. Mafia was such a great game. Is Mafia II going to be anything like it, or are they just hedging their bets by using the existing property for a 'vintage' appeal and to get the existant fans on board?

I personally think it will be alot like the first one in regards to the atmosphere and feeling. I also think this might top the first game.
For me in relation to the information released so far it might be one of the BIG ONES in terms of all the games I have played.
I have high hopes for this one and I don`t think I will be disapointed to be honest.

As for getting the existant fans on board, I think we`ve already borded the ship a long time ago and sailed, just hope alot more players follow this time.

Being a multiplatform title from release I think this will do better then Mafia and that it will hopefully also get new players to get the first game as well.

I hope it's going to be brilliant, but I'm not totally sold on sandbox, basically because it kind of 'mutes' the range of emotional weight you can add to the given scenarios. For me a lot of the fun of Mafia was the roleplay and the distinct sense of purpose in each of the missions. e.g. when driving that weird murder car to dump near the lighthouse, or driving Paulie around to collect the protection money. Driving up to that garage out of town was a really atmospheric moment (it didn't matter to me that it happened in a cutscene because of the level of immersion already achieved).

I'm hoping it's going to be cool, I just thinking it could end up really bad. As long as they have an accurate driving model (equivalent realism to Mafia's in terms of its contemporaries) I think I'll be happy, but I think that statement might have a 'famous last words' type ring to it.

I really hope it doesn't have a GTA style "do missions anytime you want while exploring the city" free roam to it.You can apparently take jobs from different families. So it seems it might be faction-based to a certain extent.

I was hoping for that too, but having SUCH a well-built city with such an atmosferic enviroment... I guess that won't be such a bad idea now.. I could feel I'm in the main character's skin in the singleplayer story-line mode, without having to click on the freeride option.. :)
Besides.. It can't be completely GTA-like, you saw Vavra's statement: he'll make this game as close as reality as possible, so it's not going to be like a comic book (aka. GTA).

In conclusion I've changed my mind.. a free-roam would be a nice idea to observe the surroundings and admire Empire City as i travel within the city :)
