I'd love to hear what specific books, films and paintings inspired the art team to create Rapture. Or was it more of a real world influence- taken from photography expeditions to New York, etc?

Thanks

The pictures look a lot to be inspired somewhat of La Cité des enfants perdus or as it is known in the US "The City of Lost Children".

Am i right or is my mind playing tricks on me.

Right! That was what I was reminded on, too!

And maybe a little little bit of Blade Runner, although its scifi maybe?

Has anyone seen that film, "Brazil"? If memory serves me right I think that movie had an art deco/ steam punk look to it. With computers and robots that looked like they were made out of a mishmash of mechanical items, which reminds me of the sentry bots in Bioshock. It is probably just a coincidence of course, but who knows.

They mentioned art deco was a major inspiration. They're trying to recapture that art style of the period.

i have seen the film... it's a bureaucratic dystopia by terry gilliam (did the "comics" in monty pithon's flying circus). i don't think they were inspired by that movie, but... who knows ;)
