View Full Version : Please tell me this isn't true!...........

.......from Civ Rev.com's 'Civilization Q&A Round One' section.

Will there be different scaleable options for game length, world size, and difficulty like in Civ 4? Can we pick how many Civs we compete against and who they are?

To create the game balance that Sid is famous for, the number of Civs in any given game is fixed, and they will always be randomly chosen. That said, there will also be scenarios available that will provide you with entirely new experiences.

I'm sorry, there really is no easy way to ask this.......but what are you guys thinking? Is it not a universally acknowledged truth, that one of the very best features of the Civ series is the ability to customize the game to suit ones needs, at any given time? Being pressed for time for example, I might typically choose to play a twenty or thirty minute duel game, with the odds stacked greatly in my own favour. For example, Caesar vs Ghandi, with yours truly playing as Caesar!

Isn't omitting even such a basic level of customization a classic case of 'spoiling the ship for an happeth of tar?'. Or did you simply not anticipate that a great many fans of the PC series, might also want to buy Civ Rev? Please tell me that the possibility of a patch to correct the problem at a later date, isn't entirely off the cards! :)

i don't think you need to despair about this option.

a single player game does have random opponents, but i don't believe you'll feel outbalanced. each civilization is customized in such a way they are very unique to play (you can learn more about them on the civilization section of the site, and i'll have an in depth feature for each leader in the coming weeks.)

you CAN still play head-to-head, that's actually a multiplayer mode! and there will be scenarios, too, as said.

there are many ways to play the game.

Thanks for the reply Elizabeth. I really do appreciate that you guys are happy to take time out from your busy work schedule in order to keep us informed on Civ Rev's progress.

One thing that I can say with certainty, is that nothing short of the apocalypse will prevent me from buying Civ Rev on release day. I guess I just love the Civ series too much to let the new game slip by!

Was the first question in the FAQ ever answered?

"Will there be different scaleable options for game length, world size, and difficulty like in Civ 4?"

I have seen video evidence that multiple difficulty levels might be available. All Civilization games to date have had scalable game lengths and world sizes when a player began a new game on a randomized world.

Will Civilization Revolution have the options to set game lengths and/or world sizes?

Will Civilization Revolution have the options to customize the type of randomized world? E.G. Archipelligo vs. Pangea... or Arid vs. Rainy... or Rock vs. Flat... or High sea level vs. Low sea level... etc.

Will Civilization Revolution even have randomized worlds!?!

I would sure hope the answer is yes to most of these questions or this game is gonna be in trouble.

First its no mouse/keyboard support, then its no customizing the number of civs in your game? If its no to most of the above then all I have to say is wow, good luck 2K selling this game.

I can't swear to the other parts of your question, but back in November, I played on "King" (the "everything is even" level), and DanQ of Apolyton played on Warlord.

So, yes, there are like 5 or 6 levels you can play on.

Thanks for replying, Padma! :) The video I was referring to was from DanQ's post on Apolyton.

Quick question for you.... What was your favorite "wow" moment when seeing that demo back in November?

there are several different difficulty levels (i can only beat 2nd hardest, Deity is still beyond me!)

the map is randomized and there are not varying map sizes, but there are different difficulties and they do get very challenging. as i said, i've been playing since october and still get trounced on Deity.

Well, there was a *lot* of "WOW" that day. ;)

But probably the best was when Sid and Barry handed us the controllers, and said we'd be the first non-Firaxis/2K employees to get to actually play the game! :D

Alas, we do not have custom game settings. But we do have scenarios, which are intended to provide some of the same functionality (when you see them you'll know what I mean).

Keep in mind that CivRev does not have the same kind of A.I. personalities as Civ IV. In CivRev, you never know what the A.I. is gonna do. Gandhi could be a total psychopath...it's like Civ IV with random personalities on all the time.

That's refreshing news. One of my (very few) gripes with CivIV was that the leaders were too predictable. I would choose to play against some of the more peaceful ones or warlike ones depending on how I wanted to win the game.

If there is no pre-set leader AI (e.g. Ghandi not always peaceful, Ghengis not always warlike), then I don't seem to mind the fact that we can't select who to play against.

Will a single player game be against 4 AI controlled leaders? Or 5?

Yup I agree, its more interesting to have totally random behaviours. As for the question it has been answered here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=269062

So its 4 AIs.

Thanks for that, Jason.

I'm finally starting to realise that my doubts about not being able to pick the AI opponents, were totally groundless. I have played Civ IV on the odd occasion with randomized AI personalities, and there can be no denying that it does add its own unique flavour to the game!

It seems that the more I hear about Civ Rev, the more I want it! Any chance of a demo, before I finish Lost Odyssey? :D

Hey, anything's possible. Lost Odyssey is an enormous game and we will have a demo out before the game ships. :)

Fantastic news, and exactly what I was hoping to hear!

Thanks Jason. You are now, officially, my hero for life! :D
