in my spare time i do alot of stuff on photoshop, making sigs, wallpapers etc and i run my own graphics forum

heres some Bioshock graphics stuff ive made, relatively recently

Manipulation:

Did this last week i think, had the idea to try a manipulation using some of the plasmids. I just took a photo of my arm in a Bioshock like position and used a screenshot as the background and manipulated the Incinerate plasmid. I used different textures for the burned effect on my arm and tried to make it as much like it as i could. Its not great so i might give it another try sometime. I also added the health bars and stuff to make it look more like the game

I tried Electro Bolt too but it came out really badly. I am going to re-try that and also will try Winter Blast and Insect Swarm too, hopefully i can make them look alright :-)

That manipulation was my 2nd ever manip. 1st one was another attempt at Incinerate but wasnt that good so i re-did it and that one is my second

once i have done the other plasmid manipulations i'll post them up here (if they're any good ;) )

how can you 'see the layers'? I made all of them from scratch. I render the main pics, make the whole backgrounds and everything else to make up the sigs so yeah i made them...the 1st sig i didnt do a huge amount to as i just used a stock but still worked on it

that was only my 2nd manip ive ever made so im not great at it, need to practice more with it

yeah i couldnt make it very 'game-like' in appearance, cant get it to fit in right properly with the background and make it look like the game. It is a manipulation though so maybe it shouldnt look too much like the game anyway, kinda like a 'real' version of the plasmid :)

This one took quite a bit of work, took a bit of time to do everything, getting the textures and stuff but it was very fun to do :D never sure how many bees to add, didnt want to go overboard with too many

maybe needs a little more work, might re-post a re-make of it if i edit it slightly


next up - Electro Bolt :-) this one i know is pretty hard as ive attempted it before and it just looked really bad. Will need to find a way of doing it right

if anyone wanted anything done i could do it (as long as the request makes sense and i know how to do it - ive had some weird requests i didnt even understand what they were wanting lol) I make signatures, avatars (not made many avatars but could do them), tutorials - i'll be making a big tutorial on all my plasmids once im done, logos, stuff like that really. As long as i can do it i will happily make it, i'll always try my best with them but they wont always be good

i only did it 800X600 but i'll try changing it to your res and see if it looks ok...hopefully it will but if it doesnt i have the PSD so could try re-doing it

ok here's what i got for Electro Bolt. This one is definately gonna take more work. I can make the lightning alright but placing it properly to make it look right is the hardest part (its certainly better than my last attempt though lol) but here is my attempt as it stands for now

not legally anyway, is a $500 programme. Although theres something kinda similar you can get for free, its called GIMP if you do a search for it you could get that. I've never tried it myself but others have said its pretty good. Doesnt have as much stuff as Photoshop but since its free thats to be expected :)

I really like what you did there, Atlas. The elements that make it look like a watercolor are fantastic. I prefer the first version with the brighter colors.

The pic looks so amazing that it makes the black bar and plain BioShock logo at the bottom look jarring. I don't have any good suggestions, but that would be the one weak point for me.

Thanks PlasmidJunkie, for hosting them i use FileAve.com. Is a great host site, gives you 50MB of upload space and doesnt resize anything at all unlike photobucket which resizes things over a certain limit

Out of Curiousity what effects did you use in photoshop, I use photoshop and im usually pretty good (those last few i pumped out due to creative block, Tryin to jog the juice, if ya know waht i mean :)(their not my best btw)) Some of those effects you have used im not familiar with however.

Well mainly its alot of smudging combined with applied image layers and erasing parts out. I use the 'Displace' filter alot too, can produce some nice effects depending on what PSD you chose to use (a bit of it you can see near the bottom left of that last one i posted) Then its just brushing (had two line brushes at the top left and right there but as it saved so dark you cant really see it now) and brush some bits for lighting and mess with the blending options till it looks good, mainly around the focal. Also a few gradient maps until it looks good set to whatever blending option looks the best. Not really an effect but i find it helps to brush a few black bits near the focal then gaussian blur it and erase a bit if necessary to help add depth. Using the Burn tool can also help with this. I find the best way to finish is to apply the image on a new layer then use the Sharpen filter to bring out the detail, if over sharp just erase over any sharp areas

There is of course many different effects and filters you can experiment with. Alot of which i've never actually used before


Hope some of that helps you in some way. I've been working with photoshop for years now, messing about really lol. Started to improve after joining a graphics forum and am now involved with a few as well as running my own one too. Just helped to read and try out Tutorials to try and learn new things ;)

Really just through graphics forums, ones others have made and i have made some myself for the sites too. Theres a link to my graphics forum in my profile, have some tutorials on there and i have affiliates at the bottom of my forum linking to other graphic forums as well you could have a look at if you wanted. If i cant find what im looking for there or am looking for something in particular, sometimes a google search can get some good results too. I'd recommend forums though as you can get help and advice from others and the person who made the tutorial and get some tips too ;)

I thought for a change from doing wallpapers, I'd try out re-making my plasmid manipulations again. This time without the screenshot backgrounds, just real life photo ones

Winter Blast:
(this one didnt work as i'd hoped. Used a tutorial on how to make ice to make this snowflake http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y300/kawasaki5/snowflake.png which is very easy to make but it doesnt look as good on my arm using the same technique..)

They still need work to make them look more realistic but its the best i can get them for now, need to practice and try more stuff out for them

Could've fooled me with the incinerate one, looks perfectly real. The others look slightly touched up and the bee one looks a bit animated/drawn in some parts; but other than that they are all great. The Winter Blast and Incinerate ones are both awesome, the Insect swarm one is pretty cool too:D !

not legally anyway, is a $500 programme. Although theres something kinda similar you can get for free, its called GIMP if you do a search for it you could get that. I've never tried it myself but others have said its pretty good. Doesnt have as much stuff as Photoshop but since its free thats to be expected :)

Just wondering, what version are you using? I was gonna buy the $100 dollar one. It has more than enough feature that I can understand.

BTW great work! The Insect Swarm one made me want to puke. It was oh so detailed.

Thanks, was going for that kind of effect with it ;) I did over sharpen it though in areas..

Im using Photoshop CS1. Had it for about 3-4 years, got it from my dad, but it does fine. The newer versions of course have more features but this one is still good, cause i know photoshop is an expensive programme..


Edit: I just re-did Winter Blast slightly, the icicles didnt look right before so i tried making them myself using the same method:

It sort of looks like water was dripping down the arm and then froze, rather than the arm being totally frosted itself. Hey, don't sweat it if you are doing you're best. It is in the eye of the beholder, so if you like the way it turned out, keep it there. Don't worry about what you can't do. You are doing AMAZING already.:D

I want to have a go sometime at maybe trying to photoshop a drawing. Since i have no idea how to make drawings or anything like that on photoshop i want to see if it would work if i drew it first then like fill it in on photoshop. Like Fisherman's avatar and the designs for the t-shirt contest for example, i dont know how to make stuff like that unless its a different program you use. Going to see how a drawing works out anyway, probably not very good but worth a try
