Getting System Shock 2 to work

Many fans of SS2 are unable to play the game on modern Windows (XP and Vista). The game crashes randomly, and compatibility modes don't work. There's a whole thread devoted to this issue here:

Since some of SS2's programmers work at 2K, I was hoping that any of them could provide some insight as to why the game fails on modern platforms; provide something that can allow fan modders to fix the game so that it runs - maybe even the original source code. Chey? Fermier? Are you out there? We so love this game yet we cannot play it anymore!

I think that you're asking at the wrong door here. If I'm not mistaken, EA holds the SS2 IP, so they're the only ones who could help you. Even if someone from the ex-LGS had the source, they wouldn't be able to give you anything for legal reasons. It would just mean shooting themselves (and 2K/Take 2) in the foot.
I doubt EA cares about SS2 though, but it's worth a try.
