Ok, so the name basically says it all. I need to know how to fry a laptops hardrive/motherboard/cd-drive... Here is why...

My sister has a laptop she bought from futureshop 2.5 years ago. It has been sent out 3 times for a major repair, ie. Hardrive, motherboard, etc... The monitor now has been screwed up, she took it to futureshop, expecting a new computer (Policy- If the computer has had more than 3 major repairs, you get a brand new computer of equal original value) only to find that they dont have documentation for one of the times it has been sent out, which was in august 05...

Anyways, she feels screwed, and i feel like i should help... Does Anyone know how i can fry her motherboard or hardrive so that she can get a new computer?

Keep in mind that it cant seem intentional, ie. not smashing it against the ground :P

Try flashing the BIOS and turn it off before it completes, or flash it with a BIOS version for a different manufacturers laptop.

Wear fuzzy socks and shuffle your feet around on the carpet. Walk up to the motherboard and touch it. The static charge you release should be enough to fry the board.

She should have the documentation for the second occasion. Worse comes to worse you could always take it to small claims. Similar thing happened to me when I got a computer at CompUSA. They even promised to lend me a comp if mine ever needed to go into the shop. It was a lie obviously, but they did repair under the warranty, and eventually replaced my motherboard with a new faster chipset, solely so they would not have to give me a new comp. It was a pain, but I did not feel entirely ripped off, they must have put nearly 2000 dollars worth of work and parts into repairing it each time. XD
