I bought bioshock with high expectations and so far it won't work. Firstly the cursor won't come up. When i download the beta patch (which changes the shaders) the cursor comes up, but it fails to get past the loading screen (ie it freezes, the picture and caption freezes but the music continues.) With out the shaders patch, upon starting the game the plane cutscene works well, but when it comes to when i'm under water, there are black boxes and the water lookes weird. Upon reserfacing from the water, i can see fire in the backround, and tiny black boxes everywere. At some places when i look around the screen goes black, and sometimes there's like some sort of crack in the hud or something where i can only see half the screen.

I've got Windows XP with a radeon 9500 video card.

The shaders patch dosen't seem to work so any help whatsoever?

I admit i made a stupid mistake of not downloading the demo.

the card you need depends on your system config you dont need the latest just one the same as or higher than the X1300 radeon. but we are up to the 2 series HD cards

would x1300 suffice?

Its min spec but it will run the game. Be aware though if you do get a higher card the X1550 is not a supported card

Also does your system meet the rest of the spec?

go into the start menu of windows, then the run option type in there dxdiag and you will get all your specs from there.

I don't have a 2gig memory on there..

I downloaded a x1300 driver but that didn't do anything, so does that mean i have to get a x1300 card?

Ye you need the card then the driver once you get it install how much RAM and what is your processor speed from the dxdiag

I've decided to screw radeon, it caused nothing but problems for me, and i'm going for a Nvida Geforce 7900 Card instead. Is that a good idea? It seemed what Bioshock reccomended so it should be alright

If you would like to try running the game on your current setup, you might consider one of the community-produced Shader Model 2.0 fixes available on the ShaderShock Project Forums (http://www.paolofranchini.com/shshock/index.php).

The ram is 1536mb and an Intel Pentium 4 CPU with 3.20 GHz

Your Ram and processor is fine to run the game.

Oh then i guess its the graphics card. I should be getting a Nivida Geforce 7900 some time soon. I guess you can close the thread then.
