Just tried reinstalling Bioshock again. On fresh install of Vista 32bit, all drivers are updated and still the game crashes at the Bioshock splash screen with Vista saying"Bioshock has stopped working"! Thats after 3 attempts to activate the game.
WELL?????

Have you tried to install the latest DirectX update? This can be done from the following link.

Installed the suggested drivers and still the same thing. Just about at wits end and ready to start asking for a refund.

i have the same issues , with a rig very similar to yours . ive tried these tips as suggested :

1. created a shortcut on destop of bioshock.exe and on the shortcut properties put in -dx9 at the end of the string ....... this got me past the loading screen but onto other issues such as random crashing and crashing when you try to hack or action something.

2.tried turning off high detail shaders and post processing ... still crashed when it felt like it .

3. tried lowering the resolution to 1024 x 768 , this let me play the game flawlessly for 3 hours with only one crash ... then when i tried to resume the game today .... 30 secs in .... " bioshock has stopped working " etc ,etc ... evrytime i try the same result

ive no idea what the problem is but it doesnt seem to like vista much , it seem to me that the crashes on my computer usually happen when the screen is changing from rendered ingame to still , such as going to a vending screen or hack , or taking a photo and the photo being displayed , this seems to be like a game fault , but until its patched i suggest you try these staps and maybe you will have more luck than me

What the game crashes, what error if any do you get?

Vista comes up with a window "Bioshock has stopped working" and then it exits. This is on a freash install of Vista, no AV programs loaded. Installed the game then tried it and the same error comes up.

Although it is a large download the DirectX SDK update has been known to fix issues like this in the past.

The link for this is below. Please try downloading and installing it.

Check your RAM: Drop to 2gb of ram, try the game, then swap to the other 2gb and try again.

Also if anything is overclocked video card/processor, anything undo it. Bioshock seems to me to be picky with that.

Got it working after almost a month. Turns out that GOM media player was the cause of the whole problem.
Had seen a post that mentioned the player, so I thought i would try it. Removed the player, started the game and It ran without a hitch. Never even thought about it. Just after I installed GOM is when the game stopped working.
YEAH.......
