lBioshock bought via steam

Hi, this is the error message i am getting, i have spend on and off 3 days looking for answers @ both valve and the forums.

Can some one please post the link to solution as iam a married man with children and a full time job, not a technical pc expert, i have followed the limited advice posted by both company's about avg and fire walls. and removed both with reinstall

This is not a flame but why isnt there a simple link too all the solutions for securom. Not having your customers trawl through mostly meaning rants on a forum or limited advice not suited for casual pc users.
I hope all your technical problems are solved soon as the 1 time i had it work it was one of the best games ive played.

Kind regards

Dave

Few questions.

1. What are your system specs?

2. When exactly did you purchase from STEAM?

3. Did you preload?

Possible solution:

Right click on the game in the steam game launcher, go to properties and try verifying the game cache.

I'm guessing that this is a SecuROM error message, but just to be sure, please take the following steps:

1. locate the bioshock.exe file, the default install location on an English system is "C:\Program Files\2K Games\BioShock\Builds\Release"
2. Right Click on it's icon and select Launch Analysis from the menu
3. You will be prompted to save a file to your c:\ drive called analysislog.sr0, click OK to do this.
4. email the file "c:\analysislog.sr0" to support@securom.com and wait for a reply.

Digging into your specific error message and making the assumption that this is generated by SecuROM, it does look like the bioshock.exe file is corrupt in some manner. Did you get any warnings from AVG at all? I would still make sure that your AVG virus definitions are up to date anyway.

It might also be worth clearing your temp files and temporary internet files for your default broswer and Internet Explorer if this is not your default browser. you can then uninstall BioShock, reboot your machine, try another install. (I know this seems to be a stock response, but after making sure that your caches are clear and AVG is up to date, it still might help get you a clean install).

That's irrelevant. Anyways...

As mentioned, it's a SecuROM error message, and from what I was able to pull out of a Google search, it can sometimes be caused when drive emulation programs like Daemon Tools and CD/DVD burning software are installed. You may want to either uninstall or mask these programs, or at least make sure that they aren't running. The data could also be corrupt, so a reinstall may be required.

I just love it when a third party program that is difficult to get rid of renders a game I've paid for unusable when it determines that perfectly legal software installed on my machine is unacceptable.

Or not.

Don't you have a billy goat to eat?

Defining trolling as 'pointing out that game-breaking 'security' errors made without a customer's consent on their own personal system not involving the game but rather one third party program disliking a totally separate third party program as unacceptable' is a new one to me.

But sure. You got me! I must be an angst ridden teenager with too much time, right?

No, but you've been nothing but a dick since you started posting. ;)

Anyways, I think we're thru here. Buh-bye! :D

SOMETIMES?!?!?!?! ive never had a single securerom game that didnt ***** and moan at me because i run daemon tools. the only way to stop it from doing this is to actually remove any and all traces of these programs from your registry and system. i think that some might consider this an invasion of privacy.

I find it amusing that the 'fan-boys' here are allowed to post insults without moderation, let alone conflating 'nothing but a dick' with 'posting sincere criticism'. Must be a new requirement for any 'game for wind0z' that the adolescent muppets aren't driven off.

This type of 'error message' is illegal, fyi - its already been ruled on: it also doesn't help that securom has registry access and won't allow the game to run without daemon tools being totally purged. Daemon tools isn't illegal - nor should securom have any say in how a computer is set up, other than to protect the software it is bundled with. Oh. And if you're running daemon tools with a BioShock ISO, chances are you've already patched the crack onto it thus removing securoms defences already.

That's the totally insane part of this 'security feature' - the cheaters have disabled it, and legal customers are getting harmed by it.

Anyhow, shoo, I know what arguing on the intarweb is good for.

I've got Daemon Tools 4.09 with a legit copy of Bioshock and it works fine, so I doubt DT is causing problems, unless it's an earlier version.

I'm amused that the probable solution to this is:

Patch Daemon tools to the newest version.

Ironic.

Thank you for those taking the time to help for the bio shock answer. I did not have any deamon tools loaded on my pc. The program causing the securom error was celceo http://www.celceo.com/downloads The virtualisation program must have stopped the securom from properly updating on the server causing the error.

Steam + 2K Gave no real answers than a simple try this 1 page each for support/ thats terrible customer support. The customer (forum members) should not be expected to find answers for a product. As i said a link to (specific errors+ fixes + work arounds) should be posted rather than trawling through 100's of posts with only a few real answers by decent people the rest rants /flames and just rude kids.

Its a dam shame really ive completed Bioshock @ med Quicker than it took me too get it working. Ive not played a game this good since half life first appeared many moons ago.

Again thanks for any help given and good luck in finding your answers
