I live in Moscow and bought Bioshock in NYC. when i tried to install the game i got a messege- error missing file in cab2 or somthing along those lines....
Tried 4 times to no avail and decided that the suface of the Dvd was dirty or smthn... was rewarded with a couple ugly scratches dirtyness and general scratched surface. Now I wonder is this your quality at it's best... Tried using a soft cloth didin work. Really pissed. I can't return or change the retail. Can't play the 60$ game either. Need advice and directions to get past this... mishap. Tried to punch in the serial through the steam activation window didin work. Guess that way is not possible... Anyways help would be much apreciated!
Yours truly- Me from Moscow

Tbh, it sounds to me like you shouldn't have damaged your disc.
Better luck next time?

Problem is that I opened the game in Moscow so must be that disc might have been damaged before I bought it. So I need help not opinions:(

Okay if the disk was damaged before you purchased the game, then take it back and demand a replacement copy of the game. Take your receipt as you will likely need this to show you purchased the product.
If however the disk was damaged after you purchased it, then you are in a more difficult position. However before we jump to conclusions with the disk, lets be 100% sure.
Can you copy the files from the DVD and onto your hard drive to make sure that the disk your using is in good condition. Here is how to do this test :
1. Reboot your computer.
2. Save a flat copy of the DVD-ROM to your computer's hard disk. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Start Windows Explorer. To do this, right-click Start and then click Explore on the shortcut menu.
b. Create a new folder at the root of a hard disk volume, and then name it "Fred" (for example, C:\Fred).
c. Browse to the drive that contains the DVD-ROM, and then copy the entire contents of the DVD-ROM into the C:\Fred folder. To do this, follow these steps:
1. In Windows Explorer, click the DVD-ROM icon containing the DVD
2. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
3. Paste all the files into the new folder. To do this, drag the selected items on the right side of the Explorer window into the C:\Fred folder on the left.
Did the files copy over correctly ?
If they didnt then this suggests the disk is damaged, check the disk for any marks or scratches on the bottom of the disk. Perhaps give it a clean with a soft and then try and install the game again.

Yes i fully read your message, however the language used in your reply does not allow me to understand the problem fully. We need to be 100% sure that the problem is with the data on the disk. Perhaps this is a language barrier as english does not appear to be your native language.
So to confirm, if you copy the data from the disk to the hard drive, then an error message appears? What is this error message, please copy and paste it.
Have you tried this disk on another machine (Friend / Family / School / College etc). This would be a very good way of proving the disk is at fault.
As for trading the retail serial for a steam activation code, I do not have any information if this is possible or not.

Right okay, can you try the disk inside another machine and see if the same problem happens?

Righto my good tech. My grammatical skills are quite lacking. but I still manage fairly in conversation. Anyway I tried using a friends computer and thing's were actually going great till the last few seconds. The data error message popped up again and my hopes fell. Also tried the Paste and copy again and again the same problem.
ps. would you prefer Russian as a alternative language? :D

Sounds like the disk is at fault. I really think the only solution is to return the game back to the shop and get it replaced. If the shop cannot do this then we will have to see if we can replace the game from the UK office as we do not have an Russian office.
There may also be a charge for replacement. Can you tell me if you have contacted the shop. Perhaps give them a phone call and see if they are willing to replace this game.

Hmm... can I get a tel. number please. I'll place a call tommorow and see if they are willing. But before i do that there may be an alternative....
1. Can I use a friends disk if I find one or for that matter any Bioshock DvD?
2. If I find a DvD can it be burned?
3. Last but not least I can resort to buy Moscows own special pirated DvD for a measly sum of money and use my serial code instead of a cracked game or even dl through torrent and use serial code..... sorry if this may seem a little offensive but I would rather do this than phone UK and wait for a reply.

Had the same problem. I think it may be done to this poxy copy protection they use. Either remove Daemon or anything else you have installed or try YASU etc to block the securom protection. My disc looked lightly scratched also but I guess it was down to dodgy software. Saying that the whole quality of the game and the service 2K have provided is 'A1 ****e' so it may well be a scratched disk due to poor manufacturing standards.

To those of you gamers have problem concerned with installing like mine:
1. Get a Bioshock from a friend.
2. Make an iso on you computer ( nero, cd writer and so on will help you with this)
3. get Daemon tools ( free software, just google it)
4. mount the iso through Daemon and install using the iso and your faulty Bioshock DvD must be in the drive too!
5. finish install.
6. unmount iso and turn Daemon off.
7. play to your hearts content!
cheers mates:D
