View Full Version : Why isn't there any AA ? (anti aliasing)

So I've got Vista, and an 8800gts 320mb. Resolution at 1680 x 1050 and settings jacked up to high on all three bars.
So I've been playing, just got to neptune's bounty, and the horribly jaggy edges I'm seeing is REALLY annoying. It's really making a great game not look all that great.
Is there a patch, or just some way to make the edges smooth, because I have found no way to turn up AA...

Try using the display settings on the nvidia display settings you can customise display settings eg AA and AF for each .exe

How do I find the display settings for nvidia?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I honestly don't know how to do this.

In Vista you cant use AA and DX10 PERIOD.
In Windows Vista you will need to go to the \Program Files\2K Games\BioShock\Builds\Release directory and rename the BioShock.exe to R6Vegas_Game.exe. Then right-click on your BioShock launch icon, select Properties and in the Target box add -dx9 one space after the end of the line and click OK. It should look something like this:
"E:\Program Files\2K Games\BioShock\Builds\Release\R6Vegas_Game.exe" -dx9

For some reason I don't have a desktop icon of bioshock, I usually go to computer and click the drive, how do I get my launcher on the desktop?

I would rather have DX10 water and smoke than AA

Bah, I give up... totally retarded..
I'll just play with jaggies I guess.
Hello Veronin.
I'm not sure if you have already tried this. If not open your Nvidia Control Panel and click that blue text link 'Take me there' as shown in your screenshot.
Now im not sure if your Control panel is different to mine, but you should be able to click the drop down menu box next to 'Antialiasing - Setting' and force it to which ever type you like.
Hopefully that works for you.

Thank you Syco. I have both XP and Vista and an 8800 so i'm testing which looks better DX10 or AA in DX9.

Force the game to play in dx9 and then use nHancer. not 100% sore if it works in vista, but works just fine for me in XP,
Read CyberKing's instructions in this thread,
http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8317&page=2&highlight=nhancer
And be sure to enable Multisampling AA, the other ones dont work afaik.

After spending hours trying to enable AA in BioShock (DX9/XP), I finally got 8XCSAA working (via nHancer). There is still quite a bit of aliasing at times for some reason or another, and (as we all know) we miss out on the subtle-but-groovy DX10 effects. After all was said and done, I would advise playing the game straight out of the box in DX10 and not messing with forced AA - the resulting image quality is not worth the frustration. Even a graphics whor-, um, guy like me got over the jaggies after a just few minutes in Rapture. Fantastic game, 2K.
