I just realized that I haven't played Civ 5 since 1 month. I am really disappointed with the game. The lack of foreign advisor (or effective foreign advisor) makes the game completly random. I have no clue of the effect of the decision I make. I thought the game would have been great. New features were awesome. I just hope that an expension will make the game better. Until then, I feel like I have throwned money out the window since I have played about 6 hours total since I bought the game on release date.

I understand your sentiment, I'm in a similar situation, I love some of the new features but there are some areas I feel are lacking.
I'm optimistic that patches and/or DLC will improve things. Fingers crossed! ;)

If posting useless spam so that you can have yet another show of depression oriented solidarity doesn't qualify you for a sarcastic remark, I'm not sure what does.

You are very rude, I seen several of your comments since I bought the game. Either you are very young or u need sharp up.

Agreed, it's not working anymore.

A game is like a book but with a little longer life span. Books are only worth a single read. The best games like Civ V will probably fade after a few months.
All sorts of activities compete for our time each day. The newest gets the nod.
For me Civ V is still a once per week activity. But it used to be a daily activity. However, its already paid for its price for me since I'm over 100 hours now and still playing it.
I'm glad Civ V allowed me to discover Steam since the latter has new games being introduced all the time. One may yet top Civ V.

Wait... there's any use for advisors other than clicking them away?
Well, and probably turning them off, but that's only fun once :(

Since my version of this thread just got locked, I think it is incumbent on me to add here that I, as well, have not played Civilization V for a while. I think the constant crashing at the later stages finally wore me down, and I have not had any motivation to start a new game for over two weeks. I finally decided to remove it from my computer. This is (was) the first piece of software, of any kind, that I could not run on my computer.

To be honest, I didn't find any use for advisors in previous iterations of Civilization, either - except for the humor factor, in Civ II. They were funny to watch and hear.

Loved the Civ 2 advisors! Especially when they all started arguing. Never got tired of Elvis. That was an instance of fmv actually adding to a game rather than just dull cutscenes.
I'm interested to see what difference the patches have made since I played last (been a few weeks), between work and college I have little time but that was never a detterent where Civ was involved :D
Wait times between turns were horrendous I found, even on a 4ghz I7 I was grabbing the manual to pass the time.

"I disagree Sir!" hahahah, good times :) Yes, those did indeed add to the game. BTW, my favorite was the scientific advisor, with Elvis being a close second.

The wait were long enough for me to actually enjoy the book. The opposite can be said about the game. And yes, after a while the game started crashing, for me, and more novel reading followed :D

I haven't played in over a month either. This game is the biggest letdown I've ever purchased. That goes all the way back to the Atari 2600.

You guys should, seriously, try Civ4 again. I'm not trolling you.
You will be amazed at the level of professionalism, depth, and challenge. I did this and I can't stop playing Civ4! :p

I remember this exchange (kinda):
military advisor: Would you defend our cities with haystacks noble leader? BUILD CITY WALLS!
Trade Advisor: Would that we could wall up your gaping mouth platehead!
Yep, that game rocked, good times indeed! :D

If you play Modern Era America versus Arabia, you get a WW III simulation with nukes, radiation and large pitched battles. I know I've repeated this scenario a lot but try the starting specifications:
Human = America (216 points)
AI = Arabia (216 points)
No City States or Barbarians
Duel Map Size and Random Map Type
Immortal Difficulty, Standard Pace (500 Turns), Modern Era
Random Personalities
Victory Conditions: Time or Domination
Turn 325 - 1905 AD
Declare war on first contact with AI and never make peace.
After you try this one see if you still want to uninstall it.

Played for a week and haven't touched it since, we shall see if a patch can actually finish this FING game. Too bad you cant return digital data or I swear to god it would have been back in the store faster than you can say "failure".

OMG if I have to see this scenario one more time im gonna poke my eyes out. Seriously? we get it, you like to set up the same situation everytime so you can garuntee yourself a win, while dropping nukes on arabs, we understand, no one needs to hear it anymore

I think its been a month for me too since i can't load saves. Sad. I was going to put off getting Black Ops because I figured Civ V and Fallout would hold me off for a while after the release date. But tomorrow I'm gonna preorder Black ops. Well, at least my friends will be pleasantly surprised.

I too have stopped playing for maybe a month now. The game just kept crashing on a regular basis on a quite decent machine - Q6600, 8GB ram, SDD, Ati HD 5870, Windows 7 64bit.
Very disappointed with the initial release of Civ 5. Not sure when they will have patches out to fix the crashing issue. But by then, Civ 5 is probably history (ironically!).
Looks like this will be the last Civ game I will get. I have played the series since the original Civ back over 14 years ago.

Hey every1! Whats up?
Well, i seen a few notions, around the forums, on how the game seems lucking....
To post those points, in my opinion would be repetative. I do consider my self, somewhat of a gamer, there are few games i havent played. I expected so much more from this game. Maybe thats the problem? i mean, Civ4 stands out for me, like a classic. Much the same way, as Arcanum, Diablo2, Mass Effect 1&2, Morrowind, CS Source, Kotor, Battlefield, Baldurs Gate 2, Caesar 3, Sims &Sim City 3, Spore, Total War series, Fallout 3, X3 Reunion&TC, Heroes 3, and others, to name but a few. I guess i really expected Civ 5 to carry on and become a classic much like its predecessor.
The game in it self, is not a bad one. Sure, there are some bugs, but that will be fixed in time.... The game it self, the gameplay, it falls short of expectations, set so high, by such a good, and in every respect, a classic game Civ 4 BTS was.
Ultimately, i was dissapointed, in Civ 5 ability to deliver, this "WOW, wickeD! " feeling. In saying so, i also speak for the 2 other die hard gamers, i happen to know. Thus, i know its not just me....
I do hope, the developers attend to all the various bugs with all possible haste. Hopefully, that will salvage some of the negative residue left by this relise. I wish em luck!
Sincerely wish u all the best regards, your customer, Ross.

Good list of games, except spore. Man that made me a sad panda.
I agree with you though. I also find myself not playing civ5 anymore. i pretty much come and check forums to see if there is a new patch out, if there is ill play and see if anythings improved. Im playing pokemon roms now cause thats more fun than civ5 :/ and some sc2 of course.

I agree. I am bored with the game and have stopped playing too. I do check the forums for future patches too. I went back to playing Dragon Age and Fallout 3. I love the Civ games, but this one lacks something that I just can't place my finger on. It is so irritating. I guess I will have to go back to Civ IV for a while and wait to see what happens to this one.
