Where are my planes?

Hi all,

I have based about 20 bombers in a city, using (F)ortify. There is no icon or any apparent way to retrieve these. Would somebody mind sharing how to get them again?

Is the little number way above the city gone? Are they listed on the Army List (I finally had to use that to find my exploring Caravels and Frigates when it was Destroyer time).
